I remember when it first came out it said when the lights go on at wrigley field.....well they put lights on there so now it's when they put a dome on wrigley field.
I can remember being 6 or 7 years old and my dad singing this song as we went down the road, he always tried to sing the deep part...lol, good memories. Give this a thumbs up if this song reminds you of past smiles and good times. I miss you daddy.....
I LOVE Phil!! I agree, he didn't sing solo or lead enough. He has an amazing voice! I love this song, even better with Don and Phil in the lead together.
Phil takes the lead vocals on a lot of their album tracks that weren't radio singles. Many fans have said he's the best singer in the group. There tuners of a summer 2011 reunion tour and one of the shows might be at the Georgia mountain fair.
they did a little lyric change in the song talking about wrigley field. original lyric was when the lights go on at wrigley field, change was when they put a dome on wrigley field
I have a CD of the Statlers' Live Wheeling, W. Va. Concert in which they sing this song..Harold went through the story of why they changed the lyric..He said "It didnt matter to us one way or the other..Just almost ruined a good song"
i have a tape with them and harold tells the store about the change. there were getting letters in the office saying poeple wish they did sooner so wish they didnt put in the light it didnt matter to then so they changed the words.
@DogEars93 On their live album they said something along the lines of, "They just had to put lights at Wrigley Field and screw up a perfectly good song." LOL
Yeah, Lord, you DO see! A while back, I said goodbye to the lady whom I thought was the love of my life. And I did it in the Pennsylvania State House, AKA Independence Hall. And it wasn't about ANYTHING but America. She and I both went all the way back to 1620,. But blood isn't enough. You have to FEEL it. You have to KNOW that those wealthy, landed Gentlemen, dead these 12 generations are watching. It's your call. Freedom will die or live on YOUR watch. AND, YOU will answer.
The original line was "when the lights go on at Wrigley Field" but the lights finally did go on, so they changed the line to "when they put a dome on". These guys were funny as hell, love 'em
I love this song. I broke up with a jerk in 84' by dedicating this song to him

Been to see these guys 4 or 5 times over a 30 yrs period. They are one of those musical acts that sound as good or better than their recorded music.

Notice Phil takes Lews old solo parts in this version, as opposed to letting Jimmy take them.

This is a very good song however this is not the original version. The original had the line.
When lights go up at Wrigley Field. They changed the song after they put lights up in the late 80's
