Often narcissists like to wear clothing that defines who they want to portray. My ex, who only had a high school education, was proud that he worked at Fed-Ex. 95% of the time I was with him and when he was not at work, he would wear Fed-Ex knit shirts, etc.
Moreover, when they want to imploy pity from you, they like to "wear the part."
It is a misconception that narcissists dress beautifully...often they are not..it depends on the "image" they try to protray...for example , a narcissist can think he/she is perfect and thus do not need to cover up any imperfections..or let's say he thinks he is a handsome tennis player....he would dress in such way and that would be enough for them . As long as the grandiose image are fulfulled. They do not cover up imperfection and we see them as having no shame.

They just try to convince susceptible fools to buy into their crap, to not be their number 1. How else would society convince people to lay down their lives impersonal "causes" and abstractions and bust their balls to find some unreal idealised "romantic love". Narcissism is natural.
Have you ever met one? They can be fucking evil and thats not exaggerating. Sure, it is natural to be a bit narcissistic. But to a narcissist, it's all about them. They are a fucking god and if you don't agree with them, you dont exist. They will in some cases do all they can to make your life hell.
@zlass55 I am one and I'm nothing like what you've just described nor what hare claims for that matter. It's not so much if you dont agree with them you dont exist, that's an error. It's more of noone else matters to them as much as they do to themslves...to put it simply narcissists mind their own buisness;they are in themselves. The problem are others who are starved for attention & affection,so PERCIEVE that the Nar. think they dont exist as a result of peoples' needing validation of worth.
@zlass55 I had a girlfriend like that and she is that and she left me with quite a bad psyche. I would say that I am caring about myself but I don't hurt people in the process.
@edwardtang1977 Very well said.....I believe that since narcissism thrives off of fantasy (of unlimited fame, beauty, power, intelligence etc....) there would be no need for it to transition into reality. As for the ones who DO in fact try and stop at nothing to breach that fantasy....then there is a term for that as well: Anti-Social Personality Disorder (status hungry women, corrupt politicians). It seems that the only difference between narcissists, and sociopaths is merely their ambitions
