1999 at the very least, which is also the copyright date of this commercial as shown in the beginning.

And this was Mac OS 9, at least a year before a consumer version of Mac OS 10 (the "X" is a roman numeral) was even in beta testing.

FYI, and please do not take this the wrong way, but there's no such thing as "OS X System 9" for the same reason there's no such thing as "Windows XP Millennium Edition".

Depends.

If you have an old Mac with FireWire and OS X and a new Mac, you can set the old Mac to boot in target mode so the hard drive in the old Mac is treated as an external by the new Mac and you can migrate the account.

If you have a "Time Machine" backup, you can migrate with the backup instead.

But of course, that's Mac. Data migration with Windows can be a hassle.

Yes, the 90's... The old Mac OS (without the X) was old, and needed refreshing. They completely rebuilt the OS with the X later on.

The old OS was... old, and lacked functions such as preemptime multitasking, and if you ask me, the GUI needed some refreshment as well... Not that Windows looked any better; on the contrary, actually.
