Holy crap I shot a doe right in the killzone with a 30-30 and it still ran about 20 yards before falling. Glad I'm picking up a 30-06 if it's got that kind of stopping power, I'm lazy and don't want to have to track down my dinner after I took the time to find and shoot it.

@gerowen its all in the shot you can shoot it with a 30-30 and drop. some people shoot them in the neck and drops them but the heart is where i lace mine

@kbollhunt2010 i also hunt behind my house lol since there is a big farm there are some huge bucks . isaw a deer and i counted six on one side but i wasnt done counting before he ran lol.. i live in southwestern PA and its rare to see a big buck like tht around my area LOL i just had to reply because i agree with you you dont need to go out west... if i see a buck of any size it's going down ..agree?

@steelersfan3898 i'm not a pro but all u need is 150 grain bullets. i've killed over 20 deer with my 30 06 and they drop like rocks. your choice of course but really just tearing up more meat with 180's.

@r0flc0pt3r5 some ppl like simmons as an affordable scope, and think it has good quality i personaly like leupold however those r on the expensive side. you can probobly find a nikon cheap or a redfield since they just started making them agian. good luck

very nice shot. i also live in the nc i live in pinehurst and am wanting to get a 30-06 for my 14 year old son he owns a 12 gauge and shoots it all the time will the recoil be to strong?

@AzSurvivorBoys Well if he shoots a 12 gauge that much, then a 30.06 wouldnt bother him. My single shot 12 with 3.5 inch Turkey shot kicks twice as hard as my 30.06. I use 180 Grain bullets in my 30.06 and it doesnt kick hard, Its pretty loud though. i started shooting it when i was 11, im 17 now and it has been a great gun. I dont see a problem in your son shooting it.

30-06 and guns like that are a little powerful for white tail. I thought my .270 short mag was powerful..I usually hunt white tail with a .243.

@caleb5665 i have that exact same gun. I have shot multiple deer with it. The last one i shot with it back in December was a 6 point, at 175 yards. Right behind the shoulder, he Dropped. I have never had a deer run after i shot it. I used 150 Grain Bullets this past season. Previous seasons i used 180 grains. But that gun has dropped every deer. I shot a small 4 point that was cornered from me at 30 yards, and blew his whole brisket off.

i think that the 30 06 round is perfect for hunting, but i belive that the .223 round is among the most common used in america (in reply to youmanwhore) 30 06 have tons of power. and i would love to own one myself

30-06 one of the most common hunting rifles...for big game. Gotta love them rarley fail powerfull great riflle to own.. just goes to show what they can do. 5/5

@youmanwhore little over powered for deer huntin i hunt with shotgun and muzzleloader and bow. no rifle here but i would use a 270 if i was deer huntin with rifle
