You all made me cry. I particularly identified with David Sam who was probably a skeptic right up until he hear the notes of his work being performed--and that little smile of being pleased pin-pointed the moment he was no longer a skeptic. You go you guys!
American Composers Forum and the First Nations Composer Initiativewere the recipient of the 2006 Joyce Foundation Award for Music. Chickasaw Classical Composer, Jerod Impichaachaaha' Tate was commissioned to conduct music composition classes with Minneapolis area American Indian high school students from South High School's All Nations Program and from the Four Directions Charter School.
I am so proud of our young people for taking a risk and creating their own music. The pride and smiles on their faces are priceless! Miigwech to all those who supported them.
