  • great stuff bro

  • "Motherfuckas better realize now's the time to self-actualize" Truth in this line.

  • Don't care for Mos Def... but Saul is amazing

  • he's a spiritual warrior fighting the good fight, igniting without fright, writing without light. the spark of consciousness that once was, that will be, that brother you and i see no matter what other perceive as true. But what others spread as lies, deception and perception, and inception is the lesson here, it's why were here, people don't understand what they hear.Their is only one thing I'm sure of in this world love and love. keep on with it, love will always prevail as long as lovers love

  • The people sitting there must be joking to think they understood this first time.

  • I am intrigued by the frequency comments. Because we do operate on different freuquencies. And there are certainly exterior factors that sometimes affect our behavior.

  • holy shit i need to here that at least 30 times to get it

  • I love it when I hear something that I need to hear multiple times to grasp the full message. If you need him to dumb it down for you then admit it, don't try to make him seem unintelligent because you can't mentally handle his artistry. Just because his poetry is hard to understand does not mean it is foolish. That is one of the most artistically intellectual things you will ever hear in four minutes... end of discussion.

  • @pimparoni10 Exactly. Think of how long it probably took him to write that out. Expecting to understand it fully in one go is insulting to him.

  • thats what im talking about! come sub to my channel

  • What is this guy SO SOUR ABOUT? Don't these guys have anything POSITIVE to say? OK I GET IT, you are ANGRY, and the world is 'out to get you'...Poetry, my foot.

  • @wewantfred You need to get hit by a bus first to understand apparently, his poetry and dreams ARE positive, there's a light at the end of the tunnel to what he's trying to accomplish. Don't call him pessimistic because he's not, it's people like you who forget so easily what's he's trying to remind you of.

  • Comment removed

  • @wewantfred And another note, go ahead and be an obedient slave, go ahead, bend over, how far does that big giant cock have to fuck you in the ass until you feel it.

  • He can shutup wit all dat he kno nobody can understand him he still talkin smh

  • I love when those who can barely string two words together criticize the creative forces , talented individuals . Go back to listenening to Li' Wayne.

  • was he rapping - sounded like a rapper from the wu-tang clan

  • his mind is high above the computer's audio system lmao

  • This Mother Fuck'a flow is so dope, its glitching the fucking matrix!! Hence the skips =P

  • what season is this

  • i think he could have said it all simply, but he said it in "coded language" to keep us from the simple truth of it, mimicking the coded language of the structured world that seems simple but really is a lot more complicated than this poem.

  • The meaning of the song is to achieve self-actualisation: the relisation of the potential that the individual can ccomplish to the best of his abilities; the rejection of mediocraty and 'normal' or 'averageness' and the realisation that the person understand everything; his sense of reality; frame of mind etc, is better than any person can teach or embed within memory; to the extent it limits our capabilities and people as a result. Everyone must see who they are and, through will, understand.

  • @nickjujitsu eh, think about it a little more. there's more to it than just that.

  • @cypresshotspots Can you explain please.

  • is it just me or does this thing keep doing small skips... it's freaking me out

  • I love Saul Williams, my first start to the world of slam poetry .. he is awesome

  • listing to a genius like him All I can tell to my self is MORE WE KNOW MORE WE UNDERSTAND THAT WE DON'T KNOW!

  • He screwed up when he said the f word. That's why no standing ovation.

  • motherfuckers better realise!

  • @craigpsimpson Youtube can't keep up with Saul Williams.

  • the lyric is taken from a justin bieber song... ; )

  • Top comment just needs one more vote...

Dumb YouTube games aside, this is incredible. Saul is a genius.

  • ummmmm !!! i want my damn keys!!! aint that the dude who played crazy on lacawana blues

  • Did anybody else notice the video skips at certain points??

  • <3 <3 <3 I love this.

  • This has Buddhism written all over it. "To acknowledge their responsibilty to uplift the consciousness of the entire fucking world."

  • i will marry a man like saul williams. so inspiring.

  • amazing. Expanded my paradigm.

  • Translation: Dont be afraid to be yourself, don't be afraid to love. The universe is harmonious and so we should live in harmony - that path has already began to be paved by so pioneers many before us... lets keep building.

  • My only question is. How did people not give him a standing ovation after this?

  • I remember the first time I heard this piece.

I was so inspired by this new art form,

Now I am trying to make it my own

Please stop by my page I am just trying to be heard.

    Your feedback is very appreciated.

Using my art form to help people is my dream,

  • @crakeET5 you mean threee

  • @crakeET5 Saul might be the first among us in the modern age to understand The Question.

  • @crakeET5 it's about uplifting our consciousness. Reject mediocrity. Reclaim the present. Take over the now (the present). Only we can change things. It's our responsibility. It is our presents and future. Occupy the World.

  • @Alexthunder100 I AAAGGGRREEEEE :)

  • i don't understand this poem at all...could someone please enlighten me?

  • 240p, we meet again.

  • The Four Little Girls line is a reference to the 16th Street Church bombing that murdered four girls in 1963 in Birmingham, Alabama while they attended Sunday school. Spike Lee did a documentary on the event in 1997 entitled Four Little Girls.

  • bro if u would talk for Jesus u would change the world,i see your spirit,as a profet, but whitout the truth that tear ur heart apart,it would be just a waste of speach.

  • I want his brain.

  • People are so gullible, this is nothing of great power or meaning. All he is doing,is using intellectual challenging word's mushed fast together.A number of famous people's names. This is not amazing in anyway.People that like this obviously have know understanding into what he is truly saying. The fact is he's not really saying anything.

  • @DrunkGamerNerd First of all, using incorrect punctuational syntax, using incorrect words in contexts (know and intellectual) and making a grammatical error is definitely discrediting your case. Second of all, of course saying a list of famous people's names isn't impressive in itself, it was meant to be impressive, or at least emotionally affecting, by its delivery. Third of all, tell me why you, one of the greatest philosophers, are on youtube? You did after all discover a method to figure...

  • @DrunkGamerNerd authorial intent! Anyway, oh great one, what do you say he is saying, since you know what he is truly saying? How did you come to this conclusion- can you teach me how to figure out authorial intent with [almost] absolute certainty? Can you prove your opinions to actually be factual?

  • so is auto-tune a superpower now? lol

  • Saul Williams is a poetic genius. He channels the best of Ted Joans and mixes it with his own style. Incredibly underated and it is sad that people do not know him by name in the mainstream outside of poetic circles. The best part of this video is the fact that the crowd stands awestruck and silent. Powerful.

  • Do you think Common would dig my version??

Hello people of YouTube. I'm a female MC from Dallas, Texas. I have a song/video of me rapping to I Use to Love H.E.R. by Common(REAL HIP-HOP). Check it out and let me know what you think. Thank you!

  • what the heck is he talking about?

  • @macheqosa He is explaining how society tries to educate us and put us in a box but in reality they don't know anything... Our frequency of understanding is nothing compared to the creator.... We think we know what reality is but we don't. Listen to it one more time...

  • @samuelkeshon u think u can actually do that with his voice?...

  • yemaya oshun obatala=yoruba?

  • Thanks for posting, but this video does seem to be missing some key lines:

"If you must count to keep the beat, then count.

Find your mantra and awaken your subconscious.

    Curve your circles counterclockwise.

Use your cipher to decipher, Coded Language, man-made laws.

Climb waterfalls and trees, commune with nature, snakes and bees."

  • @borobluess Probably got shortened down for the shear sake of speed, because the poem itself is still extremely epic with what it has.

  • @borobluess Daaamn you on point. Much Respect!!!

  • that's what truth sounds like

and it fell too fast for the microphone

  • I had the opportunity of opening up for this dude awhile back when he came to CT to perform at HCC

  • sick should be a reaction description

  • Dude went hard as a mf

  • There is another video on here of this performance without the glitch-skips, but I think the actual image quality is shittier (I watched both on my phone, and this one looked much better).

  • check out my videos! pour soul shaking poetry and subcribe if you like thanks :)

    god bless

  • This is such a cryptic poem but I understand the concept... it's about the stereotypical modern day rapper destroying the mind of the posteriors of generation x.... I enjoyed this a lot because I love hip hop and I know what real hip hop is and I've been infuriated by those ruining hip hop.

  • jibber jabber jibber jabber is alli here

  • I saw him with the Mars Volta in 03 in SF.

  • Motherfuckers better realize..

  • @CaliSourDiesel WORD

  • @CaliSourDiesel Best bit.

  • Can somebody please explain WTF this guy just said, without being pretentious?

  • @thetruth27391

If it doesn't mean anything to you already, how could anyone make it do so?

  • @thetruth27391 He is saying that the black/human race is operating way below their intellectual and creative capability because of the mediocrity fed to them. He is calling for elevation to higher consciousness through art and culture in the present so that we can shape the future. He is looking to those who have gone before us (the names he called) as proof of the type of greatness for which we should aim. It is a call to reject that which does not elevate the human condition.

  • I say black/human because I am not quite sure if he is talking about one or the other or both. And could someone please shed some light on "four little girls" ?

  • @kurvs2

there is a line in there about 'every so-called race gender sexual orientation' etc

so not only is it not about the 'black race', it implicitly denies the existence of such a thing.

the line about every per-son as a being of sound puts forward the idea that humans can be defined through creativity. which is a sort of etymology joke on the origin of the word 'person' from the ancient greek 'persona' which was to do with those actors' masks

    per-son... 'of sound'

  • @loof000 dude

  • It annoys me when people start clapping in the middle of a complicated message because those people are obviously not keeping up with, or dissecting the words.

They hear a bunch of worlds nicely placed together and get all excited.

People need to learn how to STFU and listen.

  • there's a version where h e performs this poem, and just before he says 'motherfuckers better realise', he goes into a quick explanation of how he's using the term motherfucker not as a casual curseword, but as a reference to those who desecrate the feminine, matriarchal, and truthful. It just proves he's not putting words in for the sake of it.

  • this poet is great he is deep and way too much for people of today to understand the complex thoughts of poetry.

  • GOT DAMN

  • This is allowable use of profanity

  • Ogun, Obatala!
