  • neat

  • the piper's despair is a wonderful tune! shame I didn't know it... especially because I'm a despairing piper xD

  • Brillian ornaments!. The tempo is just fine.

  • quelle vitesse d'exécution d'un standard de musique celtique, merci

  • Legend.

  • i learned that tune on the fiddle :P must try it on the flute too haha

  • I WANT ONE OF THOSE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Amazing

  • beautiful technique, fantastic feel for the sound of this music

  • I'm interested in this playing and traditional ornamations.

Why is 19C flute used on Irish music ?

  • Originally, because when metal flutes came, the wooden flutes became cheap and irish folks could afford to get them more easily. Nowdays, the reason is that the conical bore, the smaller holes and the material gives that darker and warm sound we're mad about, and with the open holes you get more freedom, also for ornamentations (as long as you don't play tunes in strange keys)

  • Thank you for your reply and I understood that well.

I also play wooden conical flute. it's 18C flute replica made by myself.

  • Ronan Nice playing Mach weiter so ---slan --pat

  • Amazing! Interesting technique... 5*

  • sounds better than a normal flute, and that comes from a flute player xD

  • That was beautiful, I especially liked the final portion of the piece.

  • wonderful

  • i think if he slowed down we'd be able to enjoy his brill ornamentation better !

  • @Quentin0000000000 that is very true, they are perfectly executed but some people whos ears arent well trained might not be able to make sense of it. However i do love the sort of edge the fast tempo gives the piece.

  • @Quentin0000000000 He is not playing particularly fast - well within the normal range for reels - set dancers would likely want it faster! That's a good, steady pace if you concentrate on the main beats and work out the metronome BPM equivalent. Thing about well played Irish music is that the ornamentation and rhythm give an illusion of break-neck speed. One common result is that non-Irish folk learning tunes tend to play way too fast without the lift, rhythm and lilt..... and sound dire!
