I'm running an athlon ii x4 3.0ghz with 4gb of ram, and i have vista ultimate 64 bit installed. What's more is that in a virtual machine with 2 cores and 2gb of ram, i have vista ultimate 32 bit installed. And you'll never guess, but inside that virtual machine i have another virtual machine with 1 core and 1gb of ram and vista ultimate 32 bit installed. Needless to say: Athlons and AMD in general are severely underrated.
@ojmar1 Sir, that was a very uneducated and narrow minded troll comment. The point i'm trying to make it that windows vista is probably the most resource intensive desktop operating system ever released to this date, and the humble athlon is capable of running it inception style, vista inside vista, inside vista. The other point i'm making is that it isn't as bad or resource intensive as trolls like to thin it is. It's actually a great OS and i have never administered oral sex on another man.
@psychoclown420 I was only joking, I'm sorry. I was just going with the general view that vista is rubbish but I don't know because I've never had it. I should think before I post eh lol
@ojmar1 it's cool brah, most people go with that general notion, and therefore the consensus is that it's a terrible OS, when it's actually pretty good. These complaints originated from people upgrading their XP machines back in 06 or 07 that only had maybe 256mb of ram, and it wouldn't install, or they had 512mb of ram and single core cpus and outdated gpus, and it ran terribly. same with laptops. Now, 4 years and 2 service packs later, it's as good as windows 7 in my opinion.
I have a k6-III+ running at 600mhz, 100mhz bus, with 256mb sdram, Aladdin V chipset, but hdd performance will never be great since these things only have ata 33 support. A fast scsi card+hdd would probably be the best solution.
You might want to try add 1gb of sdram and a sata hard drive, and maybe a 2.0Pixel shader card. Any other config than that never mind. By the way, forget running any flash based site on this cpu, like for example, youtube :)
@rick62008 AMD processors from the k6 (or any socket 7 (super 7) processor) generation do not support SSE technology which Adobe flash relies on for hardware acceleration therefore you will get framed videos at best
@nklapproth Yes, although i heard Adobe Flash will support hardware acceleration through the gpu. That would be from geforce 8\9 above i think, so if you can get a pci version of a weak geforce 8 or 9, you might get somewhere when it comes to youtube or other flash video based sites.

Hook up an SSD to help with the swapping and program access.
I bet it would be reasonably useful at that point.

THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE!
how you make this?
which graphics card you have?
shackphp 4 months ago
@shackphp Why do you think it is impossible? The graphic card is a geforce 3 ti200 128mb at base clock, it doesn't even support aero glass.

I can not imagine using amd k-6 with win7
is suicide (just run win xp and this crashes time to time) ;)

@shackphp This was just for testing purposes. And the performance turned out to be quite interesting!

i have a question:
with a pentium 3 703 mhz and 512 ram windows xp runs just as I do that?

I have an old K3-3D laptop, would try this but the 4GB drive and 2MB integrated graphics wouldn't go down too well...

@rick62008 motherboards that take sdram and AMD K5/K6/K6-II/K6-III dont have SATA lol.
there are some IDE 5400rpm drives out there. I ran Windows 7 on a 4200rpm laptop drive and it worked fine. (1.6Ghz M Sempron 2800+ 1GB DDR400)
