@tarantism From an online interview with jazzweekly : "Well, my brother bought as many Dolphy records as he could find. I heard a lot of Dolphy because he used to listen to a lot of Dolphy and I think that the record that we were most taken by was Iron Man, which has a very atmospheric kind of ambience to it in the way it was recorded."
@neverender888 Deserves, definitely. Though I don't think he'd go for it, he has that old punk DIY ethic. One of the most inspiring of the modern jazz/noise/whatever guitarists.
@GeorgeJohnPaulRingo He tends to not like a lot of boutique amps with class A circuits because, to him, they sound too trebbely, and he doesn't like having too much high end in his tone. The Schroeder is meant to be about as bright as he wants it, but without sacrificing the headroom he needs to run all his pedals and still maintain some clarity. That was from an interview in Premier Guitar (I think). Pretty sure it's still up on their website.
wilco at red rocks was great for a few songs because Nels dominated the whole sound. But he started to lay back and they went back to being unbearably boring. We left. But it was worth it for that few songs. Kudos to Wilco for recognizing his genius and giving him space.
A fantastically talented musician.

That whammy work at 7:45 just sparked a ridiculous amount of inspiration... Nels is unreal good.

Is he playing Thurston Moore's signature model at the end of that video?
nick4man3 9 months ago
It's more like the Lee Ranaldo signature (I'm sure I've spelt his name wrong), but it may just be common modifications to make to a jag/jazz

Thumbs up if you think Nels deserves his own signature model.

@neverender888 I think he deserves it, but I don't think he'd want one; He seems content with his vintage Jazzmaster

@44eelz at 5:32, a Schroeder head

@44eelz : could it be a Matchless? looks a little like it.
deathkampdrone 1 year ago
@deathkampdrone Nope, Schroeder. I read in a blog Nels no longer maintains that he hates Matchless and the like, for reasons not explicitly stated.

Nice to hear that he loves the Jaguar, and has played jazz on it. I thought I was the only one!
