Technically he was knocked out 4 times. He was just never counted out. He was only knocked down once ever, by Danny Nardico. I still would say he's one of the top 7 or 8 greatest middleweights ever.
He was stopped against SRR and in his fixed fight with Billy Fox and I'm sure he went down in one of his fights towards the end of his career. SRR has also only been stopped once in over 200 fights and I'm sure he wasn't KO'd properly.
I'm talking about Lamotta being stopped and SRR was stopped just once as in lost a fight that wasn't on points in over 200 hence when I say he wasn't KO'd more the fight had to be stopped because of the heat I think.
Jake La Motta was a tough guy who didnt give a fuck, when he had to testify against th mafia at th grand jury he was asked "are you scared of the mafia?"....and his exact reply was " i aint scared of none of them rats!!! "
@JackWhitear HE DIDD!!! AHH nobody knows much about that fight either! Danny Nardico did knock him down. Wow, NArdico's from Tampa Florida. They dont mention that one though. Thats really somethin that someone else knows about that as well
@simply21sicilian Lamotta wasnt really "knocked Down" more like he fell so i dont count it. plus Lamotta was way out of his prime and i dont think he was trying his best either
@Snako85 Sorry brother but it was definately a knockdown, Nardico was in the middle of a combination when Lamotta nearly fell through the ropes. Lamotta was older then though, and Nardico didn't knock him out
LaMotta's record was 83-19-4 (30 KO) November 14, 1947-TKO'd in 4 rounds by Billy Fox, although he would later admit to throwing the fight in order to gain a title shot against Marcel Cerdan February 14,1951-TKO'd in 13 rounds by Sugar Ray Robinson, losing the Middleweight Championship June 27,1951-listed as "retired in 7th round" against Bob Murphy. Also listed as TKO December 31,1952-again retires in 7 rounds against Danny Nardico. Knocked down for first and only time in 7.
I just watched Raging Bull last night what a movie I only wished I lived in the 40s and 50s to experience the Jake Lamotta fights. It makes me damn proud to be Italian!!!
@theman1819 give me a break Jake LaMotta was the first to defeat the Greatest Pound 4 Pound fighter that ever lived in his prime. Duran won the title on a LOWBLOW refused to give Ken a rematch..No Mas Vs Leonard and was KTFO vs Hearns. It should be the other around duran should not be mentioned in the breath as lamotta. But he is because he was great like jake...The greatest lightweight ever The Ghetto Wizard.
lamotta only went down once and that was right at the end of his carear. ppl give him less credit than he deserve he was the first boxer to beat robinson and yes he lost to him but lamotta knocked him down twice and robinson could not get lamotta down and robinson was a very hard puncher. ppl always say u shoulnt be like lamotta be more like robinson that may be right but jsut try to go 3 rounds fighting like lamotta jsut kept coming forward getting hit.
Lamotta was a brutal and inteligent fighter. Ya got in the ring with him ya better either be really fast. Or ya better be able to take alot of punishment.
Watching Jake throw in slo-mo makes me realize how accurate he was, at least near the end, something he doesn't seem to get a lot of credit for. If you look, those hits are all striking Bob Murphy in some very, very bad places to get hit - frequently the neck.
He was tko'd at least once, in a famous vicious fight against Robinson in Chicago. It was a close fight through about 8 rounds, then Lamotta tired. Robinson beat him into a near stupor in the last few rounds. Lamotta would not the down, but, mercifully, the ref did stop it. That fight is here on youtube.
Yeah, adamhully, Ill give it up to La Motta. He was a true great, a true HOF'er. In fact, i give respect to any fighter from that era, they did'nt just hand you championship fights like today. Back then you had to earn it,"You're a great fighter? Well get in line buddy."
jake lamotta pumeled murphy there, jake is the greatest pound for pound fighter ever and he never went down so lets hear it for the bronx bull, the raging bull lets hear it for the great jake lamotta!!!
this must have been their second fight which lamotta won by ud. would like to see the whole fight. murph won the first fight tko in 7th. when jake quit on the stool.
and that you never got me down comment at the end of their sixth fight, That never actually happened in real life.

Partially correct. The ref stopped the fight, so it was a TKO. However, Robinson did not knock JL off his feet.

la motta was a great in fighter. he had a
bad habit of gaining weight between fights
that wore him out. rocky marciano called him
the best he'd ever seen. he throws some nice
hooks against murphy, good action

Yeah in his book he said he's lost well over 1000 pounds throughout his career.
