I did recently mail American Audio about any updates to the player firmware but never heard back. I'll need to post a topic on the ADJ forum.
As for lock-ups, I have only suffered a couple of times and I think this was down to corrupt MP3 files. I have not suffered any recently. You need to run them through a checker program for this as you will not know otherwise. Corrupt headers etc can cause problems with hardware players but work fine with software.
Mine too is only wrote "SD" then i think wickedsoundz your version of the SDJ-1 are newer than our owns, probably with the new firmware upgrade but i have upgrade mine but i wasnt have anytimes to try an SDHC yet.
Contacted American Audio reguarding the new update and here is what they had to say: "We do have a hardware update that will allow your SDJ1 to play your MP3 files from High capacity SD cards. This has to be performed by one of our qualified techs. If you would like this update contact our customer service dept. at 800-322-6337. The update is 29.99. you cover the incoming shipment and he will cover the cost of return." Practice-n-Enjoy!
Ive been doing some serious research on this product. I called american audio and they say for a small fee and you have to send in your sdj1 in they will upgrade it to take the sdhc card.... Ive got one comming in in the next day or two and i called and from what they say as of 45 days ago they were only sending out sdj1s with the sdhc capability.. if you would like more info the # is 1-800-322-6337 they are very helpfull and i hope i helped out so practice and enjoy.
Sorry that your's is not one the updated versions.
I have been given good insider info that you owners in the US will soon be able to get the SDJ-1 updated by ADJ for a small fee. Give ADJ a call to find out when they will be doing this.
Well there you were the one that started me thinking....so i have decided to go for this type of player, Trouble as always so much on the market, with a lot of media players coming out. BUT i thought if i was going to get one with a hardrive wouldnt i want to back up on sd anyway probably so...firstly with the HD is that working in both ports? and have you found any negatives cheers jearley2424 jason earley
As you will see in the follow up, the SDHC cards work fine with my unit. If you are buying one, make sure that it has the logo between the slots or it will probably be the earlier version of firmware.
The HC card works in both slots. I have tested with 2 cards and they seem to work perfectly fine.
I am now in the process of screening all my audio files, dumping the rubbish & cherry picking the good stuff.
Treat it like the sticker means it has sdhc and buy a 16gb or 8gb. If they don't work get in contact with american dj and enquire on why you have that sticker on it and how you were mislead to believe it had sdhc support. But if the firmwire is a different version to everyone then chances are your a winner.
thats brill news paul. SDHC is really good, imagine 32gb in each port, thats would be more than enough 4 me.If its come out the same factory and the only change is the ports and firmwire than i guess they can change it easily and get it out there. You might own a product that hasn't even had a press release yet! or even better, not had to extra 4 the new version!
Yeah, its strange that, if it is now SDHC compatible, nothing has been said. This feature alone would make the unit far more attractive to potential buyers.
Then again, it would probably annoy those who's unit is not compatible.
It could be that the firmware version I have is compatible but I cannot check as I don't have any HC cards yet.
i have a american audio sdj1 and mine has the hc logo and my frame vesion18.21just like to say it's a awsome player
the only thing is the player sometimes locks up but all i do is resart the unit and it works fine then i take a laptop aswell just for back up

Yeah that's new. Mine only says SD. Wonder if it's part of the Firmware upgrade? I'll email Tom at American Audio to find this answer for you :)

Thanks Brian. I've not had the chance to try an SDHC card yet.
It will be interesting to see the reply from American Audio.
