Yeah I think you are very fluently to speak in Chinese! Yeah you ask about which are the best Chinese book to read, I think it depends want kind the books you like to read, for example about history, science, novel. But person I recommend to 射雕英雄传
Give comic books a try. I find they are more fun and give you a little more context from the pics. Plus its all dialogue so it can teach you a little more colloquial language. Thats what i generally use for my Chinese reading practise aside from blogs n stuff. Just a suggestion :) 小新 is a popular one in Taiwan that i know of and friends recommended to me, but theres 1000's from Japan thatve been translated in all sorts of generes, romance / drama / action etc
I don't think Harry Potter in Chinese is a good choice if you want to learn real Chinese, just like I won't read Hong Lo Meng in English if I want to study real English. If you want to give native Chinese a "Shock", Hong Lou Meng is not enough, you gota read those really "ancient" Chinese. If you can use those text in a "really Chinese" tone in a proper situation, you'll SHOCK those native speaks and earn their respect quickly, but of course , it's not easy
I saw your video clips accidentally, your Chinese is awesome and I can see your ambition of learning Chinese, very impressive.
we call video clips "视频". anyway, Im a native Chinese speaker and studying in Sydney at the moment. I rarely read books(what I read are textbooks, sigh), so I can't help with that. But I'm very happy to make friend with you and I want to improve my English, what is this called, language exchange, hehe.
I think some people say 小电影 refer to porn movie. but it is not common saying in the whole china. you can just call the clips on youtube 视频. hope this will help.
Nat how long have you studied Chinese and would you give any tips to someone learning an asian language (I'm learning Korean... I know its very dif from Chinese as its non tonel (sp?) I hope you know what I mean :)
Your Chinese is good, I understood all your videos so far (minus the subtitles) which made me feel better about my Chinese. I think if you live in China on a more permanent basis, your Chinese will be very fluent.
for popular chinese books, you can google dangdang and you check that website and you get all information you need about chinese books, that's where we check when we wanna buy a book.
not a book, but a very popular love story that was based on a myth. it's called Madam White Snake, the 1993 production, I purchased the series for $90 (EXPENSIVE I KNOW!!!), but I remember watching that series as a kid when I was about 7-8 years old, and I accidentally ran into some clips of the video on youtube, thus the urge to purchase the series on DVD
so if that peaks your interest, i definitely recommend checking it out :D
Thank you so much for the suggestion! I will look for it and maybe (just...maybe...) someone is trying to sell it on Ebay, brand new, unopened and pristine conditions for only $1.00 :o)
hahah you're welcome for the subtitles! it's so hard to get them in there. I'm working on bucking up my subtitle workshop software so I can do actual, more professional ones.
I've studied since Sept 2005. It's been a long ride, but SO worth it :)
(i actually put english subtitles to it so you can understand what i'm saying). hahaha
i wanted a challenge. and I couldn't learn romance languages (french, spanish, romanian, italian, etc) and i didnt think i could learn it. I wanted to test myself actually and ended up falling in love with it in the end!

Nice to know you~
