@OkinawaShorinryu sorry. He just told me he thought it was a different video we were talking about. He said it's "some guy in Okinawa". Mystery solved. lol
@Koryuhoka He moves a little different than Melchor, but from that time period I don't know. I sent a message to GM Kise's through his web page asking if anyone there knew, but whoever handles his web site does not ever reply, meybe they can't read English.
Do you know who he studied under? He performs this much like Grandmaster Soken taught. This clip is also in the video 'Hohan Soken - The Life of a Grandmaster'. My favorite kata too.
i met sensei nishime in person and i took a few seminars with him! he also promoted me to a junior black belt in weapons! its truly an amazing experience!!! now hes 60 something and he moves 100x faster than i do! he has a dojo in ohio somewhere if you can find it
What I should have said was this version of Kusanku is very close to the Matsumura Orthodox version. His speed points to a Matsumura or Matsubayshi stylist. He may be Matsubayshi, but this is the best example of old style Kusanku I've seen on the web. You should be happy I'm giving the dude props, tough guy. What's up with the derogatory remark? You think you know me? Check yourself... You know the rest.
Nevermind about Mssr. Krunknstein... he's an under-informed, opinionated ass. I'm more interested in how anyone on this list is associated with Nishime-sensei?
The best performance of Kusanku I've seen on the net. He is a Matsumura Seito Shorin Ryu Karate Jutsu stylist. This is a look back at the old style way of performing kata. Exactly the way my sensei taught kata. Not too much hip yet not leg or shoulder locked. Execution is smooth, crisp, quick and forceful.
Applications become apparent when you train in this way. He didn't need to add any flips or flying kicks, yet you could tell he had athleticism, coordination, great balance and could probably kick your ass if need be. A very good combination of biomechanics, physics and reflexive action. Very relaxed power. The gendai karate guys need to take note. This is real karate. Superb!!!
I just recently heard from an old friend that Master Soken had a student by the name Nishime, but I still do not know if this is him.

I watched 3 secs of this footage and knew it wasn't Shihon Nishime.

@OkinawaShorinryu - well, everyone I know to ask doesn't know, all the others have passed on. Maybe Hanshi Kise knows.

@OkinawaShorinryu why don't you believe Nishime Sensei knows who it is?

Could this be Melchor Tecson? I would not know so I'm just suggesting names. Whoever he is, his kata is great.

The timing and flow was facinating. Nothing like what i think I have to do for my grading this coming weekend, but an education to watch regardless.
