Not a user friendly tutorial. First you have to lookup dfu mode. Then when you have put it in dfu mode your ipad is in restore mode.. but simply install this jailbreak.. WAIT WHUT.. where the hell do you run it from? It doesn't magically appear when in dfu mode. What a bother.

But in the early years of jailbreaking my iPhone 3G, I installed a tweak called MakeItMine (changes the carrier name in whatever you like). After I restored my 3G the carrier was still changed. Download the 5.0.1 IPSW [Google.] - Turn off iPod before opening redsn0w [what i did.] then go to 'extras' when you first open redsn0w and go to 'Select IPSW' then select the 5.0.1 IPSW, then go back, to main tab, and jailbreak [DFU, then go on as normal.]
REDSN0W HAS STOPPED RESPONDING:
Put redsn0w as compatibility to XP [some say windows 95 option works] and Run as admin, and hope for the best.

SOLUTION for me anyways ;)
STUCK AT 'WAITING FOR REBOOT'
Download the 5.0.1 IPSW [Google.] - Turn off iPod before opening redsn0w [what i did.] then go to 'extras' when you first open redsn0w and go to 'Select IPSW' then select the 5.0.1 IPSW, then go back, to main tab, and jailbreak [DFU, then go on as normal.]
REDSN0W HAS STOPPED RESPONDING:
Put redsn0w as compatibility to XP [some say windows 95 option works] and Run as admin, and hope for the best.
Sorry if this didnt work. Worked for me.

Hey i just did this jail break but the wierdest thing happened.
My ipod first made wierd pictures then went blank, after trying to reboot it and started up like normal and had little to no batterly life. When i decided to charge it i left it alone, when i came back to the room it was taking a shit in my toilet

@shortcutdanne no, jailbreak on ios 5.0.1 still has to come for iPhone 4s and iPad 2. Pod2g or/and the chronic dev team are working on it. Waiting impatiently o.o

well in the video he says it works for 5.X at 1:19, which i'm pretty sure means 5.0 & 5.0.1.
so clearly, it's ONLY for 5.0.1 ...... and for some reason itunes will not allow me to update or restore my iphone 4. so i guess i'm pretty shit out of luck

i have done the same process on my 3gs but now it shows NO SERVICE. i upgraded using itunes from a custome IPSW from icrerified .. but now there is no signal on my phone .. can anyone help please

It lists all the currently limited free apps. I've gotten loads of apps from that, like Snapseed, Minigore, FlightControl, Halftone, Luminance, picfx, SoundHound, Shazam, etc.. You should consider it.

According to MacRumours:
1.TURN YOUR IPHONE and wifi OFF
2.TURN ON (WITHOUT CONNECTING TO COMPUTER)
3.GO INTO CYDIA (AT THIS POINT CYDIA SHOULD NOT WORK)
4.TURN IPHONE OFF
5. TETHER BOOT THE IPHONE
6. turn on wifi and OPEN CYDIA AND UPGRADE ESSENTIALS

so today i jailbroke my ipod touch 4g 5.0.1.. it was successfully jailbroken... but than when i try going to sources and press edit/add, or go on search.. cydia crashes! Anyone else having that problem?

Following these steps will solve the issue of cydia crashing when searching or adding sources.

Thanks Jeff, done with all my devices, although I can't really wait for my iPad 2 and my 4s, those are my main devices I use, my itouch, and iPhone 4 are running great on this jailbreak, note: for the new people jailbreaking, if you have no idea what to do or doing, just stay the way you are, you don't need to jailbreak.

I'm brand new to cydia as of today. I think my jailbreak worked, but I'm unable to install/buy anything. I have a feeling I'm not the only one. How do I get (buy) springtomize? Should I just be patient and wait for things to work themselves out??
