Someone asked why people take their screwups so seriously: because movies were filmed and usually released in a very short time period. EVERYONE was on a tight schedule.
@ilikemusicandvideo I guess they were just serious actors, but yeah, it does seem like some people are genuinely ticked. I guess if it's like the fifteenth take or something it would get annoying. To me it just gives credit to their professionalism--they didn't want to goof off.
@Lissbirds While some probably did, I'm guessing that not all of them swore this much everyday--these are moments of intense frustration, most likely. I could be wrong though.
Nobody here seems to have commented on the short segment at 1:59 where the old guy ( I know him, but can't think of the name) threatens to slap the actress' ass as she bends over!!
I'm honestly not at all surprised. I'd be surprised if it was like Greer Garson or somebody, but Olivia DeHavilland played mostly the free-spirit roles that had used to belong to Norma Shearer (albeit not at WB) at the beginning of her career, so this just seems right! :-)
Wow i can't see Olivia de Havilland saying things like son of a bitch. I can't even see her saying Christ! but i just did! wow those were wicked funny! thanks.
I like the bit -- in the '39 one I think it is -- where Errol lets slip something like "you're a damn good flyer"... Whoops, couldn't say that back then, ha.
I agree Ags072889 i expected it from Errol after reading his autobio he says that alot but Olivia! Shock Shock horror horror, lol..she says in style though!
thanks for showing this!

why did people use to take the mistakes so seriously?
ilikemusicandvideo 1 year ago
@ilikemusicandvideo I imagine because, especially during the war, film was comparatively scarce and expensive, so mistakes cost the studios money.

@classicsfan10 I think you're right. I think their language/frustration was because they took their jobs seriously as actors and actresses.
Smalltowngal29 1 year ago
wow they really did censor language in the movies back then. They admit everything these days.
But anyway has anyone tried to talk in the same way they did today. They seem to talk much faster in those days.

We weren't suffocated with political correctness in 1944. Light cursing was a part of our culture.
It was the "real world".America was at war. Our rights were unabridged.
