Some "pushing buttons technos/hip hop" that calls themselves "musicians", but can't even play correctly 2 chords in a row on a guitar after practicing for a month or more...
This song is my favorite from Zappa, and a reference if you want to know a bit more about Zappa works. I like a lot his "commercial" stuff, because it's "crazy", with plenty of ones of the bests musicians on the planet at that time, playing good music in background!
All I can say is WOW!! Everytime I introduce this to someone, they always say WOW!! Who is this? I say the master FRANK ZAPPA. They say "He is GOOD!!"
It sounds as if there would be -- all of a sudden -- some great creature rising from the ground and it arrived to save the planet from the shit we've done to each other -- humans and animals...
May Zappa reincarnate and go ahead with more complex acts named music. We want it to be real. To play the soundtrack for the beginning of a new humanity. The Great New One...
Not a huge Zappa fan - but this is good. The 2 1/2 minutes around guitar solo is great. This is in my 20-song Zappa favorites collection. The guy had moments of either silliness (to sell tickets I guess) or genius.
Ah, fantastic! Great to see support for Zappa's jazz albums. I'll have to record needledrops of this album, it's one of my favorites. Am I wrong to enjoy The Grand Wazoo more than Hot Rats? This is one of those albums that sounds fantastic even on the cheapest, crummiest plastic turntable. The quality just shines through. (Note: please don't get a cheap, crummy plastic turntable. Hunt down a good one.)
@gamesDAMNED "Blessed Relief" <3 The only thing on Hot Rats that I like as much as the Waka/Jawaka+Grand Wazoo period is "The Gumbo Variations," that rhythm break on that song is about as bad ass as it gets.
Ah, yes..real musical people (a.k..a., those w/ musical knowledge vs. just stupid "rhythymn-beat") know FZ's sound was , and still is, Tops in it's class...altho it is way out of anyone else's class...
@harkrum wow. aren't you the musical genius elitist. well done. it must be great to understand and digest complicated music like you do. we can only dream.
@daliraygun Sorry if the wrong idea is comin' off here...I meant no insult...I just feel FZ's music brought MUSIC to a higher level, perhaps a bit more intricate than the "other guy's"...some folks get it, some don't...I don't think I'm a "musical genius elitist" , and certainly many others can understand and digest complicated music...they need not dream, only to BE and DO!!!....FZ's music DOES happen to be some of the most complicated...
Note how drummer Aynsley Dunbar manages neither to be non-descript, nor to trample the composition with some miserable "groove" we all would have to endure. Thank you (or God) for posting!
Exactly! At 1:26 his fill playing is tight with the snare playing the Rhodes part and the kick accenting making use of space. One of my favorite drummers!
Zappa had been derailroaded off the stage by an obsessive fan a matter of a year before this and before anything else ever happened; after organising this and taking both flak and part in it too, can you blame him
Oh yes! I saw the Grande Mothers Re-invented (all ex mothers of invention like Roy Estrada, Don Preston and Napoleon Murphy Brock) in Trieste the other day! They were STUNNING!
