  • It's quite a movie. Did this really happen during that time? It's crazy if it did. Watching this movie was like watching a train crash. So crazy and insane, but I couldn't stop watching. It's still amazing though.

  • I couldn't eat bratwurst or Italian sausages for months after watching this. It's not for the weak... ;/

  • Just saw it, what a dumb retarded fucking piece of shit. Fuck this dumb movie

  • You're dumb you cunt.

  • i agree... It was more disturbing than dumb

  • He's pretty much saying that it was a good message in the movie, but could've at least been as good if they'd cut off all the gross part.

I disagree. People would think about it for 10 minutes and forget it as any other movie. But Salò cuts a sore wich is unforgetable.

  • LOL, the subtitles are not accurate...

  • Ahh, I've remembered...he is a victim...I was getting it confused...I'm sure he's the one who gets told at the dinner table to "eat shit"...but one of the guards is similar to him in terms of voice. Lol, I think.

  • I think, lol. Can't remember, and haven't watched it in a while.

  • Sergio is one of the victims, "vitteme" in the credits. I am sure he is the one who gets his tongue cut out in the final sequence, circla du sange ( blood ).

  • @warrenstacy I see. What part do the guards (those dancing with each other at the end) play in this film?

  • do you know where you can get this?

  • Not sure if you have Netflix, but they rent it from there.

  • torrents

  • *underpinning

  • i dunno parttimelaver. For me, toture porn goes over board into tedium & brainlessness. The relative er- 'restraint' of Salo plus its underpoinning of philosophical pretension somehow makes it ten times more disturbing to me than any of today's stuff.

and yea, Pasolini was so murdered for this

  • Smart guy and a good review...im glad you got it.

  • The guy sitting over the toilet in this video is fckin weird. I kinow he's being satirical but we could have really done without him wretching over his narration.

  • obviously you dont get the point you nazi failed abortion

  • Psst... He's acting.

  • I need to look at cute pictures of kittens now.

  • Was the director really murdered because of this movie ? By the way the movie is pretty terrible, but thats what it was suppose to be So Its understandable.

  • 5:25 it looks like quentin tarantino.

  • Salo is like father movie of torture porn

  • It might be the father movie of torture porn. But it's pretty tame stuff compared to modern day torture movies. I give you the French horror/torture movie 'Martyrs' for example. That really disturbed me. For me Salo is a clever piece of art with lots of underlying messages. But personally i don't find it disturbing. Just a bit weird.

  • they would also point out a faggot is a bundle of sticks. and although it's used as the term for homosexual, it has never officially been changed

  • it made me throw up too.

  • very stupid

  • i know...

  • i saw it and yeah its not nice but it was boring. but it did make me wanna chop those facists up with a nice sharp heavy machette swinging it at there skulls inbeding it within their heads and seeing them scream as i dig there eyes out with a big fish hook and bang some 5 inch nails up their noses and then pour boiling fat over them leting it scald the flesh to the bone then throw salt over them and let them writhe i might just chuck some shit in for good measure

  • Clockwork Orange is still better.

  • that kind of shit happens

  • saw this last week and was absolutley offended witch is hard to do to me

  • I read the director was murdered over this? Or is believed to have been. My wife got it for Christmas and she won't watch it now after reading the book I got to go a long with it.

  • Just saw this movie two days ago. Very horrible stuff. An excellent film, though. Hard to imagine someone with such talent and brains would make themselves look like such a savage.

  • prima di parlare di Pasolini sciacquati la bocca..coglione anglofono!!

  • "Mar Rosso"///

    Red sea.

  • It's misquoted at the "squirrel" bit. The line is "What does a Bolshevik do when he jumps into the red sea"...Sergio character laughs and asks for answer...libertine says "he goes SPLOOSH". No doubting the film's importance and its disturbing value. But, A Clockwork Orange handles similar themes more perfectly ( this IS exploitative ), and Stanley Kubrick shoulder barges Pasolini out the water in the handling of sex, death and power themes. Hard to believe this is available in UK.

  • This movie -and the message it contains- has absolutely nothing to do with Burgess' "A clockwork orange", neither with Kubrick's masterpiece. This is all about POWER (in every possible meaning it can be intended), and the way it corrupts men. The fact its environment is the fascist Republic of Salò, is a mere stylistic choice.

  • I'm not much surprised that foreign people can't exactly understand Pasolini's works. They all are conceptual and allegorical narrations. It takes some intentness to perfectly realize what the author wants to comunicate.

  • Is Sergio's character one of the victims or one of the guards? Judging by his attire and behaviour, he might be one of the guards.

  • this looks good

  • That was heeee-larious. Why does a squirrel swim on it's back? To Keep it's nuts dry!! ... "I'm allergic to corn??!!!!" HAHAHAH

  • Comment removed

  • who the fuck is this freak show?

  • This is to portray the truth in the phase, " Power Corrupts. And Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely".

This is what can happen when extremists are give absolute power, whomever they be. This is to provoke the thought that what our selected govt might be doing behind the scene if absolute unquestioned power is give, like the Bush or Nixon administration.

  • have you seen "in a glass cage"? perhaps you would like it too; it's along similar lines, but i found it even more disturbing.

  • i like the movie.

  • this movie is not suppose to be a joke u fucking idiot, This is a real honest look at what fascism is and how leaders of governments are often the exact opposite of what they portray themselves. all these men are evil hypocrite's who have unlimited authority which is truly horrifying. If u think about it this is the most realistic horror movie ever made.. and a brutally honest look at humans

  • You're right - forget the shock films about zombies and brutal death scenes - this film is the epitome of horror in the purest sense of the word.

  • @TheWonderBoyV No, this movie is not an honest look at what 'fascism is' its a look at some sick, twisted people.

  • you'd know about being a piece of shit.

  • maybe, but if you enjoy this stuff there is something disturbingly wrong with you.

  • sei proprio un C O G L I O N E !

    do you understand?

  • aside from fucking with the subtitles this was a pretty poor attempt at humor.

  • Interesting, but the guy vomiting is just idiot

  • You never once mentioned the fact that this story was originaly a BOOK !

  • salo is the most disturbing film that i have ever seen. pasolini shows us that everyone is susceptible to fascism. most of us just to get along.

  • Throughout watching this movie I had a very strong urge. I had this fantasy of taking every one of those bastards and boning them alive. Taking their bones home to my workshop, I would fabricate an exquisite king sized bed out of them. And every night as I'd lay down on that bed, that bed would start screaming. And I'd fall asleep listening to those horrible screams. Sweet as a lullaby.

  • I saw salo on vhs when I was 12, it took me another 20 years to re-watch the criterion release, pretty much as gross as I remembered

  • at 12? Jesus...

  • Being shocking for the sake of being shocking isn't intellectual. The book and this movie are both examples of this. By the way, at the end, the guy talking about shoving a hand in a guy's ass...that is actually pretty common nowadays. Those they use crisco not lard.

  • I do hope everyone knows he added his own subtitles.

  • This video has a lot of mistakes and wrong interpretations about the movie. To understand Salo, try to read first the book, wrote by Sade, and then read about italian fascism and Pasolini's biography.

  • this movie fucked with my head

  • subtitles are completely wrong (on purpose?)

  • the actual review was good but the toilet scene is horribly unfunny and useless

  • klaran

    kind of like your post

  • Completely agree.. i was going to post the same comment.

  • Comment removed

  • First of all i must say i love your reviews.

And second, yes the subtitle is very bad. What edition of the movie do you got, when they say something completly else then whats on the subtitle. For example the joke about the squirrel is in fact a joke about what a bolshevik sounds like when he hits water. Yes the original joke is bad but its the orginial. Maybe they taken out the more political side on the film with that subtitle.

  • Salo is truly one of the most overrated movies I have encountered.

  • The most disgusting thing of this video is the brat on the toilet!

  • I've seen this film, and I can only sum it up in one sentence. In the words of David Lister (Craig Charles) from Red Dwarf: "That's something nobody should EVER have to see."

  • 3:42 Is that supposed to look like a turd?

It looks like he pulled raw meat out of his butt

  • I know.

PS: Every time the Snob throws up makes me laugh :)

  • At least Salo doesnt have that annoying duck laugh that New york ripper had

  • Duck laugh? I don't remember.

  • In New York Ripper every time the killer talks or laughs he makes me cringe. I can barely understand him. He kills with style I will give him that much and that torture towards the end makes Hostel look soft but he needs subtitles hes THAT bads

  • i have a penchant for left of centre films and have seen my fair share......but this is the only film i have seen where i felt the need to shower after watching

  • CinemaSnob? Tell me your not one of those twats who paid $200 for the Criterion DVD on eBay/Amazon Market place only to find out that:

    a - it was cut

b - the picture quality was crap

c - a 2 minute Google search would have told you that the British BFI DVD was uncut, had far better picture quality, was a lot cheaper and had a nicer cover (in it's 2001 incarnation anyhow)?

Or were you just tryin to look cool by flashing that cover up?

Anyhow, this movie = BIG YAWN

  • must have been so fun being in that movie.

  • asshole...

  • The film looks relatively tamed compared to the book. *shivers*

  • this film made me want to puke

  • Yeah I tried to watch your video but I find you incredibly annoying. You give too much information out.

READ THE BOOK OR WATCH THE MOVIE AND FORGET WHAT THIS DOUCHE HAS TO SAY ABOUT IT!

  • ..are you some kind of new wave priest, posin' at your closet?! get the fuck of the way, watch Antichrist from lars von trier and get the hell out of this scene - fuck you destroyed it all - fuckin' asshole!

  • fuckin RL gay get out of your closet and shut the fuck up, you're so fucked up - and YOU TAKE THE MOVIE TO SHIT WITH THIS FUCKED UP interludes, you suck - motherfucker:

  • The 'pedantic' and 'pseudointellectual' aspect of this film lies on many of the people who watch it, and not on the movie itself. One needs to consider the time and circumstances that gave birth to this concept. Salo is a relevant movie. Also, some of the metaphors that the cinema snob shows are more the invention of people who watch the film than anything else. This movie is brutal and simple. For some reason people feel the need to see things where they aren't.

  • Good and Evil exists in all of us. We cannot live without one or the other.

  • what is the song that plays

  • Not sure what it's called, it's the song that plays at the opening and closing credits of "Salo."

  • @styxman09 It's called "Prelude in C-minor" by Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849). The song at the end is the same song but in the key of E-minor.

  • ¿Quien es el payaso bastardo del retrete?

  • why is the sound panned out? its more dominant oneside

  • blah blah blah yeah yeah ive heard of how brilliant this film is for whatever reason. i like to think i am open minded about film but i have no interest watching kids eating shit

  • Very good review.

  • One of the top movies on the list of films I appreciate objectively, but dislike subjectively. It's brilliant and fearless in its depictions of how sadism is part of the human nature, but I just couldn't stomach it.

  • It looks a bit grosome not in gory blood scennes but bceuase of the potential humans have over others

  • is this movie scary or cool

  • Scary in that it shows human beings in a revoltingly decadent light, and cool in the way in which it crosses so many boundaries. It doesn't get much more hardcore than Salo!

  • I think the reason why people (or we all), get so crazy with this movie (or any of marques de sade books) is that it shows us how cruel an vile we could be, it's the real human nature, something we try to hide, but it's there, and is a part of us in someway

  • Very good review. The version I downloaded online does have different subtitles than this one though, which makes me wonder which is right.

  • It got my Rusian man hard as a rock.

  • The best thing about people talking down to the movie is the fact that they're completely missing the point.

This movie is a display of just how ruthless and barbaric we as a species can be, with many other metaphorical points to go along with it, yes. It's also vile, horrible, disgusting, painful to watch, and could be downright offensive to some. Pasolini wasn't trying to create anything other then that.

  • my country misses the point this movie keeps getting released and then rebanned within a year!

  • As disgusting as this movie is, it's still a good movie. Good review.

Just thinking about the poop scenes makes me feel like throwing up.

  • I love the scene at 5:20.

  • Brilliant film. It does condensate the madness of totalitarian regimes, and it's abuse over the individuals. And like Sade's work, it also makes us question the traditional limits of art. Many people complained about the subtitles, well, it's obvious they were altered in this vid for comic relief.

  • I laughed uncontrollably when I found out what an Alaskan Pipe Line is.

  • This looks like an incredible movie. Sadly film makers these days don't have the balls to make films like these. Does anyone know where I can download the full version?

  • well nowadays people can make movies that exhibits racism, sexism and animal cruelty without people who takes things too seriously start accusing the movies of being racist and more

  • I downloaded a program called BitTorrent for free online, then googled 'Salo or 120 Days of Sodom download torrent file' and eventually got it. Took me HOURS to find the right one, but its out there.

  • bit torrent is most awesome

  • I think the shit eating scene symbolizes the people who actually admire and praise this peace of crap film.

  • Agreed. Just watched it and its BAAAAAAD.

  • Pretty good review.

Salo's message is spot on, and I think it delivers that message the way it deserves. Anyone with the balls to make something this extreme has my respect.

  • I got to watch this online and it was horrible. Just too gory. The ending is the worst....it really takes the gore up a notch.

  • where did u watch it ? send me the link! plz

  • 3:15.... errr..... what the fuck are those subtitles? They have nothing to do at all with the real dialogue. NOTHIIIIING!!!!!!!!!! And that's not all... every single subtitle i saw in this review is wrong. Not just some words wrong, it's just completely other stuff! Random junk, wtf!!!! It's like translating "This is clean water" into "i'm a monkey that shoots lazor from its ass"!!!!!! How can you get a movie like this with such subtitles?

  • I just made a summary of this movie. . .it will tell you what you are going to get yourself into

  • holy shit he sticks nails in an orange and makes her eat it and she has a belt on here neck so her neck couldent expand thats fucking brutal were can i get a t shirt that says salo or 120 of sodom?

  • And rusty nails no less. This is brutal but powerful filmaking. But Cannibal Holocaust was worse in the fact they really slaughtered 5 animals for REAL whereas Salo is red paint and choc and marmaladie rolled into a cigar shape to look like shit

  • Shame we dont have more film makers like Pasolini.......Salo is a reat film , although it could have been slightly better. Today all we have is shitty, ball less film directors.

  • Is that your padded cell at the end there?

  • you're good.

I personally have very very very mixed feelings about that movie.

A horror movie should scare me. I was scared only by the imagination of being captured and then raped etc...I felt sorry for those boys and girls but If I should judge that film equitably, I think it could be better, If it would have been made better. If there would be seen the topic of war and so on. (mussolini etc...)

  • Cool!

    Now do Caligula!

  • I think he didnt understand the film. Too bad. May be a lack of sensitivity?

  • 2:22

That cracked me up so bad xD

  • Comment removed

  • nice review...love ur clockwork orange poster haha I'm definately gonna check this movie out

  • Pasolini is amazing, interesting review... you're a bit of a twat, but well put anyway.

  • I'm fairly certain those aren't the correct subtitles.

  • Man you are really funny! :D

    GREAT!!

  • dobry film,a masz go w calosci,to moze na maila bym go dostal

  • You were too kind.

  • lololol

  • hah hah great review!

it makes me want to watch the movie again!

  • why the hell did you crack an egg in yo mouth?

  • Comment removed

  • I still think Salo is an awful, pointless, vacuous movie. The only point I can see to its existence would be following the Raymond Lemorne (Spoorloos) philosophy - in this case that the sickest most depraved shit must be turned into a movie purely to fulfill the initial idea.

I can't see how any of the wider points about fascism and mass-produced food-as-shit really hold. At least enough to make a movie about.

  • in a weird kind of way this movie has a "beautiful" quality to it because u will never see another like it today

  • 7:47 ROFL

  • So were those really the subtitles that came for the video because they were really done bad, I mean really bad. They were completely changing the meaning of the lines. I think I can do a better job and I'm not fluent in Italian but dam that were the worse subtitles I have ever seen.

  • I think I saw this film one night, though only the first 20 minutes. I remember it being about people talking about piss and shit & being rather boring ,so I never watched it further.

    I'm kinda glad I did....

  • Pasolini's 120 days are in many ways different from Sade's version.

Passolini had facism sited, and the absolute control it governs over people.

Sade cared only about living this life to its fullest without any moral restrictions and fear of divine punishment.

  • Actually cinema snob is completely wrong about the shit eating. The real reason as to why the libertines eat shit is very simple and has nothing to do with socio-economic or even political issues.

Coprophagia for humans goes against their accepted nature. Anything that was against the true natural order excites the libertine mind. Think of reality the way it is percieved by virtuous humans. The extreme lecher enjoy's the mirror image.

  • i have read that it is a metaphor for fast food. but having watched the film i am inclined to agree with you. i can think of few things more humiliating than eating shit. except watching this shit. it is a poor film and deviates from sade's originalnarative.

  • "HARSH!" lol.

  • I don't get what he said about the subtitles. I mean, the subs you see in these video are a joke, right?

I'm Italian, and what you can read in the subs has nothing to do with what the actors are saying.

  • The subtitles you see on here are meant as a joke. I thought they were funny.

  • Ah, ok. The thing is, my brain bends when I hear someone speaking Italian and I see english subs at the same time. It's just that it's impossible to use two languages at once :)

  • dig ur user name. alex.

  • I want to see this but I am not sure if I can handle it.

  • It's not scary at all xD it's just weird and funny instead ^^

  • lol HARSH!

  • I want to see this...anyone know where I can watch it online? Apparently its one of those films where you dont enjoy watching it but you cant turn it off. I found out that the shit was made from chocolate sauce and marmalade...that should make me feel better =P

  • torrent

  • Germans love eating shit think thats why they have always been full of it ..

  • a french novelist, an italian film director, a movie made in italy and france, not even a german actor ...

your idea of germans is a result of a ... singleminded moron who did not use the thing between his ears.

    to the movie

i read the book and think its the worst one the marquis ever wrote. and than an attention-whore like pasolini tries to make it worse ...

  • I loved that film. It was my first real view of alternative thinking in film. I was 13 when I saw it for the first time. I was stunned beyond words. 8D

  • SALO is the real thing: A brutal Masterpiece. Do yourself a favor & read De Sade & then watch this movie. And, thank you Cinema Snob, this was HILARIOUS!!

  • lol, while i hate seeing the feces related parts of this movie, starting at 3:20, that sounds like a joke that would be in a seth rogen movie

  • that guy doesn't even come close to how daring pasolini was he hasn't the balls to do something different

  • That dude sounds like Jack Nicholson.

  • its mabye a step below but the movie feed is pretty fucking close lets just say a dude submits to let another guy cut off his pecker and other bits of flesh cooks them up and the guy eats it

  • as the sex part man has done all kinds of depravate things as you said, looking for satisfaction, and hurting other people. aids is oneof the result of that.

  • i watched this movie when i was 17. i think it is sick and it can do damage to your thinking.

  • Not at all , it gives you knowledge, it shows you how depravate a man can get. It also shows you another nature of the human side, way too horrifying for ordinary people.

  • U DONT NEED TO PLACE YOUR HAND IN THE FLAME TO SEE IF IT really burns. you dont need to take poison to beliave that poison kills. and i reather be an ordinary person than a person doing nasty things that go against mans normal nature. i dont think is healthy to eat some one else shit. it can even kill u. you dont go around cutting women tits. do you?

  • I don't know about you, but I can't even wake up in the morning unless I cut some women's tits..

    That, and coffee with cheerios.
