  • Who cares the war was 150 years ago we should not be so judgmental because that's what started the civil war we should see

Past that there are no more battle lines we should all stand together as one perfect nation plus both sides were right in my opinion... I just had to through my thoughts in

  • @neatoday The nation is just as divided as it was 150 years ago.

  • I wish the Confederates won...

  • 20TH MAINE!!!

  • This is the best scene of the entire movie, in my opinion! I love it!

  • BAYONETSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

  • 20th Maine, FORWARD!

  • LOL look at the fat union die at 2:40

  • The music is irritating to me. It's ridiculously over-the-top. It's the reason I can't watch this movie in it's entirety.

  • Joshua L Chamberlain is one of the greatest Generals ever, and what he did att Apommatox gives him more tribute

  • @hupoi i agree him and the 20th maine are the best i did my final history project on the 20th maine

  • If when Chamberlain yells "bayonets", every red blooded guys doesn't get a chill down his spine..I don't know what....just a great part of this wonderfull movie...

  • GGGrandaddy Corker fought you Yankees on the 2nd day charged your lines and lee saw him next to a yankee cannon. Captured he led a good life after the war. I defend our Confederate heritage against anyone who would defile his name. Long live the South!

  • 2:38 look at that guy fall. my god, ive seen less pathetic falls in civil war reinactments.

  • STAND FIRM YE BOYS FROM MAINE!

The 20th Maine, the reason we won Gettysburg.

  • @ThePortlandPirates not only gettysburg even the entire war if the the union would have been beaten at gettysburg lee would have taken washington the confederacy would have been victorious

  • Chamberlain was and always will be one of the best officers of the Civil War-on both sides.

  • This is one of the best parts of the movie.

  • This is my most favorite part of the entire movie. To think that a professor of rhetoric and natural religion could be such a military commander of his caliber. May God bless him in heaven for saving this country! We love you, Gen. Chamberlain!

  • One of the most accomplished Americans in our history. Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, President of one of the most prestigious colleges in America, Governor of Maine, war hero, academic who spoke seven languages, and General.

  • See, the fault with the Confederates here is...they shoulda gone t' da riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight...

  • Gettysburg was a great movie only problem is that all their extra's were volunteer reenactors who suck at acting.

  • I'm doing a report on this battle and a diarama. can anyone explain what it is that happened exactly?!?!?!?!? HELP!

  • @sway32greek

    lmao

  • Chamberlain---my favorite figure in the battle for Gettysburg. A schoolteacher who believed in the mission. He deserved and won the Congressional Medal of Honor for this action. What a guy!

  • @rickcee He was indeed one of the best on the field. Not bad for no formal military training.

  • suicide charge as they use to call it.

  • @seamuspowers Nah, that's one of the things I like about it... the bravery to make the judgment call made all the difference. :)

  • @seamuspowers Yeah, well, under normal situations I'd agree that it was a suicide charge. However, he was left completely without options. He was told by Strong Vincent that he had to hold the left flank that day on Little Round Top. He and his men were never resupplied with ammo. What to do? They had no choice but to either stand where they were and die or retreat, which was not in the list of possible options. Sure, he could have disobeyed orders, but it's obvious he was not that type.

  • Dunno if I would have retreated, but I don't think I would have had the guts to charge; braver man than I would have been.

  • @hoosieryank1967 I'm with you, Hoosieryank. What to do? You're given a direct order with the gravity of "if they get around your flank, they attack us from behind and destroy the entire union line." You have no ammo, and here comes Johnny. Incredible dilemma. But remember how imbued with "mission" these guys were--both sides. Only 4 wars I can think of carried that sense of mission for each and every man: Revolutionary, 1812, Civil War and WWII. All other US wars have been travesties.

  • makes me proud to be a mainer

  • Long live the Union!

  • @Linkster2o sorry but its not a "UNION" if one side uses force to make the other side do what they want that is called "DICTATORSHIP" also underming the fore fathers view of america historicly speaking this is why im glad my ancestors "CONFEDERATES" killed so many yankees

  • @Southernjuggalo63 down, boy. the war ended many years ago.

  • @FionMacCumhail and so did america hence us owing trillions of dollars to a communist country the CONSTITUTION means nothing anymore yeah u should be glad the north won what to screw up american yankees thanks

  • @Southernjuggalo63 .... You do recognise than many of the soldiers fighting for the Union were poor immigrants conscripted right off the boat or farmers who knew very little about the politics of the time right?

Also, even if they held the ideologies they were fighting for.. hasn't killing for ideologies been a bad thing? Whether it be Christianity, Expansionism, Facism or Communism,

  • @rangergxi yes you are correct many immigrants were tricked into fighting for the north

  • @Southernjuggalo63 or forced.

  • @Southernjuggalo63 or forced.

  • @rangergxi yep many southerners were also first since the confederacy was the first to institute a draft in war

  • This particular part of the Battle of Gettysgburg is still manditory study material for Officer Cadets of the US Army. A brilliant piece of leadership by Col. Chamberlain.

  • To get an idea of what a great leader Joshua L. Chamberlain was read the book "Joshua L. Chamberlain, the soldier and the man". It's too bad we don't have a great leader like him in the White House today,

  • @Fredswampfox White House? Where would we even find a guy like this for ANYTHING, let alone President. Special guy, no doubt, and so cerebral. Spoke something between 7-9 languages. And what a `civilized' guy too. His outlook on racial equality and his love of academics. Then, to be so stalwart and stoic in battle and then all the remaining days of his life, during which he lived with great physical disabilities that eventually killed him, but never kept him from his work. Amazing guy huh?

  • damn good movie, though the battle scenes lack the gritty realism of more modern war films. THe acting of the officers is very solid though.
