1. this rooster was rasied in a farm similar to yours. its just he lost a fight and had to leave. if you think a human did this you must be stupid. i raise chickens. one time a rooster killed my favorite chicken because she was sick, so i kicked him and it killed him (didnt mean to). but if it was a human it would of been dead. roosters are raised to protect flocks not for meat since there mean dosent taste as good. and chickens are not abused before there eaten. ignorant hippy crap
OMG bless you for saving him. SOrry that he has since passed but you gave him a good life. I have chooks and also do my best for them. I dont eat chicken at all. Thank you for saving another of G-ds creatures xxx
Oh jesus christ, God bless America! Lets grab our guns and shoot dogs, cause that's totally NOT animal abuse, is it? Good on you for saving the rooster, but honestly I find your logic incredibly difficult to understand. Only in America...
I have raised chickens for meat and eggs since I was a little girl and I have never seen anything like this. Our chicken's run free (except at night) and have all their beaks and claws still firmly attached to their bodies to run to. They are fed organic chicken scratch and greens and food scraps and what ever bugs and grasses they collect for themselves. I have never seen a chicken in my life with their beak docked like that. What are people thinking?
the rooster probably just got in a fight with brother or grandpa put him in his place. fangs and claws in the wild is natural and barbaric sure enough. going to shoot a dog?? THATS ILLEGLE ISN'T IT. CAN'T BE JUDGE OF ANY ANIMALS FATE--REMEMBER THATS THE CITY'S LIBERAL WAYS. TED NUGENT SAYS IT BEST--I LIKE FAST FOOD A DUCK NEAR MY BLIND OR GOOSE ON THE LOOSE. All animals deserve our respect...inlcuding a dog that bites! Very disturbing that you thought it was okay to shoot a dog! Deal with the owner..the dog is a victim of poor training, being allowed to run loose, etc. but, you did a very angelic thing in saving the rooster. thank you.

@hazeb2195 He died healthy and happy in March of this year. He died in a warm cozy bed with his best friend, Pippi, at his side. He had a really good life with us. We spoiled him rotten and he knew he was loved.
Recently my husband and I found a crow that had been clipped by traffic. We could not believe that nobody else stopped.
The wildlife shelter we took it to said it had a good chance of surviving. Getting him off the highway and holding him on my lap stays with me to this day.
I have so much respect for people like you who see the value in our dear birds and take the time and resources to heal them. As someone who doesn't have the circumstances personally (illness) I thank you!
We feed him chicken scratch, some cat food, other chicken pellets and some seeds. He has been with us a year and 4 months now. It's OK to feed them dog or cat food as treats, they love it.
He is lucky to ahve you. He now knows humans can be loving. I'm sorry he is so sick but you have made his life good . He may have died without ever knowing kindeness.
I can't stand de-beaking! I watched a video where chicks were being debeaked, looked PAINFUL! He looked like a black chicken before... after his bath, he turned out to be a lovely Rhode Island Red! Who would have thought? What a beautiful boy, and I bet he's glad to have been rescued. We need more folks like you in the world!
He has been with us almost a year now. But he is VERY sick because of being debeaked, he can't eat on his own, he has constant ear infections, and we recently found out he has severe degenerative bonr disease and he also has an egg sized tumor on his lung. Yesterday he had a bad seizure, so he doesn't have much time left.
He could be as young as just over a year, or as old as six. He was in such bad shape, there is no way to tell. But we still have him, and have had him now for 9 wonderful months! Please see his more recent video to see how wonderful he looks.
I do not believe that this is a commercially raised meat bird. He is the wrong shape, size, comb type and color for one. He is at least a year old and commercially raised meat birds are slaughtered after only a few weeks. I do not see anything that would lead me believe that he had been tortured by humans, either. More likely he had a really rough few weeks wandering loose before you rescued him.
Would you like me to email you his X-Rays, he has a broken neck, both legs, toes, wings. He was SEVERELY abused. I never said he was commercially raised, but whoever had him neglected and abused him. We have over $2000 vet bill for him to prove it.
atleast you saved that rooster. I have loads of animals... One of my roosters kept on fighting with the smaller roosters. Blood was everywhere. Now,everytime I go out back. I yell when I see fighting.. They all stop. Now the roosters are trying to mate with the hens. Hah. Since they are young,They have no clue on what to mate,so instead of doing the mate dance to the hens, they do it to my duck! XD Ahah. I hurry and pick up the chicken,so they don't mate my duck,Even though,Its impossible.
We changed his name to Quasimoto, or Que for short, since he has a hunchback and walks with a limp. He is doing wonderful, but has recurring ear infections, when drinking, bubbles come out of his eye, he still has trouble eating and breathing. He will need veterinary care for the rest of his life, and medication as well, but he is happy. He too tries to mate my ducks, as does one of our other roosters. The hens fight more than the roosters do, Neelix and Que sleep together on the bed.
aw. Well, I'm glad he got better, I just wish he didn't have so much infections. I feel so so bad for him. Poor little guy. I'm glad you saved it before it died. Well, My duck has been doing pretty good. the roosters attacked my duck two weeks ago. my ducks head feathers were off, but it grew again, once we put the duck separate from the roosters.
The rooster got renamed Quasimoto, or Que for short. He is doubled in weight and size and is healthy. I will post an update video soon. The dog is still roaming the streets. Animal Control have been here many times, and the cops too, but the owner is a cop so nothing got done.
We called the humane society several times, but each time they came, the dog is nowhere to be found. We also called police, and nothing was done. The humane society told the owners to keep the dog in their yard or on a leash, but they just don't listen. The dog has been in our yard and has attacked other kids as well as my son a couple of times. Nothing is being done because they owner is a cop. I'm constantly afraid he will come into my yard and try to hurt my ducks and chickens.
Oh my gosh, god bless you for rescuing him. I cried through the video just looking at what abuse he must of gone through. As a bird and animal lover myself, it sickens me what humans do to God's creatures.
I am happy to report, he is doing wonderful. But I just posted a video in memory of a little hen I lost a few days ago. She was so sick, I just adopted her and she was so sick, she needed surgery and sadly she died. Look for the video titled A MEMORIAL TO SUNNY...
My first shamo(Japanese fighting fowl)was a male that had won the fight but lost his whole upper beak.Thank God they gave him to me.He used his beak like a spoon,he needed a very deep cup to eat properly.Power to the birds!!!
No, his beak will never grow back, but my vet evened out the bottom part so he can eat better. He has doubled in weight and his comb has trippled in size. He is doing excellent, no more lice, his ear infection is gone, but he has arthritis, so he has a playpen he stays in. No, he doesn't get along with the other roosters, but he loves our hen. Will post updated videos soon.
Actually its not painful for them, its just like cutting your fingernails. Its so they don't cannibalize each other in their cages. His beak won't grow back.
It's not painful for them I know, It's just like us clipping our nails. But if the birds were given enough food and room to roam and scratch, they wouldn't want to peck each other, so they wouldn't have to have their beaks trimmed, which makes it hard for them to crack seed. Bit of a vicious circle if you ask me.
Screw them. In Australia the momentum for free-range eggs is rapidly increasing purely because people are willing to pay the extra knowing that the eggs they are consuming are coming from happier birds. So long as consumer knowledge grows, we will continue towards more humane growing methods and no animal will need to be 'altered'. Humans will always eat meet, but our methods will improve, taking into consideration the lives that we consume
Actually it is EXTREMELY PAINFUL AND BARBARIC. Why don't you look at a video of them debeaking baby chicks with a hot sharp iron? Decide for yourself. If you only clip the tip, then no, it's not painful, as I trim my chickens beaks all the time, but in large chicken farms, they cut the top part off too far so it cannot grow back, the chick babies scream and some die from shock. So don't let anyone tell you it's not painful.
Thank God you were outside just at the right time! After all the suffering he's experienced, I'm so glad he found you and your family. Please let us all know how everything goes on Saturday.
