You need the correct internal dia to allow the gas to flow as quick as possible at the right rev range. 3.5 inch is the size you would use on a 400hp turbo car because there is loads of gas & its turbulent. In say a 3L 6cyl you would use a 2.5inch dia. in such a small car, 3.5 inch is far too large for the amount of gas so the flow will be slow & the pressure would be increased.
