Believe it or not I "partied" with this band just before "Fly Like an Eagle" was released at he hotel we were all staying at...Mr Miller really knows how to hold court! Talked about himself & his music for hours, but a very nice guy & nice band guys too.
My dad played drums with Les Paul. On a tuesday at Fat Tuesdays he was giving me guitar advice. He kept saying "STYLE not Speed man" and "I invented the damn thing Y'know" (I knew) and "I taught little Stevie Miller to play Y'know, and look how much STYLE he gets from simple chords". SM praises from me -and the inventor !
Love this song. Was watching Classic VH1 today and they played a slightly slower version of this tune done by SM showing alot of photos from his entire career. It doesn't look like it's here in YT yet. Wonder who was the race car annoucer at the end and if it was taken from actual broadcast?
Stand back, dietician Stand back, television Stand back, politician Stand back, mortician Oh, we got to get away Living in the U.S.A. Come on baby, Owwww I see a yellow man, a brown man A white man, a red man Lookin' for Uncle Sam To give you a helpin' hand But everybody's kickin' sand Even politicians We're living in a plastic land Somebody give me a hand, yeah
Yeah! "Somebody get me a Cheeseburger" love that line! and believe it or not, when I was overseas I heard another American tell me..I wish I could have a Cheeseburger..Yeah! Only in the U.S.A..................!!!!!!
this is easily the best steve miller song i've ever heard, and i'd never heard it on the radio before the other day. i'm not a huge fan in general, he's ok to me, but this song is awesome
I was 16-17 when this was out- great sound- there's another I loved -might be on the same album- It's an instrumental , with jazz/blues tones- had a fog horn in it , I think at the beginning and end---- like at the SF bay...Anyone know the name?
This is a fabulous piece of American Blue Eyed soul. The boys know how to rock & soul. I am going to start playing this out at my Northern Soul night in th UK called "THERE WAS A TIME". Check out the website therewasatime.co.uk and our videos on You Tube. On the Sailor album there is a track called My Friend. Anyone know if it was released on 7" single? Cheers
Love This Song!!! Our Band Use To Play This Way Back Then! Noticed The Building With The Grand Machinery Exchange - Machine Tools Sign. I Own Buck's Precision Machine Tools In Alabama
@smeghead1851 Yeahhhh!!!! If you crank it way up at the end, you can hear the Drag Race announcer say: "He's pulling way ahead in the Howards Cams Special" Aaanndd...He takes it! Lefty Muddersbach on the street side (of the track)...This was indeed a real race probably run at the legendary Lions Dragstrip, or perhaps Irwinadale Raceway in SoCal. Lefty did indeed drive the "blown" twin engined Howards Cams Special, but later died in a race crash in the late 1960s.
Love this song. Have the Anthology album and got to meet Steve and get his autograph. Then they had a mini concert with Eddie Money, Steve Miller and the Eagles. Got backstage passes from a roadie with Steve Miller. Got to sit onstage! Yeah, cheesburgers!
I love this fucking song it makes me want to get up and get a fucking cheeseburger yeeeeaaaah. I was about twenty when this song came out and loved it where has life gone those were the good days and the music was great.
this song is about how terrible it is to live in the USA?

@london2z the hall of fame is bullshit itself, they see the record sales of an artist and not his talent.
