if they refused to clap they wont be invited next time [its all like they were a rent a crowd] thier 'payoff' is being seen to have been there [it validates thier own mental supiriour-ority over those who wernt invited [or couldnt get in ] it means they are something more than they were before[or ever hoped to be ]

Well,typical sense gratification aka i will suffer/enjoy/be neutral , because i will get something from it .
