Toyota constructed an auto plant on part of the 1,500 acres of free land given to them in Georgetown, Kentucky. The auto plant was built by a Japanese steel company using Japanese steel. The U.S. government granted a “special trade zone” so that Toyota could import auto parts from Japan duty-free. Financing was handled by Mitsui Bank of Japan. Total federal and state grants and incentives exceeded $100 million. These subsidies, of course, were courtesy of your tax dollars.
Yet They do it in USA, illegal donation came up during a parliamentary budget committee meeting last week. Maehara initially said he didn't know about it, but later acknowledged that his office accepted a 50,000 yen ($590) donation from a longtime supporter, an ethnic Korean resident of Japan whom he had known since childhood, and apologized.Japan's political funding law prohibits lawmakers from accepting donations from foreigners, even if they are Japanese residents or born in Japan
I've been in a really bad accident before and the times I re-told what happened to someone....I NEVER ever had to read it off a piece of paper. I was able to tell my family, friends, doctor, my insurance agent and the insurance adjuster the same story without cue cards or notes and I was able to get the story straight. I didn't need a cheat sheet whatsoever to recall the events.
DRIVING ISN'T A RIGHT! its a dangerous sport that never should've been so popularized... you talk about the car malfunctioning.. what about the idiots driving it.. YOU decided to put your life in that car, and now you're crying about it. nothing horrible even happened. btw: you say shame on a great company like toyota for being so greedy,, yet, just how much are you crying over your settlement?! we all see it.
hahaha.. dude they found out this lady was lying and was behind on payments. also... she sold that exact same lexus she believed was "shameful" to a family without telling them about the dangers. if you think the car's so dangerous, don't sell it to a young family with kids. bitch!
yeah, and this green fat bitch confessed that she was bullshitting here on TV, and apologized like a little dog!
Shame on you Americans! YOU Americans have absolutely NO PRIDE at all! and YOU Americans are always trying to pick on Asian people including the Japanese products!!

Toyota went to the hearing EMPTY-HANDED if you can believe it! All Toyota could say is that it is "confident" that there is no electronic cause in the SUA phenomenon. Hmmmm...Toyota also says sludge is OWNER NEGLECT related. Yet, it has NO DATA to prove this! It has tarred and feathered its loyal Toyota customers who own its defective sludgemobiles! Way to dupe the public, Toyota!
Mrs. Smith's testimony on SUA (see Tears, Frustration, and Anger) is totally credible. Toyota is VINDICTIVE as it tries to ruin the reputations of Dr. Gilbert and Sean Kane, who both have scientific data to back their claims. As per the last Toyota Recall Hearing on May 20, Toyota did not produce ONE SHRED of proof of any real scientific data!
Remember General Toyoda in WW2 took no prisoners. The Toyoda Family is responsible for many American life's. They thought they would replace the D for a T and everyone would forget their war crimes. Toyoda = Toyota.
Saved by god, LMFAO, tell me another fairytale apart from her story and that. Why didn't she call 911? She also sold the vehicle, well who's the killer now? The automaker who was unaware of the defect until the fallout, or the lady who CLEARLY knew that it "almost killed her", this lady is nothing more than an attention whore like James Sikes, who needs to be put under the microscope. Good job Mrs. Smith, you almost fooled me for a minute there.
I think this woman is out to lunch. All available gears? including neutral? and the car still wouldn't stop? I doubt that. Then the vehicle tried to restart itself...give me a break. This sounds like another Sykes story. Bogus in every sense of the word.
your retarded, the transmission gears are controlled by valves and electronics, not by the shift lever. Under heavy acceleration the fluid dynamics can prevent shifting. I have had it happen during drag racing, which was fail. Always drag with a manual. If i remember correctly, fly by wire killed many pilots before the gov made them have redundant systems. Getting in a car that can get away from you is suicide.
READ THIS: toyota absolutely sucks, i mean i am so disgusted that they are failing to brake in the 21st century!! I just heard on the news that four people were on the highway in their Toyota when the car went out of control, accelerating to 120 mph and the brakes failing. They made a 911 call, and as they approached the intersection, you could hear their screams of terror. All four DIED in the accident that followed. For this, i will never forgive Toyota, no "apology" can save lost lives!!!!
many of our fellow Americans have died because of this lousy company Toyota, is that fair? Should brakes really be failing on cars in the 21st century? I mean can u imagine the terror of being on the highway when all of a sudden your brakes fail and you can't stop?? I HATE Toyota, I'm never buying their brand or lexus again!
FAA safety cert standards cause Fly-By-Wire controls be built with triplex or quad redundant computers and very carefully designed software to catch itself from run-away. Single event upsets come from space parties, and even static electricity and mechanical connections. We need similar design rigor required in auto before someone builds Fly By Wire steering and covers up the safety problems by blaming the victims.
I looked into more than 150 cases of unintended acceleration in the 1980s, many of which became the subject of lawsuits against automakers. In those days, Audi, like Toyota today, received by far the most complaints. (I testified in court for Audi on many occasions. I have not worked for Toyota on unintended acceleration, though I did consult for the company seven years ago on another matter.)
wow... this lady is hella stupid. lol trying to stop a front wheel drive car with emergency brakes which stop on the rear wheels. They should call it rear brakes for dumb asses like her.
How much money did General Motors and Ford pay this woman to make this story up, cant Americans get over this obsession of being the best in the world for one minute and also get over hating Japanese people it was along time ago!!!!!
oh shut, TOYOTA AND LEXUS AND DONE!! D-O-N-E !! BURIED IN PAST!! I will never EVER buy any of those for any reason, whether me, my wife, children, read my lips: NEVA!!!!
you seem to know nothing about mechanism of trans. no matter how electronics fails, putting a shift lever into N or R , the car never go forward . even if engine is full throttled.
those who know even a little about structure of car could understand it and find that this woman told lies.
This Xian is a liar. They do not have the brains to drive. Car's in reverse or neutral do not go forward. It's a wonder she even remembers to breathe. Maybe that is her silly, useless God doing that for her.
The Lexus sedan driven by Rhonda Smith, who testified in Congress Tuesday about a harrowing incident of sudden acceleration, is still on the road, according to the National Highway traffic Safety Administration.
In fact, the new owners of the luxury ES350 sedan have reported 27,000 miles trouble-free with the vehicle, according to a NHTSA spokeswoman. Mrs. Smith and her husband sold the vehicle after the incident, in which she thought she might die.
AP should be looking into the false complaints that Kane submitted in his report such as FOI requests from politicians, letters from lawyers etc - see the video "False NHTSA complaints found in Kane's Report" on carquestions
Her story may be taken seriously in the United States, but it will actually help the world realize how unfairly Toyota has been bullied and accused by the media.
@LatentRecognition .. exactly.. the e-brake is cable operated.. nothing electronic about it.... if she pulled it... something would've happened... she would've slowed down or spun out.... what a big fat liar..

Exactly, she certainly thinks that tragedy only applies to her.
If I were the the owners now I'd see if some ambulance chaser could get me some compensation from her, after all she knowingly sold them a dangerous car.
To disprove that she would have to admit she was lying an then Toyota's lawyers would have a go, bet they don't chase after any ambulances!!
funny how the AP deleted my comment... let me type it again.. so this lady states that she drove 6 miles going 100 mph while shifting from drive to neutral to reverse, even pulling the e-brake and nothing happened? I find this very hard to believe.. plus.. she was doing all this and also was able to call her husband on her cell phone?? That's just amazing ppl... Looks like GM(Government Motors) is paying these people to lie their asses off..
The federal safety agency followed up with the new owners last week. A NHTSA spokeswoman said "they have had no problems with the Lexus since they bought it with less than 3,000 miles on the car..."

If Toyota takes a beating from congress who will benefit? Maybe the number 2 car maker GM, oh wait they're owned by the US government, no conflict there. But the media would report the truth wouldn't they? It's not as if when Toyota got a bad name they would have to buy advertising to counteract it. Who sells the advertising anyway? All I can suggest is read this, it's the truth. Search car and driver how to deal with unintended acceleration.
i'm confused...she put the car in reverse? if she really did this not only would she have left the gear box shattered all over the road but she would have gone flying through the front window. she probably accidentally flipped on the cruise control and became flustered and panicked. what's sad is that she probably really believes this is what happened and unfortunately toyota is too nice to say anything. they just wanna get in and get out before the media can spin a story to make them look worse
on top of that if she truly believed the car was malfunctioning then how come she sold it to someone else. and if she thought toyota did her wrong and felt so strongly about then explain why she bought a tundra to replace the car she sold. something doesn't add up
That would be FUCKING AWESOME!!!! Pretty easy too. Take her claims + the inspection report after her vehicle went to the shop = you are a fucking liar bitch = sued = laugh my ass off.
But against my imagination, the business week on Feb 25 says that Smith was using two sets of floor mats. They titled "The Toyota Witch Hunt". If Toyota really produces real problematic cars, then we already see millions of victims over the world.
What I personally imagine is that Smith put "cruse control" ( by her intention or without ), and did not realize WHY her lexus kept acceralating. Then she was in panic and stepped acceralation pedal instead of brake pedal. After she stepped the brake pedal, a cruse control went off, and car slowed down. (not a power of GOD) It is likely a typical biginner's mistake. I think Toyota wants to say this, but cannot.
We own Toyotas and they have been good vehicles.I havent made up my mind whether this story is true or not but there are problems.
I will refuse to buy a vehicle that has all computer controlled steering, foot feed, and transmission shifting-etc.That seems to be whats coming so I'll just be driving older stuff. Talking on the phone at 100 mph would be easy in some western states and nearly impossible elsewhere.
Can you afford to wear a mobile telephone in the situation that grew tense that 100 miles per an hour are over?Pretending to cry is admirable execution.
Nowadays many local employees are losing their jobs! Those politicians are a real cancer of US government. This kind of strategy is often used by US politicians. They are really dirty. This lady is most probably paid for her fake act. Shame on you,Smith. She is betraying all US citizens. But US government wants of course rebuilt GM that is why this kinf of negative campaign can be carried out. Is it healthy for economy and our benefit ?
Several news report this negative campaign against Toyota is organized by some US politicians. It's for their election targeting to aquire more support. They are not thinking about US citizens, but only for their reputation. Many US citizens are actually working in Toyota factories.

With taxpayer money my government bought a controlling share of G.M. and then got their prostitutes in the media to present their case and get the public behind efforts to destroy the reputation of Toyota and significantly reduce its market share, knowing that the shares of Government Motors would likely increase correspondingly. The additional income of its new company and fines likely to be levied against Toyota are going to make our insatiable government even richer.
How sad that Toyota representatives feel they need to apologize to our wretched Congress for alleged and exaggerated mechanical failures. The governments accusations against Toyota are still unsubstantiated, as is the testimony of the woman in this clip, and yet many have judged and condemned Toyota. Emotion-driven Americans tend to forget that accusation is not proof. Conviction depends upon evidence and due process of law.

In those days, Audi, like Toyota today, received by far the most complaints. (I testified in court for Audi on many occasions. I have not worked for Toyota on unintended acceleration, though I did consult for the company seven years ago on another matter.)

you seem to know nothing about mechanism of trans. no matter how electronics fails, putting a shift lever into N or R , the car never go forward . even if engine is full throttled.
those who know even a little about structure of car could understand it and find that this woman told lies.

Search car and driver how to deal with unintended acceleration.
lgryn 1 year ago
i'm confused...she put the car in reverse? if she really did this not only would she have left the gear box shattered all over the road but she would have gone flying through the front window. she probably accidentally flipped on the cruise control and became flustered and panicked. what's sad is that she probably really believes this is what happened and unfortunately toyota is too nice to say anything. they just wanna get in and get out before the media can spin a story to make them look worse
xXTrueBruinXx 1 year ago
on top of that if she truly believed the car was malfunctioning then how come she sold it to someone else. and if she thought toyota did her wrong and felt so strongly about then explain why she bought a tundra to replace the car she sold. something doesn't add up

But against my imagination, the business week on Feb 25 says that Smith was using two sets of floor mats. They titled "The Toyota Witch Hunt". If Toyota really produces real problematic cars, then we already see millions of victims over the world.
euronl1 1 year ago
What I personally imagine is that Smith put "cruse control" ( by her intention or without ), and did not realize WHY her lexus kept acceralating. Then she was in panic and stepped acceralation pedal instead of brake pedal. After she stepped the brake pedal, a cruse control went off, and car slowed down. (not a power of GOD) It is likely a typical biginner's mistake. I think Toyota wants to say this, but cannot.
euronl1 1 year ago
We own Toyotas and they have been good vehicles.I havent made up my mind whether this story is true or not but there are problems.
I will refuse to buy a vehicle that has all computer controlled steering, foot feed, and transmission shifting-etc.That seems to be whats coming so I'll just be driving older stuff. Talking on the phone at 100 mph would be easy in some western states and nearly impossible elsewhere.

The additional income of its new company and fines likely to be levied against Toyota are going to make our insatiable government even richer.
endzionism 1 year ago
How sad that Toyota representatives feel they need to apologize to our wretched Congress for alleged and exaggerated mechanical failures. The governments accusations against Toyota are still unsubstantiated, as is the testimony of the woman in this clip, and yet many have judged and condemned Toyota. Emotion-driven Americans tend to forget that accusation is not proof. Conviction depends upon evidence and due process of law.
