what people need to realize is that conservatives and liberals need each other. if it wasnt for liberals abmerica would not have grown and changed for the better. and if it wasnt for the conservatives keeping the liberals grounded we would not have had the muscle we needed in times of war
@Mikeamericanidiot Also, i believe conservatives have done an important part in keeping the capitalist values of the United States safe from progressivism.
Cronkite was a liberal douchebag but he was still a far more objective journalist than exists in liberal press corps these days....they are so extremely biased to the left that they don't even realize that they have destroyed their own future in their careers.
Why does everyone keep saying that Nixon looks worse (physically, I mean) in the televised debates than Kennedy does? I think it's the other way around...Kennedy looks really old.
Both Nixon and Reagan were great Presidents. I sincerely wish we had them back rather than this total all out fraud we have in there now. We have become a lazy disease in this country dependent on big government. Like Mike Savage says "Liberalism is a mental disorder." Both Nixon and Reagan would turn around in their graves seeing America today. Go Tea Party !!
@Chris6134 conservatism is a cancer that has been killing country's and humanity since its inception progressivism is the only way can save america we have to expand health care free education all the way through university regulate companies so that they don't abuse people we have to become the great society just like JFK and LBJ and wanted.
@Chris6134 you just showed that you tea-partier's are just a bunch of dumb ignorant racist fools. Just so you know i am a true native of america unlike you but you will never catch me sayings something as stupid as go back to your European country because I'm not like you.
@JAGM94 doesn't matter ! Nixon wasn't perfect - but try to compare that to this bitch from hell we have in the Whitehouse now - a total communist bastard who hates America. I loved Nixon and Reagan !
This country from 1776.Mongols ruled US .. .Of course US never ever have any goverment. . .all those people just likes the monkeys for a show . . . . .That is the reason only President George W Bush had eaducation to the top. .the rest all Fake President .. school some finish Hight School. .Reagan very low. but the lowest is Obama .
I only wish that my generation, the young generation, would pay more attention to politics. It seems like 50 years ago, politicians appealed to a smarter and a more politically conscious public.
JFK was not wasted during his Presidency. I was around during that time and the person below was not. He functioned very well even with all of his health problems.

"Declassified papers report that John Kennedy was taking eight different medications a day. He was so wasted, his Secret Service code name was Ted Kennedy."
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
i dont do drugs, us true conservatives dont do that kind of stuff, now if you truly listen to the debate your self instead of listening to your lib hippy friends, you would know Nixon kicked Kennedys ass!
I dont have any "lib hippy friends" you dumbfuck, Kennedy absolutely blew Nixon out of the water in this clip, and confronted his lies. Nixon was a notoriously dishonest person, willing to do anything to win, and this clip shows this perfectly. Just watch Nixon's expression from 9:15 to 9:24; any idiot could tell (that includes conservative ideologues like you) that Nixon got smashed.
From CIA declassified documents, America under the Kennedy administration orchestrated a military coup to overthrow and murder President Diem of South Vietnam government, who strongly opposed U.S. troops' presence in Vietnam because it would be used as a propaganda by communists to lure more Vietnamese to fight against South Vietnam and America; Ho chi Minh, communist leader of North Vietnam, also celebrated this coup and said, "We will win this war; I cannot believe Americans are so stupid."
it was public opinion after Sputnik launch that US was behind USSR in technology, and that there was a "bomber gap". Eisenhower knew the truth that US missile tech was ahead (atlas and titan), and that they more long-range bombers. He kept quiet about it because he didn't want to tip off russians how much US intelligence knew.
It was that background that Nixon is refering to, and it is that background that JFK was wrong on this particular issue.
Hilarious to hear Kennedy talk about housing legislation, as it was government intrusion over many decades into real estate that played a part in the recent meltdown. So interesting to watch debates and realize how so many issues dealt with back then bear relevance to the here and now.
john kennedy was a president who was smart and knew what he was talking about people should of gave him a chance like that fucking basterd that shot him
He was also the most corrupt other than maybe Harding... only maybe. He likely would have either died of venereal disease or got brought down for corruption. The guy was using a mistress to shuttle money to mobsters in California.
Nixon and Kennedy are both so much better at speaking and debating than Obama and McCain were. Whatever your politics, I think this is pretty obvious.
I cannot believe Kennedy we were second in all these things and worst at other things, I cannot imagine how he got elected. And I am not Nixon fan, I think he was a Keynesian liberal.
as you know nothing Nixon doesn't even make sense he just likes to talk about other people what there doing wrong he doesn't get focused on what is supposed to do to help our country and second of all you can't compare Nixon with Kennedy sorry but they just don't act the same maybe if you would get your head out of your asshole and really watch this debate u could really see how much Nixon is a freak and a sneak and what kennedy is saying is all about the facts
Watch the whole debate, bro. Both go after each other. Nixon looked like a pale specter (recent surgery and illness mixed with an unwillingness to wear makeup) but most listening on the radio believed he knocked Kennedy out.
That said, this is one of the few elections were I honestly may have voted Democrat knowing what I know now. Nixon very well could have been more economically liberal.
Kennedy was pro life, cut taxes, was pro business, and was strong on national defense.
Thats interesting, bc a national poll of those who listened to the debate on radio decided that Nixon won the debate, because of an authority on the issues, as well as a generally superior intelligence.
Thats such bullshit, Kennedy was brilliant and a Pulitzer Prize winning author long before he became President. Have you ever even read any of his books?? Nixon was also very intelligent, but to say he was superior to Kennedy is erroneous and unsubstantiated.
"Profiles in Courage" is still attributed to JFK, and Sorensen did draft many of the chapters but Kennedy still wrote a great deal of it. As far as all the other books, such as "Why England Slept" and "A Nation of Immigrants", Kennedy DID write them and to my knowledge Sorensen had no role.
I think the accusations about Profiles in Courage are unfair. Several people said they saw him actually write it; Joe Alsop was one of them. He was flat on his back (recuperating from back surgery) with a pad & pencil writing away. Alsop said JFK presented him with a chapter he wrote & excitedly asked him to look it over & give him his opinion. He said he can't imagine why he would have done that if it was written by someone else. I am not sure my earlier post about this was correct.
In a way, the proof of the pudding on this issue regarding the books he wrote is right here in this presentation. How could anyone who can speak like this, off the cuff, speaking so rapidly, not be able to write. Come on , maybe he misspelled some words, maybe some punctuation needed a little correction. But anyone who can speak like this can write.
Yeah...that's what I was saying, there is no doubt under the sun that JFK was highly intelligent and gifted. I've never said otherwise, so you needn't lecture me about him. My info mainly comes from Robert Dallek's book, which is the only bio I have ever read about him. You and I weren't there in 19- whatever, so we can't be sure. So what's your point..?If youre trying to convince me of JFK's infallibility and saintliness, try again.
I am so sorry you interpreted all of that as lecturing. I was really trying to support your argumnent. Maybe I overdid it. I've read quite a bit about him. The Joe Alsop stuff I picked up from the JFK Library Oral History Program that is on line. I was 13 years old when JFK was killed. I remember his Presidency quite well.
I'm not certain about the first; while Kennedy contributed a minute amount in relation to John Quicy Adams and crafted the overall aim of the work, his staff did most of the work and writing. Mr. Sorenson has admitted as much. In relation to Why England Slept (a fine book no matter who wrote it), it was more a bachelor thesis. The last one I have not heard much about, but to be honest it would not surprise me if he had he staff create it as well.
One more additional note. He edited a book of writings titled As We Remember Joe to honor his brother killed over the English Channel during WWII, but it is exceedingly rare to find and costs quite a bit of money. Anyway, have a nice day!
My understanding is that he wrote the intro & the conclusion & did some of the research & drafted the first notes on the John Quincy Adams chapter. In addition, he read a lot of the biographies himself & he made numerous dictation tapes directing Sorenson on what he wanted done. It is not uncommon for members of Congress to author books in that fashion and have a staff member do a lot of the writing. I am sure he edited the full text as he edited all the speeches Sorenson ever wrote for him.
Yes, JFK was brilliant. He could read 1200 words a minute. He could read 5 newspapers in an hour and a book in a couple of hours. For those who think he couldn't write, he wrote almost in their entirety, the Berlin Wall Speech and the Civil Rights Speech in June of 1963. He threw out Sorenson's text becuase he didn't like it. The most well written, rhythmically flowing, easily readable portions of Profiles in Courage are the intro & the conclusion which he wrote.
@esb84 I don't think it's necessary to have a pissing contest between Nixon and Kennedy. Both men were highly intelligent and capable of holding the Office of President in 1960.
But in my honest opinion, and I say this is a liberal, Nixon was the most intelligent man to occupy the White House post-World War II. Kennedy came off better in this video (calm and smooth while Nixon is stiff and boring, but he was always like that). But Nixon was untouchable with diplomacy and domestic policy.
@esb84 it's not established that most of JFK's prized publications, including his speeches, were ghostwritten by other people in his staff a single Harvard classmate.
you cant compare the sneaky creep Nixon with Kennedy I didn't hear once in that debate Nixon talk about saying facts about helping our country he just kept putting what Kennedy said and I like the way Kennedy smoked his ass
I am not a Nixon fan, and with hindsight in mind, Kennedy may have been the only Democrat in the last century whom I would have voted for over a Republican.
But trust me, Kennedy was sneaky in a ay that Nixon never was. Nixon kept tape recordings of almost everything that went down in the White House, that does not scream sneaky.
Kennedy giving his mistress money to take to a California mobster, well that is pretty sneaky.
Kennedy had a more better understanding than Nixon and don't get me started because Obama and Kennedy are the ones that are alike how dare you compare a crook with Kennedy
If he had kept tape recordings of nearly every word uttered in the white house I promise you he would have been not only impeached but probably imprisoned. He was far beyond Nixon in being complicate in criminal activity.
Nixon made a mistake, well many actually, but it says a lot that unlike every other president in modern history, he kept audio recordings of himself. I would say that he was likely one of the less corrupt of the last fifteen.
Why does King Dick Nixon I get to keep dangling, at us? Do we look like pud-baiters? Do we not have a President, Dick VIII? Is he not of the line, of Dick V, the Bushmaster? Is Cheney not happy with Dick 5.5? Hillary is Dick VI, Bill is Dick VII. Hillary gets half a dick for letting Bill live, so O'bummer is Dick ATE, already, from Kenya but he cannot punk his brain to understand, how Jews, Purple Gang or kosher are from ETHIOPIA, so expect WWIII, after awhile. 360.yahoo/bobgnote
it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the JUDGEMENT:
whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the LAKE OF FIRE.
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord SHAL BE SAVED
Just listen to Kennedy...how profilitic he was...what if we would have listened...where might we be now...? He could be talking about the US now if you didn't know the year of this debate..SCARY!!!
Kennedy was killed because he was willing to expose and remove government conspiracy and corruption, I am now so convinced of this...I do believe it was our own country that had him killed...the mob, CIA, Homeland Security???? Who, I don't know exactly, but I do believe our mob and CIA were involved...scares me to death!!!! He and Lennon may have been able to keep the masses awake and aware..we might have been able to break the conspirators who want control of the world..they were bigger though.
JFK was maybe the most corrupt president ever, he had a mistress take money to a crime lord out west for crying out loud.
He was a venereal disease ridden, corrupt showman. If he would have been around longer, he likely would have been the one who had a Watergate style scandal.
There was poisonous corruption in Washington, one thing that lead to a changed perspective an demands or our elected officials was Watergate. Secondly the elimination of the fairness doctrine under Reagan's FCC.
Just look at the way that JFK deflects Nixon's misquotations. He rolls with the punches (showing just a hint of restrained anger) and follows through with a haymaker. He was a master at thinking on his feet; pulling more quotable lines off the top of his head than a entire team of speechwriters could have come up with.
Nixon talks about space as though it's a bitter contest. Kennedy talks about it like its a glamorous project.
The fact that the nice, idealistic, non-slimy candidate also looks good is just a bonus, something that would be thrown into a movie as a visual. The way a person thinks and acts shows through their looks: ever notice that Lincoln, butt-ugly as he was, never looks mean, ever? The expression behind Nixon's eyes is shifty and cold, no matter how objectively you look at it.
Kennedy didnt fail at the Bay of pigs, the Cia/ cuban exiles failed. The whole plan was planned during the Eisenhower term, and when kennedy one the election he learned of it 9 days into office, and it was forced on him. He opposed it, but reluctantly let it pass, then he took the blame. =)
Anyone who disagrees with me; please read the book about CIA by Tim Weiner. It was due to the incompetence of CIA and not directly Kennedy's fault, what happened on the Bay of Pigs.
So true. That was much more intelligently conducted than any presidential debate I have seen since I got old enough to understand politics. They were on topic the entire time, making thought provoking points, and not sounding like robots chanting slogans. They were trying to win votes from a much more intelligent America than what we have now.
It goes something like this: smart and kind, but spoiled and arrogant young rich-boy comes whooping into the White House. Gets dished a conflict and screws up big time by being dumb enough to get double-crossed by the CIA for assuming everyone is as idealistic as he is. He then picks himself up, furious and humbled, and with the help of a pile of brainy advisors and a devoted brother, lands on the track towards becoming the ideal president. Sadly, doesn't get as far as he hoped. :(
I wish we had the same smarts now in this stupid country than we had back then. I'm so disgusted with America today I can't even watch television ever again.

Both Nixon and Reagan were great Presidents. I sincerely wish we had them back rather than this total all out fraud we have in there now. We have become a lazy disease in this country dependent on big government. Like Mike Savage says "Liberalism is a mental disorder." From CIA declassified documents, America under the Kennedy administration orchestrated a military coup to overthrow and murder President Diem of South Vietnam government, who strongly opposed U.S. troops' presence in Vietnam because it would be used as a propaganda by communists to lure more Vietnamese to fight against South Vietnam and America; Ho chi Minh, communist leader of North Vietnam, also celebrated this coup and said, "We will win this war; I cannot believe Americans are so stupid."

it was public opinion after Sputnik launch that US was behind USSR in technology, and that there was a "bomber gap".
However, JFK spurred development even further.

Hilarious to hear Kennedy talk about housing legislation, as it was government intrusion over many decades into real estate that played a part in the recent meltdown. So interesting to watch debates and realize how so many issues dealt with back then bear relevance to the here and now.

Nixon and Kennedy are both so much better at speaking and debating than Obama and McCain were. Whatever your politics, I think this is pretty obvious.
I cannot believe Kennedy we were second in all these things and worst at other things, I cannot imagine how he got elected. And I am not Nixon fan, I think he was a Keynesian liberal.

as you know nothing Nixon doesn't even make sense he just likes to talk about other people what there doing wrong he doesn't get focused on what is supposed to do to help our country and second of all you can't compare Nixon with Kennedy sorry but they just don't act the same maybe if you would get your head out of your asshole and really watch this debate u could really see how much Nixon is a freak and a sneak and what kennedy is saying is all about the facts
coololds85 2 years ago
Watch the whole debate, bro. Both go after each other. Nixon looked like a pale specter (recent surgery and illness mixed with an unwillingness to wear makeup) but most listening on the radio believed he knocked Kennedy out.
That said, this is one of the few elections were I honestly may have voted Democrat knowing what I know now. Nixon very well could have been more economically liberal.
Kennedy was pro life, cut taxes, was pro business, and was strong on national defense.
chukmaty 2 years ago
Thats interesting, bc a national poll of those who listened to the debate on radio decided that Nixon won the debate, because of an authority on the issues, as well as a generally superior intelligence.
Nebel64 2 years ago
How do you know he has a superior intelligence? Can you read their minds?
dentabones 2 years ago
That was the opinion of those polled.
Nebel64 2 years ago
Wow I misread that, yeah he probably does for certain issues.
dentabones 2 years ago
Thats such bullshit, Kennedy was brilliant and a Pulitzer Prize winning author long before he became President. Have you ever even read any of his books?? Nixon was also very intelligent, but to say he was superior to Kennedy is erroneous and unsubstantiated.
esb84 2 years ago 22
Kennedy did not actually write his books; Profiles in Courage was crafted by his good friend and adviser Ted Sorenson.
thewvbob 2 years ago
"Profiles in Courage" is still attributed to JFK, and Sorensen did draft many of the chapters but Kennedy still wrote a great deal of it. As far as all the other books, such as "Why England Slept" and "A Nation of Immigrants", Kennedy DID write them and to my knowledge Sorensen had no role.
esb84 2 years ago 3
I think the accusations about Profiles in Courage are unfair. Several people said they saw him actually write it; Joe Alsop was one of them. He was flat on his back (recuperating from back surgery) with a pad & pencil writing away. Alsop said JFK presented him with a chapter he wrote & excitedly asked him to look it over & give him his opinion. He said he can't imagine why he would have done that if it was written by someone else. I am not sure my earlier post about this was correct.
0907oliv 2 years ago
In a way, the proof of the pudding on this issue regarding the books he wrote is right here in this presentation. How could anyone who can speak like this, off the cuff, speaking so rapidly, not be able to write. Come on , maybe he misspelled some words, maybe some punctuation needed a little correction. But anyone who can speak like this can write.
0907oliv 2 years ago
Yeah...that's what I was saying, there is no doubt under the sun that JFK was highly intelligent and gifted. I've never said otherwise, so you needn't lecture me about him. My info mainly comes from Robert Dallek's book, which is the only bio I have ever read about him. You and I weren't there in 19- whatever, so we can't be sure. So what's your point..?If youre trying to convince me of JFK's infallibility and saintliness, try again.
esb84 2 years ago
I am so sorry you interpreted all of that as lecturing. I was really trying to support your argumnent. Maybe I overdid it. I've read quite a bit about him. The Joe Alsop stuff I picked up from the JFK Library Oral History Program that is on line. I was 13 years old when JFK was killed. I remember his Presidency quite well.
0907oliv 2 years ago
I'm not certain about the first; while Kennedy contributed a minute amount in relation to John Quicy Adams and crafted the overall aim of the work, his staff did most of the work and writing. Mr. Sorenson has admitted as much. In relation to Why England Slept (a fine book no matter who wrote it), it was more a bachelor thesis. The last one I have not heard much about, but to be honest it would not surprise me if he had he staff create it as well.
thewvbob 2 years ago
One more additional note. He edited a book of writings titled As We Remember Joe to honor his brother killed over the English Channel during WWII, but it is exceedingly rare to find and costs quite a bit of money. Anyway, have a nice day!
thewvbob 2 years ago
My understanding is that he wrote the intro & the conclusion & did some of the research & drafted the first notes on the John Quincy Adams chapter. In addition, he read a lot of the biographies himself & he made numerous dictation tapes directing Sorenson on what he wanted done. It is not uncommon for members of Congress to author books in that fashion and have a staff member do a lot of the writing. I am sure he edited the full text as he edited all the speeches Sorenson ever wrote for him.
0907oliv 2 years ago
Yes, JFK was brilliant. He could read 1200 words a minute. He could read 5 newspapers in an hour and a book in a couple of hours. For those who think he couldn't write, he wrote almost in their entirety, the Berlin Wall Speech and the Civil Rights Speech in June of 1963. He threw out Sorenson's text becuase he didn't like it. The most well written, rhythmically flowing, easily readable portions of Profiles in Courage are the intro & the conclusion which he wrote.
0907oliv 2 years ago
@esb84 I don't think it's necessary to have a pissing contest between Nixon and Kennedy. Both men were highly intelligent and capable of holding the Office of President in 1960.
But in my honest opinion, and I say this is a liberal, Nixon was the most intelligent man to occupy the White House post-World War II. Kennedy came off better in this video (calm and smooth while Nixon is stiff and boring, but he was always like that). But Nixon was untouchable with diplomacy and domestic policy.
DoubleTalkingJive 1 year ago
@esb84 it's not established that most of JFK's prized publications, including his speeches, were ghostwritten by other people in his staff a single Harvard classmate.

you cant compare the sneaky creep Nixon with Kennedy I didn't hear once in that debate Nixon talk about saying facts about helping our country he just kept putting what Kennedy said and I like the way Kennedy smoked his ass
coololds85 2 years ago
I am not a Nixon fan, and with hindsight in mind, Kennedy may have been the only Democrat in the last century whom I would have voted for over a Republican.
But trust me, Kennedy was sneaky in a ay that Nixon never was. Nixon kept tape recordings of almost everything that went down in the White House, that does not scream sneaky.
Kennedy giving his mistress money to take to a California mobster, well that is pretty sneaky.
chukmaty 2 years ago
Kennedy had a more better understanding than Nixon and don't get me started because Obama and Kennedy are the ones that are alike how dare you compare a crook with Kennedy
coololds85 2 years ago
Kennedy was not "like" a crook, he was a crook.

Scorpio3002 2 years ago 7
