politics here? one of the great group harmony songs ''earth angel'' from 54-55.but politics here? Joseph Mccarthy was a great american who tried to stop communism in the 50's and Ronald Reagan was the greatest american who won the cold war years later.i'll take the 50's music any day over today's garbage they call music.every person i have ever met who grew up in the 50's say it was the best of times.i wasn't there but i believe it!
I was definately born in the wrong time...i hate viryually everything about modern society which isgoing to heck in a hand basket...the music especially was so much better in the 50's and 60's as opposed to the rap crap of today and no talent morons who sing about nothing but rape and sex....minus the lack of technology, life would have been so much better back in the 1950's...americas Golden Age.
@JRDC9301 except for McCarthyism, institutionalized misogyny and racism, the Cold War, no internet, no portable radio or music player, smallpox was still around, genophobia...things were not really good in the 50's, which is why the 60's were the way they were: kids were growing up and weren't gonna live in the fake 50's.
I would like to live in the 50s im only 21 but the 50s were a time of great music, amazing cars and nice looking clothes. I love hearing/seeing pictures my grandpa & grandma show me (they were born late 50s raised in the 60s) if only I could go back in time to see the things they seen it would be wonderful 3
i honestly could not for the life of me why, but this has to be my favorite song of all times. beings how i was born in the 80's ( odd yes i agree ) it just makes me overwhelmed with many emotions all at once .
It's funny because everyone's raving on about how this music is so much better than today's, yet you all seem to have no idea that this music was created with even less care and effort than pop music of today. This is a standard doowop chord progression, I VI IV V, or G, Em, C, D. All of the music made in the time of the 50's was just churned out with formula's. Rock and Roll? 12 bar blues, I for 4 bars, IV for 2, I for 2, V for 1, IV for 1, I for 1 and V for the last one. Damn character limit.
@highestsettings Not to say I don't like this music, I do, but stop pretending it's much better than the music of today, because at least there is some originality in today's music and it's so much more diverse than it was in the 50's.
@highestsettings There is no originality in today's music. All it is is three or four words, and then all there is is a couple chords if that. Then with rap, all it is is "I wanna fuck that bitch". The fifties music is actually heart-felt, the lyrics mean something, and there is actually a melody.
Also, the fifties were plenty diverse. There was doo-wop, the beginning of rock and roll, crooners, jazz, blues and country. Today there's pop, country, rap and metal. Fifties are much better.
@rduquett What are you talking about? 3 or 4 words? you're an idiot I've never heard a song with 3 or 4 words. Ever. a couple of chords? That's what the majority of 50's music is, except maybe jazz. Also, rap isn't all 'I wanna fuck that bitch' just the popular stuff, underground hip hop is much better lyrically because they usually have something to say. Now, you say 50's lyrics were heartfelt but all it was, was 'I love you', they were all saying the same thing, with different words.
@rduquett I really hate the bloody character limit, anyway. There are so many different genre's it's unreal. Pop, Rock, House, Dubstep, Techno, Heavy metal, Hip Hope, Indie Rock, Punk, Hardcore, Grunge and Hip Hop, to name just a few. Then there's also all the genres that existed in the past, they still exist, I saw a band playing rockabilly music in a pub, it was awesome. There's still scenes and niche's for this sort of music to exist and all the others that have existed.
@highestsettings there is no originality at all! alot of the popular songs today were named after older ones because they think people will forget that the name was used
i am 12. i am english. im from lincolnshire. i live amongst chavs. i am not a chav. i would much rather listen to this, the four seasons etc than listen to..dizzy rascal or whatever...
Heard that the Temptations did this better, so I listened to their version and found out that was wrong. The Penguins' original version is so much better than the Temptations that there's no comparison. This version shows that these guys just got better with age.
@cruxton31 You are so lucky! It must have been so nice. The music is great! The way the people use to dress was amazing...it was a whole different world.
@A1Miscellaneous Wow really? Another one. NO ONE is talking about that!! I am talking about women dressing like ladys and not skanky! I am talking about MUSIC being about love and peace and not rapping about how they wanna screw everyone!!! I am talking about how beautiful the cars were and not made like POS like today! So next time before you comment...read it first!
@whole27 WOW. Racist really? You are the ignorant one. I was talking about the music and the way people dressed! . Don't start with the racist crap. I didn't even say ANYTHING about that stuff. Why don't you read before you talk. k THANKS
@MrsVadala87 yes but by saying you would love to live in the 50's not only includes the music and dress style but the racism and segregation, OBVIOUSLY! So if you lived back then, that would also be a big part of the culture....you can't have one without the other so it is ignorant to say you want to live in the 50's for crying out loud.
@MrsVadala87 You never respond to my point of the racism and segregation being present in the 50's...what am i not getting.....are you saying there was no racism and segregation in the 50's??
All you have to say is that you love the music and dress style of the 50's but when you say you want to live in the 50's...that's a whole other implication. It doesn't make any sense to want to live in the 50's just for the music and dress style!?
@whole27 Wow. All I am saying is to be living in the 50's was a nice time, with the music how it was and the way people dressed. No one is talking about what you are talking about! No one is saying about being racist. If I wanted to be racist I would have said something but i'm not, so really who is the racist one here. I would like to live in the 50's....ME. Not you so keep your opinions to yourself and don't put words in my mouth about being racists. Your comments are worth nomore of my time
@MrsVadala87 u never respond to my point...yes i know you want to live in the 50's but how is the music and dress style alone worth living in a time of significant Racism and Segregation!???
You are not only racist but selfish for thinking and wanting that and not thinking about the dark skinned people and minorities who had it tough back then!
When I hear this music it brings back great memories, and anyone who dislikes this song was just not fortunate to be born in this era. For me, these were the best yrs. Today it is soooo different. Thank You for a great song George
why does everyone bitch about wanting to be in the 50's. if you like these songs then help keep this era alive. even in 2011! just cause most teenagers in 2011 like drake, lil wayne, whiz kalifa, .. whatever, doesnt mean oldies and doo-wop have died out. we keep it alive in this new era!
@abcdefgh1234534 The thing is if you create a Wikipedia account, for some reason it gives you the right to edit articles about anyone.....I looked up Otis Williams of the Temptations and they said one of his nicknames was "Big Daddy"????????LMAO!
