Since these are a pain in the ass to make and apples go bad in a few days; I'll make up a whole bag of apples at once and freeze them. I actually prefer them after they are frozen. I've also noticed that the apple oxidizing can give some off flavors, so rubbing it with some lemon juice will keep that from happening.

It's harder to make but I've done a funnel bowl before with an apple.

What I'm curious about is that when I tried the bowl (mind you I've only done it once) it seemed like it was much more resistant to burning the tobacco. I could put LOTS of heat on top and get really strong smoke but not burn it. Eventually i did burn it because I wanted to see how far I could go, but the concept is very cool, and I was wondering if you've noticed how it resists burning as well.
