a beautiful piece of music in every way--with sturdy pastoral music (like a Morris dance orchestrated) balanced with that exquisite central melody. I don't know if anyone else gets it with English music--but it has a wistful quality to it--not quite sad---but pastoral tinged with sadness...For that quality and many other ones I'm mad about English classical music
Vaughan Williams a laissé des dizaines d'oeuvres inégales, mais ces "Guêpes" aristophanesques sont fort belles, et la mélodie est noble et profondément anglaise .
@NonInflatable it really is, alongside The Lark Ascending and the finale of Sibelius 5th, just mind numbingly beautiful, almost difficult to listen to, almost painful.
I thought it was amazing! I'm in my highschool orchestra and we had our first concert the other night, and we played Overture to the Wasps also. THIS definately sounded WAY WAY better. of course we didnt have a full band with us and we didnt have a long time to perfect it, but it was okay. NOT as good as this! LOVED it! ♥ (:

I disagree, the flute and french horn were fast asleep, the sound lacked colour and body as if directed by a robot and given the strenghth of the orchestra there was sod all power where it was needed. The only thing well orchestrated here was the applause !
It did have a very empty feeling to it, as if it were rehearsed one too many times. However I have to disgree with your flute comment. I think she did pretty well, along with the trumpet.
There's probably some fault of the orchestra here, but the sound quality in the video is really awful too. The balance in the recording is also really bad. There is no bass anywhere in this recording, which probably wouldn't have happened in the performance. The french horns were pretty mediocre though. :P

That blonde flautist is almost as beautiful as the music.

I first heard this in the Australian movie "Flirting," and the melody starting @3:30 has haunted me for years. I'm so glad that it's here.
The camera work and direction is actually quite good here, which is a funny thing to say about an orchestral video, but it's true.

The central melody is exquisite, one of the most beautiful of any composer.
