Put someone on a diet of heavily processed food vs. someone on foods like Jamie is making and the person who eats Jamie's will be healthier. The kitchens in these schools have top of the range equipment etc so top dollar is spent there. @unclereggie1 the gadgets are a one time expense, the food is every month or however often they buy it. It is totally backwards that bad food is cheap while good food is expensive. Corn growers get help from the government too, subsidies paid to the growers. Corn is a grain not a vegetable, and has much fewer nutrients than real vegetables.
We don't even get fries served at my high school. There's a Pizza/Pasta line, a Mexican Line, American Grill Line, and a Subs/Salad Line. I will say that the American Grill/Pizza & Pasta Line are the more packed lines. But there's still a buttload of ppl that go to the Subs/Salad Line..........just sayin. I've never seen a high school like their's b4 tho..... :/

If my high school had a salad bar i'd have been eating there everyday. Instead we had these pre packaged things with brown and wilty lettuce and other veggies that were covered in brown spots. The rest of the food always mushy and greasy and didn't resemble food except the fries. Also the milk was usually past expiration date and they wouldn't let you get a different one. College was so much better till SRU cheaped out on everything.
This is worse than I thought elementary kids shouldn't be eating pizza for lunch anyway they should have some healthy meals I'm 22 if I was a parent I would be mad as hell !

I eat french fries (small Chick-fil-A, cooked in canola oil) at least 5 days a week. My butt is not that big.. my bmi is 20.8. Portion control and calorie intake is what is more important when it comes to fries.
@chemicallls actually the type of food is important as well. It has to do with the calories spent to digest the food ur eating, the insulin spike the food causes, the types of fat it has. Of course calorie control is mandatory but its just the start of the process.

We don't even get fries served at my high school. There's a Pizza/Pasta line, a Mexican Line, American Grill Line, and a Subs/Salad Line. I will say that the American Grill/Pizza & Pasta Line are the more packed lines. But there's still a buttload of ppl that go to the Subs/Salad Line..........just sayin. I've never seen a high school like their's b4 tho..... :/

If my high school had a salad bar i'd have been eating there everyday. Instead we had these pre packaged things with brown and wilty lettuce and other veggies that were covered in brown spots. The rest of the food always mushy and greasy and didn't resemble food except the fries. Also the milk was usually past expiration date and they wouldn't let you get a different one. College was so much better till SRU cheaped out on everything.

Seriously, Rod, take that 60 foot pole out of your ass and look around you. The world is getting fatter and fatter every day. Kids are getting used to processed foods, it's their life now, and that's terrible. 30 years from now, everywhere you look, you'll see little kids that are 5 weighing in at 150 lbs. Some people say Jamie Oliver does what he does only to promote his business and earn HUGE CASH .I am not sure if thats the case, BUT even if it is atleast he is making an effort to change bad eating habbits and make ppl healthier. SO even if its done for the wrong reasons, the outcome is actually beneficial to society .Hope more people see that and try to help change what our children eat..

Geez, if these 'cooks' in the school only know who Jamie Oliver is. I mean, they want proof that it works? There is plenty of government red-tape in UK, and a healthier menu is still implemented in those schools. There school 'cooks' need to try to understand, instead of just plain refusing change. Isn't that one of the reasons why Americans are so proud of their country? That they welcome improvement?

I eat french fries (small Chick-fil-A, cooked in canola oil) at least 5 days a week. My butt is not that big.. my bmi is 20.8. Portion control and calorie intake is what is more important when it comes to fries.

@chemicallls actually the type of food is important as well. It has to do with the calories spent to digest the food ur eating, the insulin spike the food causes, the types of fat it has. Of course calorie control is mandatory but its just the start of the process.

This town/city, as a whole, is not providing the children in the schools with a balanced diet, nor option OF a balanced diet.
