after watching this, you know what disappoint me about this? Why didn't they make it grander e.g increase the head counts even more. Khal Drogo was in charge of 100k men, yet it never felt like that. Lannisters had 30k men but their camp felt like it was one for a few thousand

@outforsushi Budgets, special effects still cost money, also look at the space within those shots. You can't fit that many men into a shot. I think they did a fantastic job of giving the series an epic sense with good subtlety rather than a balls out in your face movie type budget special effects job.

@hameed I think they are portraying them as white. My guess is they are using the night time setting as an excuse to keep them dark and obscured until we get a good face to face confrontation with them.

@hameed budget is the main reason, if they were to make them white they would have also had to spend a lot more money to make the cgi and effects look realistic and considering we wont be seeing the white walkers until much later in the series im glad they even showed us them in the beginning.. thats just my guess anyways lol, hopefully they will be more detailed when they do eventually show up

Still don't see why they couldn't have included the Battles of the Golden Tooth and the Whispering Wood at the end of the season. Clearly they could. They did it in Rome. The whole season was working itself up to it and all we got was Tyrion getting knocked out before the battle and Lord Robb riding out of the forest after capturing of Jamie. It all was a real let down.

@NordiskLejon Because it was expensive. All the CGI in motion would have killed their budget for the entire year.

Granted it wasn't the best thing, but hopefully some of the battles in book 2 will benefit from the additional 10-20 million HBO has given them for season 2.

The Battle of the Golden Tooth would have been nice but I understand why it was cut but the Whispering Wood was done wonderfully. You can't really tell what is going on in the Whispering Wood in the book either because Cat can't really can't tell what is going on and you are following her for that chapter. The Imp scenes blends perfect and Cat knows she should go, no one knows who won, the horses burst out of the wood, music kicks in, Cat holds back tears... Sorry but PERFECT!!!

@SSVFX Hell yea I love 3ds Max. If you will be doing the VFX for season 2 I recommend the plug-in FumeFx by Sitni Sati for fire effects from the dragon, the battle of Blackwater, etc. Also if you don't mind me asking what was your expertise on the team?
