I have a friend in my battalion who just came back from serving in the Korean Army. He told me that they were trained to hold off the North Koreans for about 3 weeks. When I asked him why just 3 weeks, he told me it was because that's how long it would take us to get there and help them out.

Is this true?

(And by us I mean the U.S)

I'm just curious as to if this is true or not.

@wasabi622 uhh well officially, south korea is declared as a nation that is capable of defending itself from enemies (North Korea and what not), and that is why most of the US troops based in Korea have been pulled out. South Korea w/o any help from its allies have 2nd largest Marine Corps. in the world and 6th strongest overall military power. But yes, the US & Korea allie is biggest none-NATO allies. So w/e happens in Korea, the US will aid upon request.

Yet, South Korea have the latest technology and they cn self produce weapons and artilaries, while North Korea basically buy off other countries. Difference is while North Korea have to illegally smuggle weapons and sell to terrorists around the world, South Korea can produce its own weapons and sell legally in conventions. US and Korea and other allies entered the war in response to the request from the South Vietnam. They needed assistance fighting the North so other countries replied by sending troops. If you want to ask for the repayment of the war damage, u should ask ur own government.

South Korea is only asian country that deployed Navy to Africa to protect cargo ships from pirates. And South Korea is still in arm race with the north, so we are very careful on sending too much to Iraq, Afghan and other battlefields where our allies are fighting in. In Iraq, the US military train Iraqi soldiers, but in Korea, we train together as allies. 90% of Korean troops use K-1, K-2 series which are Korean rifles, unlike most of the world where they heavily rely on AK-47 and M-16.
