Drop knees are so lazy. That should be illegal. You can drop knee but you cant grab your leg to assist in sode without it being reviewed by officials.
Yah, drop ippon seoi nage's are annoying I agree, there only good for when your starting to tired but stand up seoi nage's rule in Judo. Personally Ippon seoi nage and Uchi mata are my favourite throws.
There's no reason short guys can't do uchi mata, that's a total myth. You just need to be flexible and make sure you lift sideways with the hips before raising out the leg
the leg doesn't matter it's all about posturing and raising through the hips, if you do the uchimata right then the leg doesn't have to push hard or reach far
I agree, I'm 5'7 and weigh 166lbs. I have a hard time pulling off a uchi mata for the reason being that yes my legs aren't long enough. I have to stick with hand reaps as my specialty
This is has got to be one of the most retarded comments i ave heard about judo! You want to ban Seoi-nage from Judo? how can you be a serious judo competitor if you dont train this throw? and your coach told you that? baffling
I often worked on morote-seoi and I worked in order to improve my ippon-seoi in each training session when I was in my old club, until april 2007.Then I stopped.
Now I changed club and my new coach told this about seoi, when we fight we train only traditional seoi(without diving on knees) and always keeping control of uke).
The traditional seoi nage i s much harder to do in competition and easier to counter. But it is more beautiful and in self-defense situation is more devastating on your opponent (especially on concrete) because of the bigger leverage of swinging the uke on your hips on stead of your back. But this is a great move that has won world championships. You should not propose such thing as banning. Just don't do you yourself.
u cant ban this throw from judo. when anyone take up judo, they should know the risk of getting injured. and thats why break falling are always taught before any throws.
My brother has ended any serious judo ambitions due to an injury during a seio nage. But he says to this day that it was because he was fighting someone much heavier and that it was his fault for continually dropping with this guys heavy pressure. He would hate for this to get banned and so would 90% of people i talk to. kami basami was something else.
i don't know the exact name of the injury but it was associated with his arm and shoulder which basically would hurt whenever he used it with force. He managed to win a national championship however using his unfavoured left hand/arm and was asked to the commonwealth but declined because of it. His tokuiwaza and most effective technique was drop seio nage and as for the guy that injured him well he lost to the seio nage by 2 waza aris. It was the second drop that injured him. Still owns me tho.
oh and he has had surgery since then which left him unable to train for a while and now he's hesitant on fighting right handed and his left handed technique has improved quite a bit. Just time off fighting has left him a little slow. In time he could win if he wants to risk his arm which i'm not sure he will.
and what about smaller fighters like me? Im short and light. no uchi-mata or any thorws with neck grap for me. Im not that string for ogoshi and variations. no "drop seoi" for me means giving up of competing. and you must try to soften every throw during a practice. even when doing shiai.
And once I got my balls hit by a sleepy leg during a hane goshi. my left ball still hurt after doing intense physical activities ever since. so lets ban it! it could had sterilized me! -> being ironic.
Can I ask why the hell would you try to soften up even one single goddamn throw? This is judo not a goddamn dance, the people there are taught how to fall
Im not talking about shiai/randori. if you are practicing only to correct your moves, or lets say, a grading exam, I don't see why you woundn't push uke's sleeve during the kake.
I am not sure I understand what you mean... Push uke's sleeve? Where would you push the sleeve? And anyway let me recite your previous post "you must try to soften every throw during a practice. even when doing shiai." From there i got the impression you are talking about shiai. And even when practicing your techniques (kagari-keiko, yakusokukeiko) I at least aim for as fast and explosive throw as I can, not unnescessarily try to soften it up. Of course training for grading is a different thing
when I mean pull the sleeve i mean: you are holding the uke's sleeve, so, after doing the throw you pull it a little up. don't know if I made it clear now.
when I say to *try* to soften it during shiai/randori i mean not "sealing" an uchi-mata, for instence, if you don't need to. you wont be delicate as a flowerist, but you won´t be fighting like a troll if you don't need to.
Smaller competitots Morote Seoi Nage is ideal as u dont have to lift the able. Drop seoi nage's are gd if your fast, can pull it off perfectly each time and are light. 73kg+ tend to avoid them as it knackers ur knees. Standing variation is still the best.
to do a drop seoi nage in a tournment u gotta knnock the guys legs open so u can get rite in ther and get them and u gotta have speed and u need to pul the person towards u
Your all wrong (well most of you who think that drop seo is easy). It is actually harder than normal seo nage because you have to bend down, get underneath them and lift. Also when you do it, you pull the person down, so it is very effective. The main point is to win, not try and look good to everyone there. It's nice, but not needed.
sant seois ? judô is an art end everybody have your style and must be respected, you you don´t like is because probably you lose for someone who fights like this ...
i bet 85% of the people who dislike using seois are heavyweights. admit it lol. i am a heavyweight too but for heavies its just easier to roll with all ur weight when u go for it. instead of going over just grip the arm and roll over it. i dont know if u can visualize that.
I don't know if its just me but I find these types of forward throws to be extremely difficult in a match. Not only is it hard to set up and execute the throw, the opponent often counters it quickly. Gotta practice these more!
i agree with MMMacho, i'm not a fan of the 'drop seoinages' prevalent in this vid. the best seois to me are 'koga' style which are quite aerial. this may be winning judo, but it aint as pretty as the classical stand up seoinages
With due respect those are not *best* seoinages. Indeed, in my humble opinion those are far from good.
In seoinages you shouldn't be kneeling. You bend your knees to lower yourself when getting inside but NEVER kneel.
If fact, for me, a beautiful seoinage is when you straighten your legs up while doing the throw. Like in an push upward movement with your ass. That way you literally are making the guy fly over you. Not dragging him down with you when kneeling, which is what we've seen here.
But only problem with seois is that it is quite easy to block and very popular technic today so nearly everyone can block it properly so that makes it more difficult to do seoi in competition...
yea its really easy to clock, or just walk around, howver I've been thinking about utilizing it more in my game. I like using a left uchi mata (im right handed), so when my opponents fight me and they know I wanna go for a left throw they oivot to my right, so thats the perfect time to nail them with a ippon seoi nage. The only thing is switching the grips. Oh well I'll figure it out..
The key thing is just to get your opponent moving. Try to sweep at his feet a few times and start moving him around. Then get him moving toward you and go for the throw. Another thing is remember to get in close when you're going for drop seoi!
Im injured and miss judo. This video is not helping :(
