Manson actually makes a great deal of sense, and for that reason, he should not be allowed to ever leave prison. His responses are classic stream-of-consciousness monologues. Interviewers like Snyder, by saying childish things like "off the space shuttle," are not exposing madness; they are merely demonstrating their own inability to process Manson's responses.
Manson has never given an interview where he makes sense for more than 20 seconds. the interviewer has to do with it. he would sound crazy no matter who asked the questions. one of his tricks is to make it personal with the interviewer and appeal to people's sympathy by telling about his abuse as a kid and life in jail. he wants us to think he's not him he's us. he is not us but he is the worst of deranged human nature which we admit and he should take ownership of but he never has.
@morzanthegreat Most intelligent? God? Misunderstood? How do you understand insanity? Manson is a pathetic human being. He has nothing to offer except insight into mental illness and how not to treat troubled youth.
@morzanthegreat Most intelligent? God? Misunderstood? How do you understand insanity? Manson is a pathetic human being. He has nothing to offer except insight into mental illness and how not to treat troubled youth.
@DJSexLeopard It's actually a Hindu symbol and it doesn't look like it does the way the Nazis used it. It literally means "having to do with well being" the word Swastika means that.
He keeps telling Manson to "get off the space shuttle", but I feel like I understand what he's saying perfectly. He's not incoherent. Snyder is just a fucking idiot.
@GeorgeVreelandHill What did he do? He never killed anyone. That mark on his face is older than Hitler. Manson is an exceedingly charismatic, sociopath. He is in jail because he was misunderstood and thus feared. He is not a stupid man at all. He manipulated some dumb young people. THEY did the killing. Not him.
@Pleaver It's really dumb to say he's not guilty of anything. It's a really tired argument to say HE didn't kill anyone. HE is DANGEROUS because he was involved in making other people do those thngs. That's pretty much the definition of a criminal mastermind, which he totally is.
99% of the comments here show why he should have hung back in 1970, You clowns actually think the guy's cool. If he had swung then, no one would have to be subjected to the inane observations being made here.
@ChinoRdrgz Interesting. A debate on the merits of the death penalty is not the point, merely, that if the original sentence had been carried out, this would be all moot.

hey you MORONS...Manson is talking OUT OF HIS ASS. This is nothing more than the ravings of a LUNATIC. I can't even count how many times he contradicts himself...Unbelievable stupidity I see in all these comments..but I guess it's true what einstein said "genius has its limits but stupidity knows no bounds"
@mike8903 Manson is not a genius, but he isn't crazy either. He's extremely good at manipulation and he knew how to converse similarly to how a lawyer would in a courtroom. Think about that. There's a reason why he's one of the most controversial criminals in history.
He's not someone i think anyone should be looking up to, but calling him a lunatic is just fucking ignorant. Ever heard of semantics? What seems crazy to you could be normal to another. He even says that in this fucking video!
I don't know man, I think I believe alot of what Charlie is saying. But he's known for being a very convincing dude. This interviewer is not asking the right questions though. He needed to be less forceful and get to the point. As well as let Charlie make his point.
The annoying interviewer is Tom Snyder. He was a news anchor and radio talk show host. From '73 to '82 he had his own late night talkshow that followed Johnny Carson's Tonight Show called Tomorrow. He was every bit as egotistical as Charlie Manson. Snyder's style was fodder for standup comedians, like Carson, and comedy sketch shows like Saturday Night Live.
Manson is smart .But Manson is guilty. He danced a dance and tried to straddle the line.He did ordered the murders but he thinks he cut a fine enough line to insulate him from legal responsibility.Truth is he only participated in the murder of shorty shea and the labiancas......The media made him a superstar..thank the media for making him a star...they made alot of money off him..then they point their finger and say "evil" Money whores are evil..those who sold him so sucessfully
Sure, the interviewer may not be the deepest, most intuitive guy in the world, and sure he can be a bit annoying and sure, Charles Manson may be kind of a deeper more poetic, intuitive person... but people here seem to ignore that Charles Manson is basically an individual who personifies the danger of being irrational. And the interviewer is indeed trying to keep him from answering with non sequiturs.
@discardmyfriends I agree, I've always wanted there to be a Manson movie that tells his life story instead of showing reanactments of the murders and the trial. It's the same thing over and over again.
When Manson is honest & open, Tom has no idea what he's saying. He doesn't believe it or he doesn't want to believe it. So, of course, Manson gets pissed (& rightly so) & he throws out a few head games & then Tom ends up thinkin' he's crazy. Manson's right, society will only see/hear what it wants to. That's why people believe all this Helter Skelter crap. That wasn't Manson's trip.
One the one hand he sees many things far more logically and reasonably than do most people in this world, he is free from biased perceptions. On the other hand he also lacks the context that allow us to communicate and live with one another. He speaks gibberish and fosters fantastical ideas. He is a menace and a god. He is a demon and a philosopher. He is a person without being human, and that is why he fascinates and frightens people. Why he makes us think, but is also so very dangerous.
The issue is that Manson is likely a sociopath, psychopath, and schizophrenic. He has no concept of normal rules and behavior. He knows what his own perception of the world tells him. In some cases this is a positive thing and some cases bad.
I mean think what you will of Manson but the fuck is wrong with this interviewer? Way to not be biased...its clear that this guy has an opinion of Manson, and all of his questions reflect it. So we see only the side of the interviewer's opinion. He's aggressive and I mean Manson is what he is, but obviously in his head hes all over, and the interviewer is almost bullying him. I'm surprised Manson didn't get up and punched him in the face. I dont think the interview was fair, it was geared oneway
@alexTV you're too biased; forget the crimes he's been convicted of, it does not mean that all of his thoughts and words pertain to such a thing. I'm not saying he's good or bad, just that he is able to introduce insightful perspectives. you call him a nut job, but that literally is because you do not understand the experiences and thoughts he has harbored. there is wisdom to be revealed everywhere, and a biased personality deflects it.
some people say he's crazy evil, some people are in love with him, he's just charlie manson :p people need to just accept he's nothing more and nothing less than an old guy who's had a crazy life.
@iamjeona OK, so now it's acid's fault. Let's make that illegal? And let's make rope illegal too since it was involved in the murders. God forbid we blame the actual murderer, Tex Watson.
@Blahblobify Ten murder victims? Ten? Why aren't you worried more about the hundreds of thousands of lives butchered in Iraq at George W. Bush's direction. Mansion never hurt anyone or told anyone to do anything, he doesn't believ ein that.
@kingjojothegreat Oh really? He's as smart as he ever was. He's a sick sociopath and these people are so naive it's pathetic! He's goes which ever way the wind blows and is full of Bullshit!
how are you guys stoning the reporter??! this dude is crazy and to want him OUT of jail is just as fucked up. Manson keeps stepping in his own shit, and the reporter is pointing it out.
I do beleive Manson was actually at and participated in the Labianchi killing's, but as far as the Tate murders,he was not present. But he was "Convicted' of the Tate murders. So if I'm sitting in my kitchen and I tell someone "Go kill the president" and they do that I'm guilty of murder??Maybe if Manson wouldn't have "acted" so crazy and went about it in a sane and mild mannered way.I think the American public would have perceived him differently.Talk about guilty before proven innocent.
Charles Manson is smarter than this interviewer prick gives home credit for. Charles was guilty because the media said he was. No one in this world stops to think about the bullshit they've been fed since birth.
@gregg1321 Man, he hasn't made him eat his words, he interrupts him before he answers a question. By interrupting him, putting words in his mouth, and with implications he makes it seem as he's controlling this interview. Also, he edited it. Manson kicked his ass and he's lucky he even had a job after being embarrassed like this.
@gregg1321 I want you to elaborate on your oopinion. If you would listen to Manson WITHOUT PREJUDICE,you can actually understand what he's saying. I was around when this was happening. And before the American public heard one shred of evidence Manson was allready considered guilty.Largely due to his and the "Family's" crazy antics. The whole head shaving,Swastika carving, singing song's while being led into court. That definitely did not help. The whole "Hippie" thing was kinda brand new to America
@gregg1321 Fuck off, Why put Manson down, he's one of the smartest people alive today, listen to how he explains things and everything, don't be such a closed minded person, he's a good guy.
@badass1992canada would you let Manson live with you? i mean honestly, he 's said himself that he's not a nice guy, and in a round about sort of way he's admitted his involvement in some pretty bad things. i think something definitely went wrong with him as a child, and being a product of a john had to have an effect on him. he's a lot calmer here than other times I've seen him, which i believe is medication related. i think that the acid messed his head up more and took him to some dark places.
OMGWTFBBQ tell that to the ten murder victims that were tortured and butchered at his direction you sheep. even from prison he can influence weak minds like yours
@Blahblobify Your the sheep you F$&#!@* moron. Week minds Great subject you probably are the government doing everything they say driving there speed limit cause the man says thats safe your nothing but a number your the week mind so go do what daddy (Gov) says and live your life how he tells you BITCH!!!!
@badass1992canada Do read what you're saying. The family of the people that were killed by the people in his family wouldn't think he's a good guy. We shouldn't kill him because we can't have another trial by the rules of the bill of rights. He's a smart guy, just not all that good.
@badass1992canada What? Please tell me you are being sarcastic. He is a horrible stain on humanity who spits drivel out in an attempt to seem charismatic and enigmatic. Anyone who genuinely thinks he is very smart is falling for his act hook line and sinker. He's a cheap trickster who deserves a flashy stall in a carnival that smells like urine, nothing more.
@badass1992canada "he's one of the smartest people alive" That's one hell of an open mind. Manson is interesting, and an expert manipulator. The great manipulators can spin words, they make analogies, similes and metaphors. let's not confuse this one aspect as something to compare overall intelligence too. -p.s. i didnt read @gregg1321's comment.
if this guy is real hardcore like he thinks that he is...yea he should be like i was there and i told them to do it...hes full of shit..and a loser..another bum that cries about his childhood and wants to take it out on the world and people
Charles Mason should punch this retard that calls himself an interviewer. Its pissing Charles off and its really pissing me off that this interviewer wont let Charles talk for least one second.
Manson seems to represent alot of what Dostoevsky was writing about. He is a product of the pathology of modernity. Manson was right that the is just the "Negative that is reflected back by the light." He may be sick, but his sickness wasn't a personal choice alone. It was a social construct.
Charlie Manson is the clearest reflection of the hypocrisy of society I have ever come across. I hate the hypocrisy of society as much as he does. [Snyder] Acts 23:3 "…God will strike you, you whitewashed wall! U sit there to judge me according to the law, yet u yourself violate the law by commanding that I be struck!" Jesus said: "...you hypocrites [society]! U are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within r full of dead people’s bones and all uncleanness..."
@shangrila628 of course no ones born that way. but there are alot of ppl that grow up without family or have messed up childhoods that dont act like charlie. i think he wouldve been a unique person no matter what childhood he had, given the circumstances, this is how he turned out.
He sure reflected a lot on his life and seems to be an intelligent guy and Snyder i think just shows how much of a Vicitm of Society Charlie Manson really is.
He sure reflected a lot on his life and seems to be an intelligent guy and Snyder i think with his ''unagreeable way'' just shows how much of a Vicitm of Society Charlie Manson really is.
charlie has IQ.. really intelligent man. he knows what to do, he knew he gonna be interviewed again like this.. the reporter looked like a dumb ass jerk who dont know what his doing.. so he just question and question. 'carried away with his words..
Charlie doesn't actually seem crazy at all, but rather kind of intelligent. He just got a laid-back "fuck-you" attitude towards people like this reporter. The question still stands: Did he do it? I don't know.
How old are you in your world?

I do beleive Manson was actually at and participated in the Labianchi killing's, but as far as the Tate murders,he was not present. But he was "Convicted' of the Tate murders. So if I'm sitting in my kitchen and I tell someone "Go kill the president" and they do that I'm guilty of murder??Maybe if Manson wouldn't have "acted" so crazy and went about it in a sane and mild mannered way.I think the American public would have perceived him differently.Talk about guilty before proven innocent.
DARRINCONNOR1 9 months ago
Charles Manson is smarter than this interviewer prick gives home credit for. Charles was guilty because the media said he was. No one in this world stops to think about the bullshit they've been fed since birth.

@gregg1321 Do you know much about charles manson?
austinha11 9 months ago
@gregg1321 Man, he hasn't made him eat his words, he interrupts him before he answers a question. By interrupting him, putting words in his mouth, and with implications he makes it seem as he's controlling this interview. Also, he edited it. Manson kicked his ass and he's lucky he even had a job after being embarrassed like this.
scumgod13 9 months ago
@scumgod13 how do u know this
HoustoNawfside 8 months ago
@gregg1321 I want you to elaborate on your oopinion. If you would listen to Manson WITHOUT PREJUDICE,you can actually understand what he's saying. I was around when this was happening. And before the American public heard one shred of evidence Manson was allready considered guilty.Largely due to his and the "Family's" crazy antics. The whole head shaving,Swastika carving, singing song's while being led into court. That definitely did not help. The whole "Hippie" thing was kinda brand new to America
DARRINCONNOR1 9 months ago
@gregg1321 If he were doing that, I'd give him props, but he just keeps interrupting Manson while he's talking.
AbbehRose 8 months ago
@gregg1321 Fuck off, Why put Manson down, he's one of the smartest people alive today, listen to how he explains things and everything, don't be such a closed minded person, he's a good guy.
badass1992canada 8 months ago 4
@badass1992canada would you let Manson live with you? i mean honestly, he 's said himself that he's not a nice guy, and in a round about sort of way he's admitted his involvement in some pretty bad things. i think something definitely went wrong with him as a child, and being a product of a john had to have an effect on him. he's a lot calmer here than other times I've seen him, which i believe is medication related. i think that the acid messed his head up more and took him to some dark places.

"he's a good guy"?

Idiot.
Blahblobify 8 months ago
@badass1992canada Do read what you're saying. The family of the people that were killed by the people in his family wouldn't think he's a good guy. We shouldn't kill him because we can't have another trial by the rules of the bill of rights. He's a smart guy, just not all that good.
jfake1980 8 months ago

It seems like its every reporter's dream to get Charlie to confess or explain the murders. The problem is, they never give him a chance to talk!

Manson seems to represent alot of what Dostoevsky was writing about. He is a product of the pathology of modernity. Manson was right that the is just the "Negative that is reflected back by the light." He may be sick, but his sickness wasn't a personal choice alone. It was a social construct.
PhiloAmericana 10 months ago 3
Charlie has suffered alot. Society broke him. I have sympathy for him in that sense.

U are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within r full of dead people’s bones and all uncleanness..."

if that motherfucking tom snyder says "off the space shuttle" one more time i'll cut him.

No man is born this way. He had no family growing up and that definitely has a lot to do with how he turned out to be.
shangrila628 10 months ago 3
@shangrila628 of course no ones born that way. but there are alot of ppl that grow up without family or have messed up childhoods that dont act like charlie. i think he wouldve been a unique person no matter what childhood he had, given the circumstances, this is how he turned out.

He sure reflected a lot on his life and seems to be an intelligent guy and Snyder i think just shows how much of a Vicitm of Society Charlie Manson really is.

charlie has IQ.. really intelligent man. he knows what to do, he knew he gonna be interviewed again like this.. the reporter looked like a dumb ass jerk who dont know what his doing.. so he just question and question. 'carried away with his words..
jielicious13 11 months ago
Charlie doesn't actually seem crazy at all, but rather kind of intelligent. He just got a laid-back "fuck-you" attitude towards people like this reporter. The question still stands: Did he do it? I don't know.
