Fact: unfair prop comparison. ANY engine will bog if it has too much pitch in the prop! Gas engines only make higher HP in the higher RPM rev range so therefore put less pitch so the engine can spool up easier and quicker, and try again fellas… i mean idiots.

evinrude all the way our buddy has exact same boat as us with a yamaha 150 and we have an evinrude 140 our top speed is 43 his is 36 we have a prop designed for the hole shot not for speed go figure yamaha sucks

Yamaha outboards are very reliable ,must say Evinrude have got some good points with this super efficient engine its light powerfull & got got loads of torque

I have lost all respect for Evinrude. Why are you testing a 2 stroke with a 4 stroke? Yamaha sells 100 outboard to E-Tec 1. Do you make a 4 stroke to test against the Yamaha? Why don't you test the Yamaha 2 stroke? Yamaha owns the market and the Canada can't stand it. All the ROTAX motors suck in reliability. I owned 3 Sea-doo and they all suck. I'm on a Honda now and love it.

Not enough info: Were they propped the same? If the Yamaha was propped for speed and the Evenrude for low end torque, then it's not fair. They should have also included a top speed test to make it fair.

Diferent steps and diameters of propellers give power or top speed. A smaller engine with the right propeller can win both. This is was useless spec, they could have compared top speeds. What a waist for a stupid experiment.

To ensure fair testing???? 4 Stroke vs 2 stroke? We can get a little more complicated and throw in the variable of RPM's in that tug of war. What are the limits on the RPM's during the tug of war between the two motors? We all know that 2 strokes have higher torque at lower RPM's. If the limit was at 2000 RPM during the tug of war....unfortunately the etec will win hands down. I used to love OMC... but lost a lot of my respect in recent years.
I still run an OMC 225 and have an LS1 4 stroke in my car. I still prefer the carburetored Gen One Small Block 350 for torque. The OMC 235 Crossflow I had years ago runs rings oiver the Loop V's for torque. Yet to convincve to a modern outboard. 2 or 4 stroke.

This test was pretty much stupid, not only because the driver of the Yamaha engine had to jump out from the boat and as some people have allready written: V6 2-stroke vs in-line 4 4-stroke. And yeah it's an American Evinrude which is American, what do you expect of this test?
@keegan198.................although the ETEC is a V6, the dispacement is only 2592cc compared to the yamaha inline four of 2670cc..............the four is actually a larger engine based on displacement.
@keegan198....yea, it seems that the V-config would def help on the torque side. They seems to both be great motors. However, on Yamaha's behalf, Evinrude is comparing apples to oranges........2 two strokes would have made for an interesting comparison. Most people realize the power difference between the two and four. I guess its just a matter of preference!
This is a foolish trail, the two stroke of equal horse power will always beat a 4 stroke in this type of pull competition. The end result had nothing to do with the brand of motors used, but the fact that the 2 stroke motors make there torque in a very differant location on the power band. If they really had faith in their motor, they would have compared apples to apples, 2-stroke against 2-stroke. The comparison with a 4 stroke is meaningless
There are going buy engines sold in the US and Canada. The E-Tec is really the only 2stroke on the market above 40HP. so they had to compare to someone.

that wasn't fair. the yamaha is a 4 stroke, 4 strokes have more parts so of courser there is ore wait the cams of a 4 stroke add the wait. also 2 strokes do everything in 1 revolution, 4 strokes do i n 4 revolutions. the etec is my favorite engine but that just wasnt fair.

This test was pretty much stupid, not only because the driver of the Yamaha engine had to jump out from the boat and as some people have allready written: V6 2-stroke vs in-line 4 4-stroke. And yeah it's an American Evinrude which is American, what do you expect of this test?

just one thing, that yamaha is not a v6, it is an in-line 4 cylinder.

@keegan198.................although the ETEC is a V6, the dispacement is only 2592cc compared to the yamaha inline four of 2670cc..............the four is actually a larger engine based on displacement.

@keegan198....yea, it seems that the V-config would def help on the torque side. They seems to both be great motors. However, on Yamaha's behalf, Evinrude is comparing apples to oranges........2 two strokes would have made for an interesting comparison. Most people realize the power difference between the two and four. I guess its just a matter of preference!

This is a foolish trail, the two stroke of equal horse power will always beat a 4 stroke in this type of pull competition. The end result had nothing to do with the brand of motors used, but the fact that the 2 stroke motors make there torque in a very differant location on the power band. If they really had faith in their motor, they would have compared apples to apples, 2-stroke against 2-stroke. The comparison with a 4 stroke is meaningless

There are going buy engines sold in the US and Canada. The E-Tec is really the only 2stroke on the market above 40HP. so they had to compare to someone.
