  • The Heart and Soul of America of Aviation to bad there going to lay off of 13,000 employees

  • Hey does anyone know where I can find a full version of this song?? I know its called engine by steve ford, but i can't find it anywhere. thanks

  • im colombian and i feel proud of my airline avianca because i work in it but when i read the story of american airlines their good and bad moments and commercials like this they make me feel everyday that i took the best decisition when i decided study commercial aviation AMERICANS I ADMIRE YOU FOR YOUR AIRLINE, FEEL PROUD OF IT from colombia.

  • "Engine" by Steve Ford. I wish they'd run on the 10th anniversary.

  • GREAT ad campaign!

  • American was in a tough position after 9/11 - how the heck do you say "We're sorry we let a bunch of guys with box cutters use our planes to kill 3,000 people because we were lax in our security"? This is about the best possible commercial that they could after 9/11 - and yes, the closing scene does bring a lump to my throat.

    Well done.

  • I love USA....

  • hello

    I just discover this advertisement.

Would you please who is the author of the music ?

thanks a lot for your help

    Thierry

  • @titiraf1 That makes two of us...I've been wondering for months now who the artist is, and no one seems to know :-(

  • @w5pda It's "Engine" by Steve Ford. I wish they'd run these commercials on the 10th anniversary.

  • @gayschloffen Thank you...it caught my attention because it has "elements" from both Enya and Kitaro :-)

  • 0:41 That runway over the traffic reminds me of O'Hare. Although I live near Chicago's Midway Airport, I've seen some of the action at O'Hare and recall that type of runway. I wonder if segment was indeed taped at O'Hare.

  • @germanname1990 it is o'hare

  • @germanname1990 it probably was as that looks like chicago and american has a hub there

  • The song is haunting me (in a good way) does anybody know the name of the artist??

  • Epic! Well done AA. Am an AAdvantage frequent traveler/flyer. One of the few carriers which still retains the same colors & logo for quite some time now. It works, recognizable and it sells, don't ever change it! Those Silver Bird Luxury Liners are eye catching and the name/title SAY IT ALL.Remember when BAs art tails flopped, ANZ can't get their Koru right, ACs maple leaf is always a different tone/shade & now JAL is going back to it's old crane logo. It's good being American!

  • It never stops amazing me how internet fights can erupt on any video. YouTube a nursery rhyme I bet you'll find a fight. Great commerical btw.

  • Merger with TWA (More like a buy out) and rising gas prices after 9/11.....and they are still operating.

  • My favorite livery design of any airline. The red white and blue stripe across the fuselage is so patriotic

  • worst airline out there.

  • But they let hijacker crash the American Flight 11 & 77 into the World Trade Center and Pentagon, so this is called an airline for the nation?

  • @Serganer Come again? they 'let' hijackers fly the planes into the towers and pentagon. let me reiterate what it means to hijack. "successful, forceful and unlawful breach and takeover of the aircraft with malicious intent" No one on the planes or in the airline saw this coming. and we're damned as hell preventing another 9/11. No one "let" hijackers do anything. The fact that these acts happened and American is still flying is proud to the spirit of what it means to be AMERICAN. we don't bow!

  • @adams8pjoy I'd give my life up before I even let a hijaker take over a plane

  • @adams8pjoy Excuse me, but a corporate decision to hire private security at dirt cheap rates with lax security procedures that allow or miss knives is "letting" them hijack planes.

  • WHAT DOES POST 9/11 mean

  • @Emirates62 after September 11th.

  • I love American Airlines and I always fly with them and my family

  • Propaganda for an unsustainable system. I don't buy it.

  • @byrongsmith Commie

  • @DYLAV8R - It's not only communists who think this system is unsustainable. Perhaps you might like to expand your range of insults by learning of just how many people think this kind of advertising is ideologically corrupt.

  • Propaganda for an unsustainable system. I don't buy it.

  • beautiful. just beautyful

  • Well, I hated the way American treated ex-TWA members, but I love the post 9/11 ad, just because they bear the name American. I'm also working on an FSX version.

  • I'll tell ya, I fly UA and not really American anymore, but I have to admit, WELL DONE American, whoever was their advertising exec. on these commercials deserves an AA Terminal named after them. Keep up the good work AA, and don't change the logo!

  • United States of America!!!!!

Freedom, Joy, Happiness, Wealth, Every Country Loves Us =)

Even thought they hate us know!!! They will love us later =)

    United States of America!!!!!

  • great ad, sweet but sad, sadder still is how much management makes and how little the ground and cabin crews make.

  • I remember watching this commercial when I was 8yrs old after 9/11....For some reason I always had memories of it but when I saw it again here on youtube it almost made me cry.......

    Thnx

  • Possibly the best advertisement for American Airlines ever made. It's amazing what people can do in the face of adversity.

  • I used to be a flight attendant with AA! I love these 2 commercials. I remember when they came out shortly after the terrible tragedy of 9/11

  • AA is cheap look at there history i sometimes pick up Cargo at AA it takes forever

  • Ok, true Cathay is more luxourious and safe, BUT only because it flies less than AA. I flew form DFW to Orlando International, flying an MD-80.Small plane, great pilot.

    Go American.

  • Wow that gave me the chills... very moving!!

  • What's the song on the background?

  • What's this song?

  • @mataix93 - the song is a variation of Enya's "Storms in Africa"

  • @KCFlyer2 The song is an original piece made especially for the American Airlines "Way of Life" and "Engine" commercials. The soundtrack was composed by Chicago based Steve Ford Music.

The track was eventually reused for the TWA/AA merger and More Room Throughout Coach "Effort" commercials.

  • I think this was rather boring for an airline ad...

  • @mikrokupu ... your life is boring, LoL!

  • I REALLY LOVE THIS VIDEO!!!!

  • i have flown on many airlines and american airlines is one of my favorite least to say if you are in the s-80 and you hit turbulence the plane does shake a little too much.

  • I flew from PHL to ORD and back and i had a good experience on AA with the S-80. that S-80 is a beast. I love the song they have on this clip as well.

  • I love American Airlines because they bear the name AMERICAN.

  • Any person who says AA is the best hasn't been out of the US.

  • that is true the national american airlines flights are alright but when youi get to internatinonal they treat you pretty good. but when you et to the european airlines now they treat you like gold. But i stilll like American Airlines though!

  • Well AA is the worst airline ever. you lose luggage, delays, don't know how to take care of luggage, and terrible food and entertainment. Trust me!

  • I completely agree with you.

  • FLY NORTHWEST NEXT TIME

  • Never flown Northwest but fly Jetblue or Continental. There the best!

  • Jetblue out of JFK, you're nuts because I've seen what Jetblue's pax look like and the terminal needs renovations their check in staff sucks, but if you want a really bad airline try Southwest

  • Check it out, maybe you flown with them from JFK before 2008.dont you alsom mean LAX?

  • Yea it was 2007 on Jetblue from JFK to PHX but I got bumped off

  • You mean Delta?

  • Delays aren't always the fault of the airline but have to do with air traffic and weather. As far as losing luggage prove that they are any worse than any other airline. I'd take their pilots any day of the week over some of these small start up airlines like JetBlue.

  • I have and yet I still think AA is one of the best. Cathay Pacific sucks, even though everyone says they're so great. I hate those damn women who think they're everything just because they look good.

  • Cathay pacific sucks? Ok why are they constantly rated in the top 3 airlines in the world? Yet I have NEVER seen AA in the top 10.

  • Well, I've had several bad experiences with them. And yes, they were bad. Some crew members were excellent, others not at all. And flying for 2 hours with turbulence from the Sea of Othoskt to Alaska en route to JFK and not being allowed to use the bathroom is just torture. The pilots should have climbed higher, but they did not. I hate CX and regret flying with them. It's a personal opinion, but I strongly hate them.

  • You are aware you can't always out climb turbulence N750AN? I bet you think AA would have guaranteed you a smooth ride right?

  • You're missing the point. You climb higher to get out of the turbulent patch. The 777 was at 35,000 feet- it easily could have gone up to around 40,000 quite safely.

And your question is just a tad silly. When I flew AA 168 recently from NRT to JFK, we hit a really rough patch of air right upon taking off from NRT. And why the heck are we having this pointless discussion. You can love that damn Cathay Pacific Airways all you want and I'll hate their guts for the rest of my life.

  • No actually you are missing the point, there are numerous reasons they didn't climb higher...one being other traffic. Also as I stated before climbing higher does not necessarily equate to a smooth ride. I have over 10,000 hours now and I have learned some times you can have a smooth ride at 15000' and then rough as hell at 35,000'. How many accidents has your glorious AA had? That's right a LOT. How many has Cathay had? almost NONE...I think I value my life to much to get on AA.

  • Traffic? What bullshit! How many flights does CX have? How many does AA have? Which airline's older?

I don't know why you started this pointless argument, but I'll fly AA for many years to come I'm proud to be their customer. They've served me well and will continue to do so.

  • Comment removed

  • You actually think AA is better than Cathay? haha ok, It's quite clear you know nothing about aviation if you think that.

  • To end this discussion: You can fly on whatever airline you want. I'll fly on AA and its fellow oneworld carrier, JAL, when visiting Asia. JAL > AA >>>>> CX. I refused to be served by snobbish Hong Kong flight attendants. And I'm no racist because while I was raised and born in the US, my family's from Hong Kong and mainland China.

  • AA is safer according to the statistics found at airsafe on the web. AA has logged over 25 million flights to Cathay's less than 1 million. So if you take frequency into consideration, which is a must here, then AA is more safe!

  • ya whatever

  • that's funny.

you think AA is better than Cathay....

AA is like another word for "Always Awful"

Cathay is like one of the best airlines around!!

  • @GCS1992 I love Hong Kong and Cathay are five stars. But you simply cannot compare both airlines, completely different business models.

  • Airlines cant cotrol the weather or where they can fly they are told what to do by ATC !duhhh Only a fool wud jude an airline by the weather i mean such stupidy

  • You're the stupid one here. No one's judging an airline by the weather. I merely said that the crew should have requested ATC clearance.

  • And I never stated that Cathay controls the weather. LEARN TO READ!

  • less a the cheek now good man , im well able to read u just go back to stupid excuses fo choosing airlines ;)

  • Do you know how to use good grammar and spelling? Get a damn dictionary. It's free online!!!!

  • Because they haven't had deregulation like we've had in the US. Look up the Deregulation Act of 1978 and how it turned our air industry into a commodity. The people bitching about lack of amenities wouldn't have been able to afford to fly back in the glory days. You get what you pay for.

  • I know some AA employees that have 15 or more years working with the company and they said to my father in a conversation that working in AA today is a nightmare and todays AA ownership don"t follow the great things and the footsteps that C.R. Smith and Bob Crandall did for the company.

  • Of course. CR Smith and Bob Crandall really were remarkable and because of them, American was in a good state until the early 2000s. After Gerald Arpey (and 9/11), American just cut back too much. They're losing the support of their passengers and crew.

  • There will be a day that AA will be THE Airline that everybody wants to fly. Come on AMR think about changing the system of ownership and teamwork of Arpey and his Gang change the way do they work.

  • amazing

  • I AM THE BIGGEST AA FAN IN THE WORLD

  • It's completely true that AA sucks but Air Canada.... Never flown it or tried it. We just cant tell if Air Canada is #1.

  • The song is not "Storms in Africa". Anyone have any other Ideas.

  • It is that song but they remixed it.

  • I love the ending the most, its like the perfect backdrop and it just makes me wanna get on a plane and fly right now!

  • @brownguy222 said well my friend ! It's being up in the sky has no worries

  • 0:42 - Thats Chicago's O'Hare International.. You have cars passing on the side and train passing right under it.. :)

  • what is this song called and who sings it

  • Enya - Storms in Africa

  • One of the greatest airline commercials ever conceived!

"We ARE an airline that is proud to bear the name American."

  • I love this add and i love this airline i dont know why i have never flown them but i just like them !

  • where can i download tv commercials such as this one (besides here)

  • i like the shot at the end where it comes from the clouds thats very sexy for an airline

  • Excellent Advert...

  • i love that commercial you guys should put that on the tv

  • It's real...

These were actually created in response to 9/11.

  • great video

  • at 00:11 you cant see the wing on the plane

  • maybe, just maybe, because it's a 727......

  • Comment removed

  • Nope. It was an MD-80. American got rid of their 727s long before 2001

  • Sorry, sorry... I was thinking of United, and the nose/tail tip looks like a 727, my first time watching it I missed the lack of the air intake above the fuselage. Also, they've got a lot of clips in the video from other commercials before 2001, like the DC-10s. Good catch Dan!

  • Comment removed

  • yeah he is!

  • Awesome!!!!!! this is a great video, thanks!

  • anyone know where i can get the song in this video?

  • este comercial me encanta

  • "The strength of an airline is not represented by its employees, it is represented by the people behind the office door."

  • Well said. As a former airline employee I always tried to do my very best despite what the aholes behind the office doors were up to.

  • iv seen this about 50 times since u posted it to this day they shude put this back on the air theyed make so much cash then they cant take away bagage fee haha

  • and american airlines too =)

  • i luv the music =)

  • The nose of the first aircraft landing is a 727 but the tail is an MD-80. I wonder how they pulled that off? Safe flying to all!!

  • No, way too swept back to be an MD80's tail.

  • The S80 has two different tails featuring on different versions of the DC-9-8x. The difference is actually in the sweep, and I'm certain they have a healthy spattering of both given their acquisition of TWA (who acquired Ozark's MD80s) and RenoAir (Which had quite a few MD80s). You might notice it if you see a bunch of them in a row on the tarmac at DFW, it's very recognizable when six or seven of them are side x side and are of different configurations but the aerodynamics are largely the same.

  • LOve, love, LOVE American AirlineS!...That's the only way I choose to fly!.....DFW is my home airport, so It couldn't work out better!

  • wildcatsi i envy u and DFW, MIA, and ORD airports lol we need more AA at BOS. Jetblue and Delta dominate BOS right now... AA is third

  • I fly AA all the time out of BOS, they go where I need to go. My mother works at AA BOS, and they've had quite a few route reductions (Shannon and Manchester are gone, Paris and London have seen frequency hits, SJU's been reduced after the SJU bloodbath earlier this year, DFW and STL have been toned down, AE cut 35% of their destinations between FY06 and 07). Used to be much bigger, but there's talk of adding more routes (They've hired more agents, OPS has expanded), so keep watching!

  • American Airlines keeps me close with my Pop living in CA and me in Tokyo.

  • i think you blow...

  • American has a bunch of jerk employees, they blow, TWA all the way. O'Hare blows too

  • I agree, but I feel sorry for the good employees who are getting the shaft from management. American at O'Hare sucks. Nothing but the fatest, laziest, pilots I have ever seen. Believe me these guys blow each other

  • Nice ad. Simple-yet it really gets the point across.

  • American RULES

  • too right!

  • for everyone who is arguing about which airport the Boeing 767 is crossing the bridge at at 00:41, it is not O'Hare or Dallas Fort Worth. that shot was taken at Luis Munoz Marin Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

  • Is there a railroad that passes under the taxiway in the median of the highway at the San Juan airport, Matt?

  • yes, but i don't remember what Pyuerto Rico uses it for, seeing as how the last time i went was in 2004.

  • i've never been to that airport, but having taken the L many times to O'Hare, I can say that sure looks like O'Hare.

  • that bridge is for the a/c parked on the new terminal A, which will open soon and terminal B (Delta, USair, etc.)

  • Nope, I checked Google maps, looked at the sattelite view, and there is no rail line that passes down the median of the highway that passes under the taxiway. That is only at O'Hare.

  • no it is not, that is at JFK, i live 2 miles away from JFK and land there several times a year so i know what it looks like.

  • are there two sets of train tracks that run down the median of the highway under the taxiway at JFK? If not, then that has to be O'Hare.

  • It's DFW. I guarantee it.

  • nope, it's O'Hare - even the lamp posts along the highway are identical with what's at o'hare.

  • NOOOO its Boston Logan International....hahah jk, but yeah its either ORD or JFK

  • It's ORD. They did all their post-9/11 commercials at ORD. If you have a Jetnet login you can see what I'm talking about in their PR section. They do the vast majority of their PR at ORD, while DFW is the only place in the world where AA's training is done, and where corporate offices still reside. I don't know why, but it's just done that way.

  • ah. I;ll have to ask my brother for his jetnet login info :P.

Where under the PR Section is it?

Also may I ask how long have you worked for american?

  • Here's the definitive answer: it's a B767 crossing the Bravo bridge at ORD headed towards 32R. Look close - the roadway turns left after passing under the taxiway (at DFW the road is straight N/S through the airport), and 2 blueline trains pass each other in the dark track area in the center. This plane doesn't have the massive flap track fairings that the A300 has beneath its wings. I'm an AA S80 FO based DFW used to be based ORD - I've seen this view many times commuting in from my crashpad.

  • i love the shot of that 767 crossing the bridge at DFW, haha its cool to drive under those planes if you've ever been there.

  • that's not DFW, that's O'Hare. You can tell by the L train passing under the taxiway. Also, I believe that's an Airbus and not a 767.

  • Nope that is most defitently a 767.

  • No it is a 767

  • That could be the new Skylink system @ DFW!!!!!

  • can't be Skylink, because that opened around 2005, and this commercial was made some time after 2001. The intercity train that goes to DFW doesn't pass under any taxiways, so this in all likelihood is a shot of a 767 at O'Hare.

  • but it is O'Hare, not DFW.

  • haha wow i got a lot of responses to this comment

  • gotta love this airline. I have flown with them many times and enjoyed each time. This is soo inspirational and emotional. I think it was a sincere commercial no bs behind it. GO AA!!!!!

  • This song is so emotional to the terror of 9-11 i think American Airlines should be rewarded for this T_T im crying like a lot if i watch this video. Thank you

  • AMERICAN AIRLINES IS THE BEST.
