i would like it better without the audience laughter actually. and then it'd have to minimize the silence where the laugh track would be. personally i think the laugh track plays at inappropriate times sometimes. like they'll be playing WoW and the audience just laughs. and im just sitting there like ":D They're playing wow! I love wow!"

@NeoTranshuman And just as has been done in TV for all of time, they do this process called "editing," you've probably never heard of it. Well, by the time they actually nail a scene the audience isn't laughing as hard as all those times they've fucked up during the scene, so they take laughter from some places and put it in others. So if you're saying, by not using a laugh track, they don't take recorded laughter and place it artificially, you're sadly mistaken.

Oh my god, the complete and utter tonal shifts this show undergoes without a laugh track are absolutely astounding.

It really makes every single character look like an awkward, psychologically damaged loser. And not in a funny way, in a depressing way.

every show does it anyway, but most are far better at doing it subtlety.

take the inbetweeners for example, it has changed camera angles usually to one of the character's faces, nobody wold ever laugh if they weren't given prompts, even when someone tells a joke to your face they leave a pause to laugh don't they.

So CBS had Penny make a bad joke, played some laugh track noise to make the intentionally poor joke seem more amusing, and then proceeded to try and make a joke out of how bad the joke was. *Shaking my head...*

In a nutshell, network television has the most cliche and overly campy writing. The sheep that love to have rehashed jokes spoon fed to them love this stuff.

haha thanks for the suggestions dude; I've seen Curb and I'm a big fan of Always Sunny. Haven't seen East Bound and Down but I've heard some really positive things about it. I just thought it was funny how much more familiar and awkward the scenarios are without the canned audience. I guess it's a type of humour that doesn't translate well to major networks without a laugh track.
