How long have you been studying Chinese languages? Do you only focus on Taiwanese ones?
I saw that you have LOTS of material and honestly I think it's a bit overwhelming. Where do you suggest to start? I have next to no knowledge of Mandarin.
@maximepaquin1 go to my learn Chinese playlist, there about 40 graded basic lessons there with built in review. Go to the Facebook page Glossika Language Training for the text to these lessons. I have over a hundred "notes" there for various languages, so you'll have to browse. Each language I train on YouTube is categorized by playlist.
I don't know why you said it's funny. The website that I gave you is about Taiwanese pronunciation. I am not offending your pronunciation of Taiwanese. Just give you a good reference to improve your Taiwanese pronunciation. And I don't know why this is related to poor pronunciation from English teachers in Taiwan.
@chungweiwang 這句翻成中文"It's funny you say that" 的意思是: "剛好你說到這" 所以你針對這個字funny也沒有用。我原本的意思是,雖然我是外國人教外國人台語,但是我有語言學/國際音標的背景也非常了解這個語言的語音系統,但是我實際講的口音一定會有點差異,那我是比喻台灣人許多老師在教英文但是他們還沒有搞清楚我們英文音系,也只能靠一個許多瑕疵與錯誤的KK音標。
I guess this video will go viral soon :D, at least in Taiwan and maybe other countries that speak the Min Nan or the Hokkien like Malaysia and S'pore. And your mandarin and min nan's pronunciation is good mate. Impressive indeed :D. Keep up the good work, I believe many non-min nan speakers will benefit a lot from your video(s). Ka you :P!

Different shapes of lips and tongue are very important for speaking Taiwanese....U did a great job, better than some Taiwanese, i mean it! But there is a problem with the word"美", when it's not at the end of a name or a phrase, we usually speak the higher one, like "咪", when it's in the end of a name or a phrase, we speak the lower one. for example "阿美(this time it sounds 密)"...
BTW, thanks for the video, even Taiwanese teacher can barely teach at the same way!

I come from Taiwan, Taiwanese, and in fact there is no certain standard syntax, in Taiwan, also due to the north, center of the southern and have different expression syntax, my own not very fluent in Taiwanese, not to get some useful suggestions, hope You continue to fuel
[ps. I just learned a little English, mostly over the use of machine translation, grammar error, but please forgive me]
cool. this language is so fascinating to me and in dramas, its pretty funny. i hear people say "wahhh sehhh" a lot in Taiwanese dramas. what does that mean?
Hi! I'm Antonio from Meixco and I started learning Taiwanese with your videos ^^, but I have a doubt about Taiwanese tones, so, do all tones change even if they are in separate syllables of different words in a sentence, or they just change when they are in two (or more) syllables in one word? For example: 伊是啥人? i sī siánn-lâng? It should be pronounced as: i sī siann-lâng? or ih sì siann-lâng?
@bhebsteph From teaching English for a long time I realized we have the same issue in English regarding liaison and prosody and intonation. It's basically the same. If you say "I get out of bed", you can't stop or pause between the words, but if you say "I got up to go to work" you can pause between up and to. The tone changes apply the same way in Taiwanese in small phrases. There are some words that don't change, I found it easier to remember by thinking about the phrase and not those words.
Nice job, jiayou! Where did you initially find decent books or resources to study Taiwanese? I live in Tainan, but outside of children's school books it's pretty hard to find anything similar to the resources available for learning Chinese (Mandarin).
@bismarck3005 How did I learn Taiwanese? Well, I read a lot about it, I translated my Mandarin course into Taiwanese (and Hakka), I have thousands of sentences translated and recorded into Taiwanese (and Hakka)--and I'm getting ready to publish them in a 3-way format, and I've been practicing speaking Taiwanese for over a decade. So time and experience adds up I guess. I've never seen the kids' books.
My husband said you are pretty good but are missing some of the nuances of the Taiwanese language. By the way, Taiwanese ( Cantonese, etc ) are not dialects but languages because they cannot be understood by each other. Elizabeth
@SueTahn You could say the same of most Taiwanese people trying to teach English. To understand more about the Chinese languages and their intelligibility, please see my article titled "Definition of Chinese Dialect and the Question of Mutual Intelligibility as Applied to Sinitic Taxonomy" published at language dot glossika dot come slash definition-of-chinese-dialect slash.
