Tony Joe wrote it and sings it damn well. Brook Benton made it his signature song, and did the original honor. Shelby takes it to new emotional depths. The woman absolutely finds the emotional essence of every song she performs, whether they be hers or others' songs. In my opinion, Shelby is the gold standard as a singer/songwriter.
