  • incredible voice

  • The pioneer's new ave music, the best beautifull man, the most sensual voice in the world, Love Serenella from Cagliari

  • @63serenella Comunque si dice *New wave*..e "The best beautifull" non ha senso :)

  • @danNYx86 Have you ever made any mistakes, my teacher?

  • あまり他で高い評価を聞いた記憶がないのですが、スティーブ・ジャンセンのドラミングは脅威です!

  • Ive drank a bottle of jack daniels tonight while listening to japan and mick karn.. still fookin gutted......

  • I cannot BELIEVE that Mick Karn is GONE!!!... I knew that he had been sick for sometime but I was actually "hoping" that he had BEATEN his disease since he and Peter Murphy were supposedly "working" on a "Dali's Car new project"!!!... Mick, we Japan fans will SURELY MISS YOU!!!...

  • @petermurphreak

What? I had not heard this. Very sad.

  • @ar4216 has any one heard how he is doing lately?

  • @siamesebailey22

Who, Mick Karn? He passed on.

  • A sad loss today.

Try to imagine what Japan's music woud have sounded like without Mick Karn's incredibly fluid basslines: impossible.

    RIP, Mick.

  • RIP Mick Karn.

  • Thank God for Mick Karn and the boys - nothing like them before or since. Totally unique. From the days when music experimentation took leaps and bounds...........love it!!!!!

  • Japan are one of my utmost favourite groups EVER,i have a group dedicated to them on Facebook seems im the only one.David Sylvian is absolutley stunning in every way :D

  • If you wish to help Mick Karn, go to his site mickkarn dot net.

  • He must be what GOD looked like in the 80's!!!.....OBSCENELY GORGEOUS creature for sure!!!... And even today at 52 he's still a SPECTACULAR looking boy!!!....

  • anybody hear Mick Karn has cancer? im soooooo bummed. he needs our help.

  • @MrGziss

Yeah, i'm gutted to hear it. I'm going to an event for him in the nightporter club, London tonight.

  • You can go to nightporter.co.uk/pages/bass_auction.html to learn about a bass auction with the proceeds going to the Mick Karn Appeal to help this great bassist and his family during his recent time of need.

  • Go to mickkarn.net and see how you can help him fight his bout with cancer!

  • Beautiful quality video, great song, stereo sound. Top upload! More Japan videos in this quality please :)

  • one of my best song ever T-T

  • I'm 17 and a massive fan of Japan, Bowie etc. Have known of Japan for years, they are great. Have gotten my friends into them!!

  • @BastetMeow Thats great, gagamusic all over....

  • I'm too 15. And I love Japan, Sylvian, Bowie, Kate Bush... my god, I miss 80s.

  • Let me see, where did Duran Duran get their sound and their look? Japan maybe?

  • @Stax63 early on yes

  • @shockmastershoksu: Most definitely!

  • thanks for uploading

  • utter pish

  • listen to the drum beat Leila K Rob "N" Raz "Rok The Nation"

  • Its definitely all of them...although Sylvian is the songwriter,Mick Karn's bass playing took the songs to a new level and Steve Jansen's drumming was so innovative that its just magic and luck that they happened to meet so young(and 2 being brothers).....it really is luck and fate with most great bands....like Led Zeppelin also, what are the chances of those 4 amazingly talented people crossing paths at such young ages!

  • @KilmerVarient very true. being a bass player myself for 30 years, Mick Karn's style was amazing. no one at that time was playing that kind of style on british pop records. his frettless bass sound really shaped the unique sound of Japan.

  • Tin Drum was a revelation.............changed my perceptions completely

  • Actually, the distinctive sounds of JAPAN is from the creative genius of MICK KARN.

Even now, the youth are amazed by the music art by JAPAN.

  • they all contributed to it- Sylvian, Karn, Barbieri, Jansen, Dean, all brilliant musicians

  • Gary Le Strange...(Waen Shepherd)..."I'm Japanese'..?

  • Tindrum the album had the best songs all time!!!

  • David Sylvian looks beautiful! But I always fancied Steve Janssen, who was often pictured in Smash Hits magazine unshaven and looked really sexy. Mick Karn always had no eyebrows!

  • I don't dispute David Sylvian's beauty either then or NOW for that matter, as I still find him to be very attractive. I guess I can't help but wonder if David would get a bit disgusted with his fans for focusing solely on his looks. David is so much more than the shell of a person he's living in during this lifetime.

  • david sylvian is by far the most handsome man god created!!!!!

  • @boobiecutie

We used to call him Lady Diana Sylvian.

  • @boobiecutie He's just a little too thin though ;-)

  • @boobiecutie apart from me!!

  • @boobiecutie

Oh yes, forget handsome, completely HOT!

  • @boobiecutie me agree xx

  • perfect times a kazilloin,......love you david xxxxx

  • when was the song released?

  • Released in 1981, on the album Tin Drum.

Hearing it at that time was jaw-dropping.

After being a so-so band in the 1970s (influenced by Bowie, Roxy, glam rock...), Japan suddenly achieved greatness with Gentlemen Take Polaroids in 1980.

  • They don't make videos like this anymore. There's no such thing as interpretation anymore. I think, as well, that David Sylvian modelled his movements on Debbie Harry a bit! Not that it was a bad thing.

  • Awesome music, sylly clip.

  • One of the coolest bands this planet ever produced. Feels like forever that I have waited to see their vids. Thanks for the upload Konoha :)

  • Hearing disorder ,think not.Just waiting for a roxy music fan to say"something irrelevent!

    Yes we have a winner!

  • Excellent track.....wnderful arrangement.........Sylvians voice is wonderful a full octave above ferry's attempted croon.............When music meant something..in comparison to the false prophets of todays stale scene....

  • i'm sorry, did you just say Ferry's "ATTEMPTED" croon? ok, i'm not going to blame you for having an extreme hearing disorder

  • I love the Deirdre Barlow specs

  • We all love the GUARDIAN and all what try to read it.

  • タマラン

  • You dont have a clue what your talking about, Japan formed in 1974, Niel Tennant was how old then?? Surely this is a piss take, it must be!

  • An interesting take on history. Are you on medication?Do you want to talk to somebody?

  • ha ha!! thats the funniest thing i heard in a long time, keep it up.

  • just went tolondon at the time and suffered the hydepark bombings there were horses all over the place but YOU MUST go on as terrorist will win when we give up and we must crack on and defeat them for a better world remember hitler came to power only 70 years ago and the shit still goes on ...............money driven

    thanks for the video

  • Jpan are an awsome band, David sylvians work now is just as good. if you like this listen to dead bees on a cake its excellent

  • If you want to learn to play fretless bass, this is the album to practice to.

  • Nick Rhodes stole Daves look.

  • ahahaha no he just borrowed xD

  • which is a nicer way of saying stealing ;)

  • Dave stole his look from Debby Harry (Blondie) or vice versa. He is a prettier version with nicer teeth and he applies his makeup better than her. :-) . Look up Heart of Glass video Blondie. David and Debby were separated at birth. Great band.

  • Man this video takes me back! When I first discovered DS and Japan they had already split but I was lucky enough to find this videotape and the rest is history! I've been a huge fan of David and Steve's ever since. DS has the BEST male voice in pop music. It makes my heart sing!

  • As a drummer , I was always into Steve Jansen's drumming --awesome talent, what a great band !!!!

  • Great great drummer indeed. The whole bad was great. Barbieri on synths and keyboards. Rob Dean was an underrated guitarist and Mick karn on fretless.

  • Agreed - phenomenal drummer, who has now reached a level of musicality rarely seen.

  • I cannot get over how much Nick Rhodes of Duran duran looks like the lead singer!

  • good song, this, umm yeah...mind you, i don't get why they sang about caravans...hmm...

  • perfect band !!

  • I love the style of this vid.

  • Quality stuff, got to see them on their tin drum tour(im 44 and still listen to Japan),the sound was & is fantastic ,i still have the tour program.

  • The only good thing I can think of about turning 40 this year is it means that I was around when Japan were together. Practically worth it!!

  • haha - me too, but at 42...

  • well i am getting ready for my 40th in jan, soon come around i suppose. success to you.

  • Why didn't Japan make more videos like this one? :( david's so pretty :)

  • Pretty AND good teeth!! The perfect man! Oh, and a voice that still sends tingles up my spine!

  • I wish I could have seen these guys live.... my Dad did..

  • coolest band ever!

  • 80s Forever !!!

  • He's the inspiration of Japanese animi.

  • if so i'm gonna buy loads!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Striking imagery.....I do love the glasses too....I wonder if the "like every good boy should" is from Bowie; what year is this song?

  • Still loving those drums at 2.20!!! I will never tire of Japan!

  • Just the other day my 11 yrs old niece asked me: Uncle, how come all good songs are so old?

I laughed but then I realized that she was right. This song confirms it. Japan was and still is one of my absolut favorits.

  • i love this song

    i love Japan

    i love David

  • Omg I had those glasses. Adore this song. Adore that voice.

we were all so pretty back then :D

  • Aint that the truth??!!! I think I'd top myself if I was a teenager again and all I had to listen to was the tripe they throw up these days. "X Factor, X Schmactor"

  • Don't worry, very little people of our age listen to such tripe.. I'm 15 and I absoloutely adore bands such as Japan and The Cure.. =] However.. I am the minority..

  • We are in the Minority ;)

    soz, really late reply XD

  • @HumanJarv Don't worry, just keep being yourself ;-)

  • @AORCrazy I'm 18 now, haha.. Still love 'em. It's not hard to be yourself, whatever people may say. ;)

  • Nick Rhodes of Duran2 stole his look...

    seriously.

well i guees the highest form of flattery is imitation

  • They do look astonishingly alike in some photos.

He's so pretty- and his brother :)

  • excellent!

  • what a great song excellent drum beats thank you for posting.

  • Wasn't he just! Ran in the family (Steve?!) So many people at the time called him effeminate. See him on stage once, and any doubt would be blown away. Sylvian is the quintessence of masculinity, and a truly beautiful human being. Major frell that they split...

  • Great to hear this track again, and what a handsome man. My favourite band of the 80's.

  • This was my fave band of the eighties, I'm 52 now and still love thier unique sound, nothing to touch it as far as I'm concerned, and how cute was David ? I went to see them loads, God it takes me right back, thank you so much for sharing this x

  • thank you for this

it has a great resolution and sound

    thanks a lot

    Japan is timeless and unique

    its a pitty is over

  • HaHa!! but David is much prettier than Lady Di! love & peace....

  • Fab blast from the past. Timeless. Never knew David started the 'Lady Diana' hair style!

  • timeless , music and lyrics way ahead of time pure class
