You Calgary fans are becoming worse than Boston's fans. It doesn't even matter if the puck was in or not, you can't blame the refs for Calgary's loss of the series. After that call, the Flames still had all of overtime and the next game to win, but they got outplayed. The Lightning truly deserved and earned that trophy.
Why the FUCK was this goal not actually reviewed, and then later determined to be "inconclusive" by the NHL after the game? FUCK YOU Bettman, for trying to FORCE hockey into the southern US market where people don't give a shit about hockey other than the Canadians and northern US residents who winter there.
as a canuck fan, i'm going to say that gelinas goal was fucking in! was the play not reviewed? one of sports' greatest travesties. and also, i cant possibly imagine the stress and anticipation in ot, knowing that one shot could win it all,.,
How much time was in that game anyway when the non goal came about? It was in the 3rd right? So...there was time for Tampa to still score another goal and sent it to OT anyway. I don't understand what this "we should have won!" stuff is thats being said, it's not as if it was OT yet...
There is nothing better than seeing a Canadian hockey team being screwed out of the Stanley Cup? There's a good chance that no Canadian team will ever win a Cup again. Hell, its already been 18 years!
Maybe u Canadians should start another league with only teams from Canada. None of the top players would play in it, but at least u would have "your" game back.
You can call it the SHL: Salty Hockey League.
Their sense of entitlement makes Canadian hockey fans the most annoying fans on earth.
Im a Canucks fan and i dont really like the flames but i really wanted them to win the cup, i mean if they score in overtime its over, i cant imagine how loud the crowd would be....
The ref who called this can go die in a hole seriosly wat the hell!!! it is in flames won the cup they deserved i dont care wat anyone says seriously they weren't that great of a team that year but they did something amazing and did do good in the play offs they deserved it.
meh, I live in calgary... and I always thought we should have won by burning a hole in the back of the net... even if this was a goal who cares we had plenty of other chances and failed.
Yeah the championship should be given to the team the accidentally has the puck accidentally go off a skate and accidentally stops around the line accidentally!!!
Not,lame ass calgary fans wanting the cup off some random ass bullshit.Bury your pucks in the net if you wanna win you had 5 god damn periods to do something and you had like 3 shots in game 7 not to mention the pp goal in game 7 off a bad call.Tools...
@NessMencesal Biased against Canadian teams eh? You do realize that almost all refs are Canadian right? If anything they'd be biased FOR Canadian teams. But honestly, I don't think they give a shit where the team is based, I think they go by which team has a superstar on it (see, Pittsburgh Penguins).
it happened with like 6 minutes left anything could have happened, it still wasn't in but you guys had a chance in OT to win and you didn't. Also you had game 7. You guys had your chances to capitalize but you failed, it never crossed the line. That camera angle is probably the most unreliable there is. Get over it the bolts deserved the cup and that's why they won.
Technically the Flames should be the 2004 Stanley Cup Champions. I'm a Wings fan and that is one of the worst calls in NHL history! 2004 Cup should be the Flames.
Flames fans didn't even support this team prior to 2004 anyway...so they didn't "deserve" anything, and even if the phantom goal had counted...what gives Flames fans the right to determine that it would have stood up as the winner?
Bottom line is there is not even video today that shows the puck crossed the line,so stop whining Calgary...you lost, and the way your team looks today,it will be a cold day in hell before you have another shot at the Cup! Congratulations Tampa Bay, 2004 Cup Champs!
Calgary fans, I respect your frustration with what happened. Canada hadn't had the cup in a long time. Several points in that series became less Tampa vs Calgary and more Canada vs USA. You could cut through the atmosphere in those games with a knife.
Unfortunately, from every angle, there was no conclusive evidence that it was at all a goal. There was also an independent 3D recreation done afterwards of where the puck was when Khabby snatched it. It wasn't a goal.
every time i watch this fuckin clip it pisses me off.
the puck was in the net.
calgary deserved that cup.
and for all you guys sayin: "it was 6 years ago, let it go" i dont care if it was 6 years ago or 6 seconds ago, its always gonna piss me of. fuck, when the series is 600 years old ill still protest and question the goal.
@66Ryansworld yeah, calgary did their best, and thats what pisses me off. the puck was in, and they shoulda won. wouldnt it piss you off if a goal was called back from your favourite team and eventually led to them losing teh stanley cup?
Everyone stop bitching about the goal, and before you say bias I was cheering for Calgary. It was so close there was not conclusive evidence, and btw it was 6 years ago
I Miss the Old NHL Rules. sure it was a little slower but it was old fashioned, more fights, young players had to actually be good instead of relying on their athletiscm to succeed like in todays NHL, and less head hit/behind the back hits. and goals meant more.
@Notsavard stfu ur clearly an american who dusnt kno shit bout hockey n would rather hear some faggot on espn. every1 knows cbc is the best for listening to hockey commentary and watchig the game
lol you whiny Flames fans are too much. You lost. Deal with it. The puck was not in the net in Game 6, it was above the goal line giving the illusion it was in. It wasn't. Quit whining. None of you ever supported the Flames before 2004 anyway, so shut your bandwagoner mouths.
The real Joke is The lightning have just got 3 high pick draft picks Calgary Traded theres for Oli One of the Lightnings picks is Stamkos so starting this year the Lightning are gonna have a good team for years to come and Calgarys only going down hill.
Plus I predict Stamkos will bring the Lightning another cup.
@westboy48 They didnt show it in the video , if you want to see it simply type in the search bar top ''10 controversial goals (number 4) '' or ''gelinas phantom goal''. This goal was scored in the third period by Gelinas but Kerry fraser ( referee ) called it off. This goal would have given the flames a 3-2 lead in the third making the flames won the cup.
It was reviewed by the league and they deemed it no goal because of the over-the-crossbar angle which showed the puck still had over half its own length left to travel over the goal line. It didnt go in. I would readily admit that the lightning didnt deserve it if the Flames did indeed score. But, the flames didnt score. Its 6 years later. Its over and done.
Max, look, I understand where you are coming from. But, all the evidence and anybody who investigated this that was objective said it wasnt a goal.
The lighting was the best team in the league in 2003-2004. The had the most talented roster, the second best record, and the league MVP. Calgary ALMOST beat them. They played great in the playoffs and if any team deserved it, they did. But, that was not a goal in game 6. And, if the roles were reversed, I would say that the Bolts didnt win either.
@MyTeamVideos perhaps, but the fact is that the nhl didn't even bother after a stoppage in play to even review it. they could have done that at the very least. as a result, we don't even have a quality view of the play. i'm not saying the puck went in, but the war room in toronto should have called for a review after the next stoppage in play. there is no excuse for not doing that.
would people shut up about the goal that was that wasnt, i live an hour and a half south of calgary and was in huige support for the flames, but theyve had 5 seasons to get back to the finals and havent, so let it rest
@ChopperCity47 actually tampa has lost to calgary almost everytime since these playoffs. the first game they played after these playoffs flames beat tampa 7-5. tampa has only won 1 game in 5 years against flames since 2004
FUCK YOU damn canadians you win the cup every year beacuse canadian players are leading teams to it, Tampa is a legendary hockey team for that win and we honor names like St. Louis and Lecavalier. We continue to beat the flames each season in tampa or calgary.
@Tan976 You want the Cup back in Canada so much that you don't even care if your most hated rivals win it? I wouldn't root for the Yankees if they were playing Al Qaeda.
Don't know how familiar you guys are with this story, but Ray Bourque called Tim Taylor of the Lightning on the day of Game 6 & left him a message on his cell, about how, in 2001, the Avs were down 3-2 on the road vs New Jersey & the Devils hoped to raise the Cup on their rink but the Avs spoiled the party. Bourque actually helped to motivate the Lightning, not that they needed it thought, but it helped. Y'all thought Calgary was going to wrap it all up...but Tampa had OTHER plans:-D
@ckendall67 Calgary put more pucks in their opponent's net in regulation time than Tampa Bay did in game 6. period. That's the object of the game. Whether the refs saw that or not I don't care. The Flames are the real champs of '04. what a disgrace.
Quit whining TheWhiteOut. In the "old NHL" (Pre-lockout) the refs would swallow their whistles and rarely ever call a penalty in overtime of the playoffs. If you actually watched the game, and the first overtime you would see both teams got away with murder.
dude even if the goal did go in (which it didnt it was an eye trick) the lightning still would have had time to score again abc made a graph that proves the puck didnt cross the line
@Reconstudios1 that doesn't substitute for an actual video review of the play from different angles, which is what the nhl should have done. they made a similar mistake in the 2003 eastern conference finals between ottawa and new jersey. the puck in that game clearly went in, but the stupid nhl never even called for a review
Interesting. Well, It appears that location is what is being based on your assessment. We have a huge number of northerners who live here. The largest playoff crowd of over 28,000 and a Stanley cup (which by the way Calgary also only has ONE). I am sure that we could debate on the Tampa Bay area being deserving or not. I will say this though, I started playing hockey in Michigan in 1983 and live in Mass in 1988. Tampa, has a growing fan base, we dont riot, and we get excited about the team
I personally dont understand what makes you northern teams/Canadians in general, so hateful of a game that the southern United states has adopted and loves. Sure, fanaticism of hockey isnt rampant here. But, I know a huge group of people who got exposed to hockey for the first time because of the Bolts and other southern teams and they now LOVE the game beyond any other games.
So, how about you lay off and find something else to bitch and moan about.
And you are welcome too say whatever you dam well please. Its just very irritating to be called less of a hockey fan because of my geographic location. Passion or love for something is not dictated by geography.
@numberoneJATT Hey,I'm a Flames fan too,but don't forget that this was in regulation and even if the Gelinas goal had counted,Tampa Bay still had roughly 4 minutes to answer it.
@landrykkb Right. If you want to blame anyone for that game blame the Flames for coming out flat. They didn't hold a lead at all in either game 6 or game 7.
@landrykkb I guess my point is, it's one thing to lose but to be one game away and to never hold a lead, never be in a position to win...that's got to be disheartening. I guess another point I'm trying to make is that the Flames came out flat in a lot of home games where they had a chance to put the other team away. They let a 3-2 lead slip in the first round and had to go to game 7, gave up a 2-0 lead against the Sharks (with both wins on the road) and let a 3-2 lead get away in this series.
@VancouverChokers The Flames were just a mere goal away in overtime of Game 6.They lost at the end of the day and it was disheartening, granted, but a gallant effort, nevertheless, and it was well beyond what I expected of them when the playoffs started.
thats the hockey gods biting them in the ass, Calgary still hasnt had the playoff run they had in 04, but at least we still have good teams. The lighting are just embarrassing
it took the height and did not simulate it but made a computer generated image and put the height of the puck and length of the goal line and it made the image prooving th refs made the right call
i mean i know they won the cup but you have to admit, the lightning players and coaches must of been sick and tired of hearing that goal horn 2 series' in a row......i'm a flyers fan and i loved that horn but we let calgary have it lol.....
I have a feeling about the Flames this year.. i'm a sens fan too. Flames have Jokinen, Iginla, Cammalleri, and Bertuzzi along with Langkow and Phaneuf and leopold and Kiprusoff, look out!
The Flames have been on a massive cold streak, right now 3 D-men are listed as day to day with injuries. They're playing with 10 forwards and 6 D right now.
can you imagine how fucking insane the dome woulda been if they scored in overtime? brings back so many memories

Who cares? It happened over 5 years ago, big deal.

skateparkourpayton 2 years ago 30
@skateparkourpayton Actually the puck went in thanks to Gelinas kicking it. So THAT'S why it wasn't a goal.
stephl349 9 months ago

they kinda do but what they dont deserve is a franchise
sonny519 2 years ago
Interesting. Well, It appears that location is what is being based on your assessment. We have a huge number of northerners who live here. The largest playoff crowd of over 28,000 and a Stanley cup (which by the way Calgary also only has ONE). I am sure that we could debate on the Tampa Bay area being deserving or not. I will say this though, I started playing hockey in Michigan in 1983 and live in Mass in 1988. Tampa, has a growing fan base, we dont riot, and we get excited about the team
MyTeamVideos 1 year ago
I personally dont understand what makes you northern teams/Canadians in general, so hateful of a game that the southern United states has adopted and loves. Sure, fanaticism of hockey isnt rampant here. But, I know a huge group of people who got exposed to hockey for the first time because of the Bolts and other southern teams and they now LOVE the game beyond any other games.
So, how about you lay off and find something else to bitch and moan about.
MyTeamVideos 1 year ago
@MyTeamVideos well that's fine and dandy, but i will not lay off and continue to say whatever i dam well please
sonny519 1 year ago
@sonny519
And you are welcome too say whatever you dam well please. Its just very irritating to be called less of a hockey fan because of my geographic location. Passion or love for something is not dictated by geography.

no it was a goal

bigdantropphat 2 years ago
they had one angle and it was clearly seen from another that it never went in only about half actualy ever crossed the line
devilray96 2 years ago
omg that just pisses me off
lolkid5000 2 years ago
@devilray96 so, you wanna post a video showing that angle that proves it never crossed the line? id like to see it.
doubt there even is one.

What a clutch goal by St. Louis!!
He's amazing.
oshtkd 2 years ago
i could do that too if the game went on when it was over in the 3rd off Gelinas GWG that went unreviewed and uncounted...
ewilliams9 2 years ago
ewilliams9, you could score a goal in OT in a Stanley Cup Finals game?
To bad you didn't play for Calgary in '04.
They could have used you.
oshtkd 2 years ago
Calgary played a great series. They definitely proved they were the second best team in the league.

WE WON THE CUP!!!!!( TAMPA BAY SUX)
bigdantropphat 2 years ago
dude that goal never crossed th line it was proven get ovr it
devilray96 2 years ago
Holy HUGE hit at 1:13 HAHAHAHA wow
numberoneJATT 2 years ago
That was a FUCKING GOAL and the cup should have been OURS.
numberoneJATT 2 years ago
@numberoneJATT Hey,I'm a Flames fan too,but don't forget that this was in regulation and even if the Gelinas goal had counted,Tampa Bay still had roughly 4 minutes to answer it.
landrykkb 4 months ago
@landrykkb Right. If you want to blame anyone for that game blame the Flames for coming out flat. They didn't hold a lead at all in either game 6 or game 7.
VancouverChokers 2 months ago
@VancouverChokers What difference does that make? When you lose, you lose;lead or otherwise!
landrykkb 2 months ago
@landrykkb I guess my point is, it's one thing to lose but to be one game away and to never hold a lead, never be in a position to win...that's got to be disheartening. I guess another point I'm trying to make is that the Flames came out flat in a lot of home games where they had a chance to put the other team away. They let a 3-2 lead slip in the first round and had to go to game 7, gave up a 2-0 lead against the Sharks (with both wins on the road) and let a 3-2 lead get away in this series.
VancouverChokers 2 months ago
@VancouverChokers The Flames were just a mere goal away in overtime of Game 6.They lost at the end of the day and it was disheartening, granted, but a gallant effort, nevertheless, and it was well beyond what I expected of them when the playoffs started.
landrykkb 2 months ago
I dont care anymore beacuse the Pens won yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
islamahmadiyyat16 2 years ago
Even though I hate the flames that was a goal, it's a shame they didn't call it.
Shit happens though, those are the type of things you need to overcome to win a championship.

clearly that was the greatest blown call of all time. That WAS the FLAMES cup
islamahmadiyyat16 2 years ago
no clown, it was actually hoisted by members of the Tampa Bay Lightning! Quit crying in your beer.
truthbeknown100 2 years ago
The Lightning have sucked ever since because they touched a cup that they didn't win. The Lightning will never hoist the cup again.
OrgasmicOprah 2 years ago 2
thats the hockey gods biting them in the ass, Calgary still hasnt had the playoff run they had in 04, but at least we still have good teams. The lighting are just embarrassing
Smeags11 2 years ago 2
no th lightning won th puck never crossed it was prooved
devilray96 2 years ago
It was never proven.
OrgasmicOprah 2 years ago
o ya at was it was on an abc broadcast in game 7 look it up
devilray96 2 years ago
They didn't have the proper camera angle. I know exactly what you're talking about and it isn't video evidence.
OrgasmicOprah 2 years ago
so ur tellin me that a rotated angle isnt proof with them using advanced technology ok
devilray96 2 years ago
It isn't proof because it is simulated. There are so many other factors that need to be taken into consideration.
OrgasmicOprah 2 years ago
it took the height and did not simulate it but made a computer generated image and put the height of the puck and length of the goal line and it made the image prooving th refs made the right call
devilray96 2 years ago
You're redundant.
OrgasmicOprah 2 years ago
nothing else to say huh
devilray96 2 years ago
no it was incunclusive and the refs made a shitty call

I have a feeling about the Flames this year.. i'm a sens fan too. Flames have Jokinen, Iginla, Cammalleri, and Bertuzzi along with Langkow and Phaneuf and leopold and Kiprusoff, look out!
nevadaresident 2 years ago
The Flames have been on a massive cold streak, right now 3 D-men are listed as day to day with injuries. They're playing with 10 forwards and 6 D right now.
It isn't looking very good for them.
OrgasmicOprah 2 years ago
On the other hand, Bourque & Phaneuf are back :D
fourtrax450 2 years ago
Sarich might be back, I think Glencross is for sure.
Regehr is the only unknown... but he has a tendency to come back from injuries sooner then expected, even if it means a little pain.
