There's way more support in Ireland than most if not all other Western countries. If you're strung out in UK or US for instance you're fucked! Here you got 188 euro's per week, rent, clothes, medical etc. provided you have an address! And ANYONE can get some sort of address, pretending you live in a friends house or something if you try hard enough!
Well it's all very good talking about "coming off heroin" but the waiting list (& I speak from personal experience) is FIVE months. I was told that some people have to wait 18 months. BTW, I can verify this.

Im a Law Student in Dublin and it shocks me how Dublin is so divided in terms of wealth. Take Claridon Street, on one side of the road we have Louis Vuitton whereas opposite you will always see the homeless. Imagine how hard it must be for them to see a customer in Louis Vuitton spending €1K-€2K on a handbag!? In a first world country it disgusts me that homlessness is even a reality in our nation. Convicted criminals have the right to food and shelter but those who need it most are forgoton

The fact of the matter is chances are there are a multitude of free programs to help homeless people get back on their feet but the majority of homeless are life long drug addicts and INSANE...and they are their own worst enemies.

I worked in the city centre for 4 months a few years ago, in that time, I saw a drug abuser walking around christ church with a golf club, another threatened to throw me into the liffey, and finally I had a small penknife held to me at a bus stop at 5:30 in the evening on dame street, the drug abusers have a diminished Conscience when they need a hit

I would hardly call them worthless, merely they've given up hope of a normal life due to their experiences. Until you know what they've gone through, DON'T judge them. The fact of the matter is chances are there are a multitude of free programs to help homeless people get back on their feet but the majority of homeless are life long drug addicts and INSANE...and they are their own worst enemies.
