I knew this story was too good to be true. He's an addict. Until Dr. Phil sent him to rehab recently, he was still doing drugs and lying about it to everyone. How naive of these so-called newspeople to believe everything without doing any research on how this man ended up panhandling on a street corner. the first thing this lady told her son when she met him was to complain about his clothes. I would have rather expected her hugging her son and telling him that she loves him. screw the clothes. who cares. they didnt see each other for so many years. it shows just how superficial and arrogant this lady is.

Ted's mom is a text book example of a non-validating parent. One of the first things she says to him "those clothes are horrible"....another example is when he was having fun as a child doing radio voices...she told him to quote "stop". She needs to be taken into some strong mental counseling and grow the fuck up and validate her adult child. This woman is a monster in Teds life...and will be the main reason he goes back to drinking if such a thing happens. I feel for Ted.

Times were hard and people didn't appreciate what their kids did. It's possible that this woman had a hard and discouraging child hood, with parents that never encouraged her. When she grew up and became a mom, she got her parenting skills from her parents and passed the bad parenting down to Ted. :\

How naive of these so-called newspeople to believe everything without doing any research on how this man ended up panhandling on a street corner. It's naive of some of you people to blame his entire family: his mother & his nine estranged children; to say they are the ones who can't be trusted. Clearly, they have been let down before.

the first thing this lady told her son when she met him was to complain about his clothes. I becomes increasingly clear that ted's family is not good for him. his mother talks down to him and he has nine adult children who obviously didnt care much about him. there is a reason why this educated and kind man ended up on the streets. he should distance himself from people who wont support him and believe in him.

I was thinking the same thing. It seems like his mother has never really encouraged him and she still acts reluctant about believing in him. He needs encouragement and support from his mother and family now. And I think all she is saying to him off camera is how much he has embarrassed them and let the family down. She was thrust into being on T.V. with her son, but I think that she could care less. Yes he needs to break ties with anybody that don't believe in him; ..family or not.

@rockee77 His family is no good for him? Learn the facts. He had a fight with his daughter because he started drinking heavily again. Years ago, he abandoned his family running off with other women and developed a serious drug problem, ending up homeless. When his children grew up, they tried to help him out, but he kept on abusing drugs. When his mother intervened, he ignored her. They have every right to be angry. He will need their support if he relapses again after the media goes away

Ted's mom is a text book example of a non-validating parent. One of the first things she says to him "those clothes are horrible"....another example is when he was having fun as a child doing radio voices...she told him to quote "stop". She needs to be taken into some strong mental counseling and grow the fuck up and validate her adult child. This woman is a monster in Teds life...and will be the main reason he goes back to drinking if such a thing happens. I feel for Ted.

@Sn4pDr4gon Although I agree with what you say, let me clear out some dust here. She's old, she grew up in the old days way back then. Back when parenting was a completely different story. Times were hard and people didn't appreciate what their kids did. It's possible that this woman had a hard and discouraging child hood, with parents that never encouraged her. When she grew up and became a mom, she got her parenting skills from her parents and passed the bad parenting down to Ted. :\
