  • do you have any videos on carbs

  • ทำเองแน่

  • hey car guy my one question is im trying to do this on a 2001 grand prix and my control arm is a little different meaning the screw nut is topside instead of bottom and i unscrewed the nut and hit knuckle with hammer but arm still tight what do you think it is?

  • i did my ex gf axles and clutch before she left me, danm i regret working on her car and not charging her. word of advice always charge lol eric u probably know this

  • My mechanic would put anti seize compound on the spline before putting it back into the hub.

  • thank for that. i just got my new axles and had'nt seen the c-clip style yet. i had roll pins in my last. 2005 subaru outback 200k with oem axles. new ones from partsgeekcom for 55$ each.

  • After the axle was in and lower ball joint and axle were installed into the hub, why did you chisle a mark into the axle and 36 mm nut?

*trying to replace my passenger axle on a 05 tsx. (vibrating issues during ACCLERATION 55-65 mph ONLY)

  • I thought i'd share a couple tips :

1- Use a punch in the center hole of the axle to hammer on it, that way you don't mushroom the tip

2- When using the breaker bar, if you put your weight on it, it's less effective than if you use your strenght to pull on it upward. Most people can pull 200lbs+ for a short period upward and not all people weight 200+ lbs :-)

  • Hi Eric,

Great video as always!!!! One comment though...Thor's hammer is called Mjolnir..... ;-)))

  • Awesome video man. Very insightful! Yeah I have a 88crx project I'm working on. And this is my next step. Thanks for the video

  • Wow great video Eric! thanks for the help all the way from New Zealand :D

  • thanks for the video ill will do the next axle job my self ..thanks for the video good work

  • I wanted to thank you for posting this video !!! I just replaced the passengers side lower control arm on my mothers 95 ford windstar. Before i attempted the task of replacing it , I decided to check out a few Videos on youtube. your video is very helpful . Keep up the good work!!! P.S. Gotta love the power of the internet!!!

  • 1:45, yeah I upgraded to the six foot steel pipe variety. Make sure your breaker bar is a namebrand that does free exchanges... Acura Legends forever!

  • Eric, Please do one on a P11 Infiinity G20, or also known as Primera P11, or skyline R33 & R34.

They got much more pain in the ass front suspension :D doing mine now, and was looking for tips on losening the hub, as I have upper bearing arm and lower, and much crap this car you show obv dont have :P

  • I have a 2003 toyota corolla CE , and It broke down today. and my AAA tow truck guy said it might be my axle , driver side.

I just replaced my transmission fluid yesterday 2/6/2012

i was at a green light and all of a sudden my car made a grinding noise.

    helpful tips please

  • Hey Eric, your videos are so good, and your explanation on how to do and what to look for ie the tricks of the trade so to speak, you make it look so easy,,thanks a lot,,from OZ

  • I finally changed my axle out yesterday. Can't drive it yet though because i'm waiting on some MT-90 to be delivered to my local auto parts store. I lost a lot of fluid when I took the axle out. I didn't lose any fluid when I changed the passenger side axle 2 years ago. Strange. Great video Eric, it really helped me out. Thanks.

  • wow. Great video!

  • whats up my peeps..

  • Eric you champion. I was changing the axle on my magna and the damn thing wouldn't budge, saw your vid. We raised the car a tad more, seeing as you pry'd it so easily and tada, it came out. Thanks heaps.

  • Thanks so much, Eric! I have an 01 Kia where the CV joint has just gone to hell. I'm super scared of doing any work on it because it never ends well for me, but at least I'll be able to get started after watching this.

  • thanks alot man

  • how do yu know if yu have a broken axle

  • @7dramabeats I understand that there's usually a loud clicking noise when you turn. If you hear that noise, it's time to replace your CV shaft. In theory, if you catch a broken boot (the rubber parts on the shaft) early enough, you can replace the boot instead of the whole shaft.

  • @apotheosis21 thanks, i found out both my boots are ripped this weekend and i didnt know if i should just buy the boots or wait til the axle breaks, but i think im just going to buy the boots cus its way cheaper

  • Thanks Eric now i know how to change an axle.

  • thanks for showing, and sharing us your skills... this video help me change a Front Wheel Drive Axle for a 92 audi 100. Now shes runnig good.. If it wassent for this tip, ive would of been paying alot of money for someone eles do it for me. thanks again. also, good HD video

  • Eric I am so mad that you didnt replace that cotter pin...im so pissed.... haha not really

  • holy shit i was freaking out when i seen that car with only 2 lug nuts !!!! haha

  • eric, i just did this to my santa fe now it goes a little to the right is this normal?

  • If the the cotter key will not come out,you can drill it out.Leave the nut on when doing this.Make sure you have a good sharp drill bit on hand

  • Hey, quick question. How do you replace the lower ball joint that you had to knock loose at the beginning of the video? I think mine is cracking and dry and no longer sealed and needs to be replaced.

  • Hey Eric i have a question for most of these newer model cars would changing the cv axel be similar to car axel you've just change? I want to know how to change a 2007 Toyota Camry cv axel!!

  • as one of the posts here, i did use the jack as force on the arm and the rocking of the car wasn't as dramatic. Nevertheless, if you have the girth as you put it, go for it. excellent tips.

  • would that be a 1 beer job

  • rock on with the 2lb ball peen!!!

  • You need a hoist as much mechanical work as you do.

  • This help me a lot whit mi honda accord 96

  • Awesome video, thanks a whole lot!

  • how to replace outer cv joint renault cleo

  • Its easier to put the socket wrench at the 3 or 4 o'clock position and use the floor jack to jack it up. That way you can use the weight of the car and the ease of a jack.

  • Good Video Eric

  • what if the lower balljoint nut just spins and doesnt come off

  • one man army!!! good job man...thanks for the info...

  • Very good video thanx Eric!

  • about to do my 94 accord... this looks like it is will help me out a lot

  • You are awesome

  • Ahh, CV boot grease, or as I call it "alien snot."

  • Damn, where were you like 3 years ago when I was doing this for the first time by myself?? Lol. This is awesome. Cool video.

  • This was a great video - I'm getting ready to do this same thing to my 98 Honda Accord - seeing Eric do the steps was awesome - Great job - Thanks Eric

  • is the intro of that car double clutching from bullit?

  • and also, merry Christmas man. This videos are really enjoyable and educational.

  • Seems like releasing that wheel drive axle was not that hard, a few weeks later got my car repaired, the clutch disc was messed up and the guy who changed the whole clutch kit put both drive axles away, FWD. I saw all of it, was a bit tricky. I guess that automakers sometimes missed the part where the maintenance comes in. If you don't have the right tools or just don't want to tear everything apart, a rutine work becames a little less than a nightmare. I really enjoy your videos.

  • im doing an h22 swap in my 94 accord ex and the lower ball joints are being stubborn.. i dont have a fork so im trying a sludge hammer..im having no luck :( and i got pissed and broke my mirror yay me

  • I really like your Videos and I like the american style to repair cars.

Wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,

    Andy from Rheinland-Pfalz/Germany

  • @ACartec What's the German style? Just curious. I thought there's only one way to repair cars... i.e. disassembly->repair->reassembly. ??

  • @walterbrunswick "German Style" usually refers to torquing things down. "Gutentite" would be the German torque method... haha.

  • Are you supposed to torque the axle nut down to specs? Or is it just okay to get it really tight?

  • @nobo631 im sure theres specs. but everyone just makes sure its tight

  • Eric you are freaking awesome! Your car repair videos rock!

  • merci beaucoup, vous etes tres sympatiques

  • Need help in changing BMW e46 4D motor Mounts! Please if you could!

    Appreciated!

  • good job man!!

  • Very helpful,thanks!

  • Hey E. If you can't seem to break that axle nut can you use a breaker bar and socket let the bar rest on the floor and slowly back the car up to loosen that nut?

  • What brand of breaker bar was that? It had a lot of flex but held up.

  • Well poo. I wish I watched this before I replaced my axles. I used the separator to dislodge the ball joints & tie rod ends and punctured the boots. Your way is much better. Oh well, hindsight 20/20.

  • Highlight quote of the vid that made me laugh: "This is THOR" HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • question i wana do a alighment on my 97 gmc jimmy and i was told the ball joints go bad and i dont wana pay them more than 60 for the alighment (thatthey charge)im just woundering if i replace them would the price still be 60 or what idk cause i paid 400 last time i got a car alighned and all it needed was a tie rod

  • When you say to put the wheel back on the ground to tighten the wishbone, those that mean to put the tire back on, lower the car, tighten bolts, lift car, take tire off? just want to make sure!

  • Dirty ? i stay filty ,thats how i roll : )

  • Great video! Any plans to do videos of good Jeep Grand Cherokee ( ZJ ) repairs?

  • @bobbyhosweden I did one a while back on the steering linkage repair.

  • Apply Kroil to the nut the day before, comes off easy as pie

  • Just did this fix on my 96 accord. Everything is working great! Thanks for your videos!

  • @cab256 I'm glad the video helped, thanks for the comment.

  • @cab256 How many miles on your 96 Accord? I have 193,000 on my '94 Pontiac Sunbird and haven't changed the drive axles yet. Was once told that they are bullet-proof. And sure enough they seem to be.

  • sorry if this has been asked but did you lose any fluid during this... i think im about to do this on my wifes mazda m3? this job looks to be pretty straight foward and is something im sure i can do . atleast i think this is the problem with her car..

  • @73bowtie No I didn't and honestly I don't normally on Hondas but I did recommend putting the pan under the trans just in case.

  • @EricTheCarGuy sorry, do I have to remove the oil first?

  • @EricTheCarGuy hey eric i have a cv shaft that goes in flush then when i tighten it up it pulls the boot and when i put it in gear (up in the air) it pops out and just giggles around...what do i need todo?

  • Nvrmind. I didn't even read the title

  • @dolphman85 You should watch the video too. :)

  • Great video Eric. Thank you so much. How different is the process for a front wheel drive car?

  • wud u have to do an alignment after????

  • @ObsessedWitGuitar No not usually.

  • Молодец.!!!

  • Cute and dry......perfect. Thanks.

  • Eric, thanks so much for the video on axle removal. I was able to learn enough to tackle the replacement of the half axle on my Audi A4 Cabriolet. Everything has worked out great. I really liked the "hit what it goes through" advice. Very helpful.

  • @rjlauber I'm very glad to hear that my video helped you, it's what I live for. Thanks for the comment.

  • Was a bit different on my Cavalier, and the axle came out easily... but the new one didn't want to go into the transmission as far as it should... the method I used to get it in there probably isn't GM approved, but oh well.

Even though the car in this video was a good bit different than my car, I do appreciate it because it made me realize that this job isn't the major project I thought it was going to be.

  • @eliw4232 It is my goal to demystify the world of auto repair so thanks for your comment.

  • Is it ok to use a little bearing grease on the c clip? I saw another video on here and the guy in that video uses a little grease on the spline and c clip. The grease holds the clip centered I guess, making the shaft go in easier.

  • @ih8suvz I don't think it would hurt but I've never found it necessary.

  • @EricTheCarGuy I'll try whatever it takes to make this go fast and smooth. I just don't want to spend hours fighting this thing.

  • thanks heaps mate. ur a funny guy lol

  • @t351bone I'm happy to help, thanks for the comment.

  • Wow you're not suppose to use an impact on the spindle nut since that is setting the preload on the axle bearing.

  • hey whats ur accent? ur from USA yeah?

  • @FamousByFamily Indeed it is USA.

  • Thank you very much indeed !

  • @faizhabib1970 You're welcome, thanks for the comment.

  • eric, im trying to change my axle on my 93 civic.. i cant seem to get that axle nut off.. a friend recommended using a torch and even that didnt work. we broke 2 breaker bars.. any more advice you can give me? we also tried using an electric impact wrench.. it just wont budge. help please!

  • @OMGYouJustKilledIt First I don't recommend using a torch, I also recommended using a jack and the weight of the car to try and break it loose, some are worse than others. I've even had people tell me that they went to the local garage just to have them break the nuts loose with an impact. Good luck.

  • you are my effn hero. no joke. Fixing my axle and i know how to do it cuz of you.. Thank you

  • @datjerzeynigga1 It's like music to my eyes, thanks for the comment.

  • I'll be replacing the drive axle on my 01 Mitsubishi Mirage next week, and I can't seem to find what size cotter pins I need to buy to replace the old ones.

  • @BrodieMike1 I don't think it will be an issue if you just reuse the old ones, I've done that for years without a problem but it's up to you, it is recommended that you replace cotter pins so I'm not going to pretend that's not good practice.

  • @BrodieMike1 My 1994 Honda Accord uses 3/32 inch cotter pins. If it was supposed to be metric, well then, I'm wrong. I found stainless steel replacements at the Home Depot hardware store. One simple way to find the size you need is to push a drill bit through the hole backwards. The largest bit that passes through the hole without binding is close enough for the purpose.

  • Very well explained... I was looking up to replace the wheel bearing of my 2005 Toyota Sienna, after taking the tire off and running the engine on drive the noise comes from somewhere middle in the axle and gear box end and not from the bearing housing area.... could you please help if there is any other bearing in the axle giving trouble other than the wheel bearing one... Thanks.

  • @faizhabib1970 Honestly without hearing it for myself it's impossible for me to say but normally if it's an axle problem it will 'click', wheel bearings make a different type of noise. Hopefully you don't have a problem with the transmission itself. Good luck.

  • Awesome vid.

  • Thanks car guy I was able to replace my axle in less than 30 min on my 1992 prelude Great info like a live alldata...lol

  • @TheAlphadog31 I love it, thanks for sharing your experience.

  • Thanks Eric. I fixed My axles last weekend and it was a success. Thanks tons! You saved me a lot of money!

  • @xxdemasterxx I love success stories and saving people money. Thanks for the comment.

  • I really should have checked that the new axle was properly seated in the differential, but I didn't like putting my head under the car for a good look. My friend was kind to me and did not make me feel like a fool for not having done the procedure correctly. He said that grease helps hold the clip and ensures that it will set properly when put in the transmission. That's from a Honda mechanic for those who want to try this on their own.

  • @CincyPlasmaTech Trust me we all do stuff like this at one time or another, it's how we learn. Thanks for sharing your experience.

  • I went home with a loosened wheel nut. I changed the axle, rotor, and wheel bearing. I was pretty happy. I drove around the yard, but it didn't sound right. I still had the other axle to do, so I wasn't sure how much noise was coming from the new install. I had to be sure, so I took it on the road and got maybe 500 ft before the axle spun out and I lost power coupled from transmission to wheel. $50 to tow it to my friend. $50 to reinstall the axle and fish out the broken clip. I rly shud hv chkd

  • @CincyPlasmaTech Yikes, that sucks.

  • I couldn't get the wheel nut off. I know my car was the exception, because I practiced on ten other wheel nuts in the junk yard. I forced the issue and broke my breaker bar. I took the car to a friend who has air tools. His 500lb air wrench would not loosen it, so he used his 1500lb air wrench and that failed too. Last he used a breaker bar with the longest handle I have ever seen, added three feet of pipe to make what looked like to me a 6 foot bar. That worked! Then he put the 500lb air wrench

  • @CincyPlasmaTech I've had to go there a time or 2 myself, thanks for the comment.

  • Guy looks like George Clooney!

  • @MrBradbaxr8 Now if I could only hook up with Catherine Zeta Jones....

  • This man has saved me so much money over the years.thanks and keep up the great job, Eric.

  • @sage0187 I love saving people money it's an awesome feeling, thanks for your comment.

  • Your voice reminds me of Mike Rowe's voice from Discovery.

  • @IRideYouRide Hight complements indeed, I love Mike Rowe. (no homo)

  • I have to change the drivers side axle on my 98 200SX. I'm scared of that c clip giving me grief. You make it look so simple. My passenger side axle was easy to do. I just pulled on it and it slid right out.

  • @ih8suvz Keep spinning it and trying it at different spots, sometimes they can be stubborn. They also make a slide hammer attachment that will also help if yo can track one of those down.

  • I need help ok. So I was out Lisa hot rod in my car and I rev the motor and popd the clutch and it popd outa gear and made a bad sound now all it does is the spedo gos up but the car won't move Plz email me at kodye1@live.com if u can help

  • @kodye414 Hard to say really, sounds like you might have broken something, sounds like it might be easy to find however.

  • hey eric your the best...you make it seem so simple..i have a question is their a diffrence from replacing the left and right axle? Also would it be the same on a 98 accord? Thanks and keep up the good work:)

  • @karla123088 It's pretty much the same on both sids. Good luck.

  • 5 people replaced there axle thinking its the noise and it was the brake pads lol

  • @Bryanx89 then those people realized you're a effing moron for posting shiz.

  • Great video...I'm changing my axles tomorrow on my 1994 honda civic. Hope everything goes good and easy. Your video helped me out thanks

  • @jmorcivic I hope so too, good luck.

  • i have a 1990 integra im at the piont were im getting the axle loose but i need to replace the lug studs i have 3 broke there isnt enough clearence behind the hub how does the hub come off ive been beating the hell out of it

  • @420killaseth You may need to remove the hub, sometimes you can replace studs without removing it but not often. I hope to do a video on this at some point.

  • Sorry Eric. I meant should I drain the transmission fluid before I do the passenger side

  • Hey Eric. Great video. I actually just replaced my drivers side axle yesterday and it was successful thanks to this video. I have the same car as the one in this video and I was wondering what the difference is between the driver side and passenger side. Do I have to drain the transmission fluid before I do the drivers side? Thanks

  • @xxdemasterxx You shouldn't need to drain the fluid, it should work similar to the other side. Good luck.

  • eric,i just bought a new driver's side cv axle for my 1994 plymouth voyager and i noticed that it didn't come with a spring ring that goes in the groove to secure the axle in the transmission, should i buy a new one or use the spring ring from the old cv axle? thanx

  • @bleep2111 I would first try to use the one off of the old axle, it's weird that the new one didn't come with one.

  • Thanks man, think I'm gonna try to change the axles on my 2007 Saturn Aura myself. Hope it goes as smooth as your video.

  • @TheJoesailor I hope so too, good luck.

  • @noterngbck10 all 88-00 civics -- 86-01 integras is 32mm axle nut

  • hey eric I changed my cv axles today on my 96 integra and the axle I got didn't have the balancer, my old busted one had it...do I need this balancer?? I notaced the axle you replaced for the accord didn't have the balancer either

  • @Jx1x3 It's not a balancer but rather a damper to help reduce vibration. I've never had any ill effects that I know of from installing axles without the damper.

  • i have a 94 civic, to take of the axle nut do i use a 32 33 34 35 36 mm socket?

  • @noterngbck10 32mm

  • Is this process similar for a 1993 Subaru Imprezza, AWD, Standard Transmission vehicle?

  • @Eph61020 I think it's similar yes.

  • @EricTheCarGuy i have a 1991 toyota 4x4, the front axles are broken, do i replace the axles the same way??

  • One question. At 13:27, exactly what was that step meant to accomplish? It seems like you chipped something off...

  • @DB5tothehive I believe you are referring to staking the axle nut, it's just an added precaution to keep the nut from coming loose.

  • This was a great video. It amazes me how closely the steps he took resemble something from my Haynes manual.

  • @DB5tothehive I did not know that but thanks for the comment.

  • hey eric, i have a civic 2007, im gonna do this job to my car soon. my car needs the same procedure that you explained on this video?

  • @medalla22 It's very similar yes, good luck.

  • I love your videos man. You're awesome

  • @adriannnf Thank you! I love your comment.

  • hey my whey does my front right axel to my honda keep breaking 1st time it happend it came out the axel socket then the 2nd time it tottaly just broke where the boot is idk what the hell is going on with it but everybody is telling me my suspension is to low but thats dumb cause if it was my suspension dont yu thing my right axel be breaking too yeah so i dont even know what to do any suggesgions pleasse??

  • @Royaltyz9Oh9 It may very well be your suspension. If the driveline angle is wrong it will put the joints into a bind as they try to work and they may break as a result.

  • i did this today but the lower ball joint will not come out! i even hit it like you did and still nothing, do you have any tips?

  • @Purpl3scar3cr0w A bigger hammer, I have yet to run into one that didn't come loose using this method. You might also try a method that I saw in a video that used a socket wedged between the lower control arm and steering knuckle to help break it loose, I can't post the link but you could do a search for the video and I'm sure you'll find it.

  • @EricTheCarGuy thanks eric! i ened up buying a pickle fork and it got it off, ur videos were usefull as hell though.

  • @Purpl3scar3cr0w I hate using those things because they tend to cut the dust boots but if it worked for you great, thanks for the update.

  • I really enjoy and appreciate your videos. You take the time to explain things and you make sure we can see the parts you're talking about. I'm also impressed with your interaction with people who have questions. Keep up the great work!
