Lordpipweed: these are an infantry regiment who fight in Afghanistan for 6months and then come back and protect the queen for 6months. So Fuck' you, you stupid little Cunt
@LewisHamiltonRules loool hhaha yeh right, whatever u say mate. these guards are just failures who arent man enough to actually serve their country by being in the war, so they just stand around london marching up and down like prats. they are nothing more than a performoing monkey. i would beat them up
@LordPipweed Are you retarded? They all get a chance to serve in afghan. PS. I`d pay some good money to see you try beat up one of these guys - good-luck with that.
@LordPipweed I cant tell if you're a troll or an idiot, I'll educate you anyway, these men are all serving soldiers, they have all served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.
these "guards" are so lame and pathetic, if they want to represent their country why not go and fight in the war. oh no they cant, they are too pussy so instead they dress up like clowns and stand around the street for tourists to take pictures of and make fun of lmao, they might aswell get a job in the circus for fucks sake
Tradition isnt a problem if you dont consider tradition a problem, its the countries cultural mark. We should all respect people in their countries, wether in the depth of Africa or the depth of UK.
What is the role of the guards? I've never been to England so I'd like to know what they do, aside from guarding. lol. I guess I'm asking what the difference is in them and the police.
@StrangeCognitivism Well for a start, the 'Guard' regiments are regiments within the British Army and thus COMPLETELY different to the Police. Second, they are still full-time front line regiments and have fought in every major conflict Britain has been involved in (Obviously regiments like the Coldstream Guard, Welsh Guard, etc are infantry where as the Mounted Divisions ((Cavalry)) are armoured Recon divisions). Though for the most part their roll is ceremonial, they are STILL guards.
@Byron10301 Byron, while I don't pretend to be an expert on this subject I may have an answer for you. According to the liner notes from a 1989 recording of the Band of the Coldstream Guards, the piece you're referring to, the air 'Non Pui Andrai' from the "Marriage of Figaro", is a Regimental Slow March for The Coldstream Guards. It is thought to have been introduced as the Regimental Slow March in 1805.
The Irish, Welsh, Scots and Grenadier Guards, also have their own unique slow march.
@pbegley99 ..They salute the Royal Crest on the gate to their left. On the way-in you can sometimes see a Sergeant-Major look to his right as he heads past it. I guess it is symbolic of saluting the Monarch when She isn't present.
@TheCatBilbo There's sopposed to be a story about that, how a monarch watched the parade EVERY day and the officer in front would turn his head to the window where the king stood as they passed. The day after the king died, the officer automatically turned to the window and swore he saw the king there, watching him.
the first rank to go in the guy on the far left has no clue how to do a slow march his just limping foward and nearly lost the pace lol othe than that good dressing ;)
@kakompo The guards are allowed to defend them selves. So if you slapped a guard you would probably end up with the butt of his rifle jammed into your teeth. :)
@PingeyPongey That sounds really painful.. a gun butt jammed in your teeth. Obviously i wouldn't try slapping a guard. NO....theyare holding the weapon not me ;)
I've seen one video where a palace guard slapped a tourist because he kept mocking him. I thought that was well done.
@kakompo haha, if you intimidate them or slap them which is classed as assault they are aloud to do pretty much want they want. There a higher authority than the police here so i wouldn't go near them mate :D
@blobymr092 Well thank you for explaining it to me . It was some rumor I heard. I am coming to London for the 2012 Olympics ( and I would NOT try that anyway) I am more sensible than that.

kakompo 3 years ago 2
haha no. I'm pretty sure they would move if you slapped them.
kahcrahnella 3 years ago 10
I thought so too. They are trained guards and they would surely use physical force against anyone who tries to cause bodily harm to them.
