I will stick with Ethanol. you can run high compression and or high boost and a more aggressive timing with alcohol. i would bet on almost any car that is tuned for alcohol in a race against gas or diesel. plus it burns cleaner.

For vehicles where the torque matters like heavy trucks, a diesel will be quicker than if the truck had a petrol but the same horsepower numbers engines for both because the torque of the diesel will pick up the truck quicker. For cars like these, it shouldn't be too big of a change because they don't need a lot of torque to get moving anyways and gas engines provide enough torque for it along with extra RPM's.

This eco friendly bs is really starting to piss me off. Yes diesel pollutes more than gas but when you factor in that it does way more mpg than gasoline it actually pollutes less for the amount of miles driven. And hybrids suck because they have no power compared to diesels, do similar mpg, cost more to maintain, and cost more in resources to produce than a diesel. Factor in that the US is the Saudi Arabia of coal and that you can convert coal to diesel, we won't need to go to solar for a while.

Even if that is true the diesel is still the better option compared to the hybrid based on all the other factors I mentioned alone.... cheaper to buy, cheaper to make, more reliable, lasts longer, more power and more eco friendly if that is your main focus. The carbon footprint to make a hybrid is much larger than to make a diesel. People today are paying up to 30k for a hybrid because they are purchasing all the insurance for the future problems it will have.

tq makes you quick off the line, hp is top speed. Thats how i tell people how to think of it. If you have every owned/raced a diesel truck with mods you know if they hook they almost always bet you off the line and you catch them at the higher speeds. That also has to do with being in a 8000lbs truck and not a small car. Dpf's also on a diesel would have to be cleaned every 100k or so depending on what bmw does. Diesel arre easy to make more power out of also.diesel is al around better than gas

Damn this was bad. Same sound? Someone should have their ears checked. Torque makes it fast? My ass. High school math - torque, power and revs are in equation. And the white paper? Jesus. Do they really have no idea how a particle filter works? I wonder what the paper would look like when the filter gets flushed. Also keep in mind that the absolutely smallest solid particles (that are pretty much invisible) are by far the most dangerous ones and they can't be caught by the filter.

@driscol1818 If you knew some diesels have to be turbo-ed but twin is over kill its just for performance. Also the gave the ratings at how the 4.5 had more HP they compared then engines towards their power output they are trying to prove the whole torque and HP debate even though u need both and correlate. I am a mechanic and work on both for a living in the Air Force. Also the old mans car didnt even accelerate like he floored it.

I own the new Diesel and yes w/ 425 pound feet of torque and a VERY flat power curve its very fast considering its approx 5300lbs. the gas V8 is actually faster by about .3/100 of a second to 62 mph. But I get 28 mpg on the highway as to there 15 at best. Forget the weezy 6 cylinder gas, its about 1.1 seconds behind the diesel.
