I had heard,at the time this(the Concert reunion performance) was done, that it was videotaped for PBS, but that it never aired. obviously this tape is not professionally done. What I meant was, does any more of the show exist, other than Ladies? I"d love to see Beth doing Not Getting Married....and this is fabulous to even have this....Thanks for uploading.
Michael Bennett choreographed this: and yes there are parts that of the dance that, if not identica,l certainly are reminiscent of his 'Music And The Mirror' choreography for 'A Chorus Line"
This woman was born in 1940 or 1942 depending on one's source of information, so this is a 50 year old.............damned extraorinary. She was always know for the beauty of her arm and upper body movement. Wonderful to see this.
Actually, this isn't a question to you, rodanvideo-it's for Norina1982, who had the 2006 clips on her channel before they got taken down. This video and another video were the only ones that still worked on the playlist. The only reason I am asking here is because Norina1982's comments are not working. If you can find a way to Norina1982's comments, post my question please. I really want to know what happened to Company.
I went to Norina's profile-page and it looks to me like a message can be sent. Try there.
As far as Company 2006, I searched it, and there are still some clips available... But why do you need them. PBS [TV] aired it two months ago, and they'll probably do it again!
Hey orchestralmagician -- I don't see any very particular connection between this orchestration and A Chorus Line's. If you're talking about the music itself, this does have similar-sounding notes at 2:20 that "Music and the Mirror" from Chorus Line does when it starts to build up from quiet to loud in the last couple minutes of that number.
But the music here was the same music from the original production of Company in 1970, which pre-dates A Chorus Line, so it's definitely not an homage.
@evans54 Some of the dance moves here remind me of Turkey Lurkey time and A Chorus Line, so maybe these moves where then used in A Chorus Line? I don't know but it seems pretty similar.
okay. let me begin by saying that i am very familiar with the show Company.
now comes the question.
Tick Tock in the original show...was it recorded lines and then Donna dancing? and is Donna the girl who Bobby seduces while Tick Tock is being sung or is it the girl who played April? please can someone explain this number...it confuses me.
Bobby brings home a flight attendant, while they are in bed Donna dances.
The original show is available on video at the performing arts library in New York.
It's pretty ghastly -bad sound, blurry - what a shame. They were incredibly negligent in those days not to capture this magic on film -when they most certainly had the technology to do so.
There should be a law stating that a show has to be documented before it can open - like a building permit!
Right - you can only watch it, you have to say you're doing it as a research project. I think most shows now are properly documented..But in those days I guess they just took stuff like that for granted.
Looking around You Tube more, I see that there are lots of performances from the Tony's.
There's a great number Turkey Lurkey from Promises Promises with Donna McKechnie - and another posting with Seth Rudetsky analyzing it - its fantastic.
Like others, I thought that Donna McKechnie's performance of Tick Tock was lost to the ages, and that I would never have the chance to see her do this. How wonderful to see the original choreography, and see Ms. McKechnie dance it so brilliantly. What a treasure, to see a performer knock it out so beautifully, so many years after the original. And how true that the passion and wisdom of age only adds to the power and impact of the dance. Thank you thank you for posting this. What a joy.
I met her once through a friend and was speechless. I saw her in PROMISES PROMISES, C0MPANY, ANNIE WARBUCKS (I met her after that show), I'M GETTING MY ACT TOGETHER...(in Chicago), FOLLIES (NJ), snd more. Thanks for uploading this clip.
Now I understand why this gets cut. Where do you find a talent like that these days? This woman give you her heart while she dances up a storm. Thank you so much for sharing this.
who could NOT like this ?

wasn't this supposed to air on PBS? What happened and where is the rest of it?
allanfisch 8 months ago
@allanfisch If it was to be on PBS, there would be more than amateur camera-video work. What do you mean "where is the rest of it"?
rodanvideo 8 months ago
It's truly a blessing to be able to have such a celebrated and long career ans still be a dancer first.

And this woman was how old?!?! Yes she is the ultimate triple threat

Great to see, but the tempo is deadly. Were they passing out Ambien to the orchestra?

Hey, why were the videos for the 2006 version of company removed from your playlist?
harrietamidala1691 3 years ago
Hey, why are you asking here? I never had those 2006 clips on my playlist.
Hey, to answer your question - think of these two words, "copyright infringement."

Does anybody realize @ 2:20 that for a bit the orchestrations are similar (if not an homage to A Chorus Line)?
orchestralmagician 3 years ago
I don't realize it.. In fact - I don't hear it. Are you sure?

Yeah. You are Correct. I've been so busy arranging music...so kudos to catching my mistake.
orchestralmagician 3 years ago 2
Company was 1970 or so and Chorus Line 1975 so could not be an homage to Chorus Line
evans54 3 years ago 6
@evans54 but this particular concert was done after CL.
bertiejr 1 year ago
@bertiejr but its a re-creation of the 1970 number' and Michael Bennett's work from that show- not Chorus Line

@orchestralmagician she also does a move from CL at about 1:20 or so.

@orchestralmagician Actually, it's the other way around. Company was produced in 1970, long before A Chorus Line was.

This is some of the most brilliant choreography ever. Bennet was a genius. Only McKechnie could match his brilliance with her dance.
Absolutely stunning.
