  • 3:02.... alan with horse ears!!!

  • I'm sorry, but David is adorably flustered with bashfulness after hearing his answer was perfect at the 7:31 mark. They totally crushin'.

  • @3:03 Alan has horse ears lol

  • Yes, all Canadian police ride around on horses..

I'm surprised Stephen didn't say "Well of course they have more than just mounted police."

There are just regular old cops in cop cars and paddywagons and such. In my town, there are RCMP trucks and rez police trucks (Reserve cops) as well. But yes, we do have regular old police forces, as well as mounted police.

  • @310BPM /watch?v=s-tHretusUU

  • Conan O'Brien as a guest on QI. Well, sort of...

  • To be fair, at around 2:04 Stephen says "Well, I dunno" when David asks if the Canadians have no unmounted police.

  • @PointsofData To be even more fair, I think David asks that with the subtext being, 'obviously they must.'

  • is Rich Hall wearing a Late Night w/ Conan shirt?

  • With Stephen and David, I've always found it impossible to tell whether they are flirting or just impressed to hell and back by each other.

  • Oh that's just so silly, David!

  • Jimmy is a dick :)

  • As a bonified pervert (see what I did there?) I whole-heartedly agree with Jimmy in saying that would be a great job to have.

  • disabled access is a dalek conspiracy... LOL

  • What? The French are known to serve/eat dishes in portions.

  • Aww teachers pet David :) <3

  • "died in?" "a terrible house fire!"

  • does a drive through count as french service then?

  • jimmy carr bombs pretty hard in ths one

  • Pfff. David Mitchell, Who cares about you being cool?

You're smart and interesting. Hannah Montana is considered "cool" so the standard of that is like comparing an iPad with fashion victims (the latter being above only nematode worms in the grand scheme of things)

  • I love this show but wow were they wrong about all the Canadian Police officers being mounties...and no I don't think they meant it as a joke, I think they were truly misinformed. It now makes me wonder if they've gotten other things wrong.

  • @doubledouble55

    Are you serious?

  • @JJJMMM1 Yes.

  • Oh man, Mitchell's on fire.

  • rich doesnt say much but when he does its VERY funny

  • At 3:06 , Alan has horse ears.

    Quite intersting, right? haha :P

  • David Mitchell should be a regular like Alan!

  • i freaking love rich hall

  • I am Canadians. The Mountees are hilarious. They are comedians. They made some jokes. Deal with it.

  • @apavaloaec Problem is, QI is a show about debunking common assumptions that aren't true - for instance, that the Mounties wear the red uniforms on duty. Or that all Canadian police are RCMP. It's a shame when a show of this calibre spreads misinformation.

  • @puckerings They've been wrong tons of times though. But they're usually pretty good at correcting themselves a few episodes later when someone points it out.

  • Oh, I just love this episode so much! The police part was absolutely hilarious :D

  • At that oyster question I would have said: "You can teach them not to walk after the walrus and the carpenter."

  • This is one of the better line-ups they've had! :)

  • "Jimmy, are you saying that disabled access is a dalek conspiracy?!?" lol! XD

  • David Mitchell and Jimmy Carr <3 Love their banter!

  • The RCMP are the Canadian equivilant of the FBI. They're Federal, and then each province has their own police for as well. For example, Ontario has the OPP - the Ontario Provincial Police. The red uniforms are only dress uniforms, and the horses are only for ceremonies. Otherwise they drive squad cars like the rest of the world.

Slightly disappointed Stephen didn't know this.

  • @Gilari come off it, he doesnt know the policing arrangement in every random country!

  • @Shanniquitie He's on a show that claims veracity and takes delight in tripping up contestants with nitty gritty details. Accuracy is demanded of him. He SHOULD know, or not say anything. That's what the show is ABOUT.

  • @Gilari write in, and they'll do corrections if anyone got points based on it.

  • alan's horse ears around 3:00 are brilliant

  • Hahaha I loved the Teacher's Pet Fanfare!

  • heres a turnip

  • as a Canadian, I feel like I should be a bit miffed that they don't know about our police force, but I'm just gratified that someone's been talking about Canada at all, really...

  • David Mitchell is ALWAYS Stephen's teachers pet. He's mine too :D

  • @herooftheday100 I know! It gives me such joy to see Stephen being so pleased with David. :]

  • Daleks can fly or at the very least kinda hover. They need no wheelchairramps to kill. But the idea is awesome :D

  • @IcEye89 They hover since the seventies and can fly through space rather nicely, as newer episodes have shown. Makes you wonder why they still rumble around on the ground instead of just zooming through the air and exterminate stuff from above. Maybe it's just very power intensive for them to do and drains their reserves faster. I would have thought that their actual flight only works flawlessly in zero gravity, but some were also flying perpetually inside the Crucible in "Journey's End".

  • @KingLofiOne I think they mostly rumble along, as you so nicely put it, because they look pretty ridiculous whilst flying. Like a washing machine on a hoverboard. No one deserves ridiculous archenemies.

  • @IcEye89 Yet still they have a plunger and and an egg whisk for arms. A life-sucking plunger and the most deadly egg whisk off all time, but still^^ Frankly, to me they look like tanks crossed with slugs in wheelchairs. On the good side: One tends to forget their ridiculous appearance because they are nigh-indestructable now.

  • Policed by insects...theoretically yes!

  • Always delighted to see David Mitchell fans.... ^_^

  • This is the best show in the english speaking world right now.

  • GET. OUT!

Hahaha Stephen Fry is my idol :')

  • heres a turnip!

  • "gaydar"!!! hahahala!! lalalalolololololol!

  • 3:03 alan looks like satan

  • Hooray for the Canadians being just as overly sensitive as the Americans!

  • I really wish all those Canadian people commenting would chill out. I'm french, as far as I know three quarters of everything they say about France is bollocks but it's funny so I laugh. And they speak about France at least once every two episodes if not more so really we would have more reasons to cry. Jeez.

And Jimmy Carr is not a prick, he's awesome :D Nothing is to be taken seriously on QI, why are people so uptight? c___c

  • @Wizlyy you make me have more faith in the entire country of France- thank you Sir or Madam.

  • David Mitchell is in fine form in this episode. And his smile is adorable. ^-^

  • Looking at some of these comments from Canadians it seems like that they don't have a sense of humour. They're not making fun, just joking.

  • David Mitchell should succeed Stephen Fry as host whenever Stephen decides to step down ;)

  • Hee. When Alan is talking about his great uncle he has little horse ears.

  • Love how Stephen says "Get out!" at 9:51!

  • whenever someone says "Jimmy, are you saying..." he always says yes, lol

  • That's why we love him. ^_^

  • "Do you say that you think disabled access is a Dalek conspiracy?"

  • "Yes"

  • i'm canadian and i don't think what they said is that bad, its not like stephen fry said that all cops are on horses, in fact he says he doesn't know. It was just a good joke and everyone ran with it, but they never said that all cops are on horses as a fact

  • Jimmy Carr and David Mitchell are fantastic together in this episode... Darlek Conspiracy!

  • Sigh, the only error made in this show up to date (that I'm aware of) is about Canada. Of course, who else would they screw up with.

  • Mitchell's on fire in this one :)

  • the info on the RCMP was quite wrong. the OPP (ontario provincial police) are not part of the RCMP, the (i think they are called) NPF (Native Police Force) is not part of the RCMP neither are the provincial or territorial police forces for any other part of the country. really the RCMP are mostly for decoration (sorry if you are one) and they are not always on horses either! (thats not even mentioning the police in the towns and cities.)

  • "I wouldn't mind doing that..."

rofl, the fact it sounded like he was caught midway through a sentence made me crack the fuck up. but jimmy really is so pervy as to mean precisely what he said, lol.

  • It is "staggering," isn't it?

  • Why did Jimmy ask Stephen if a fruit machine was one of his friends? That's just mean

  • @lennic95 grow a pair

  • @southsydney Of balls? I've already got a different kind of pair

  • I guess I knew EVERYTHING about the plethysmograph and the female photoplethysmograph...though, studying human sexuality @ college...maybe I know too much =)

  • 2:36 I want this to become a new Doctor Who episode.

  • wow. Perfect Answer by David Mitchell. Stephen is getting so excited near the end!

  • Also a Canadian.... sooo painful. Although, the line about us being policed by insects was funny.

  • I'm in love with David Mitchell

  • David and Jimmy should do more together!

  • escoffier was 88 when he died

  • mention of buzzcocks on QI?! life is complete.

  • The RCMP are the federal police. So no, Stephen, not all Canadian police are mounties. There are still provincial and municipal police.

  • Their lack of knowledge about Canada makes me laugh.

  • I'd expect that kind of ignorance from Americans, not the British.

  • @patrick112590 Me too. Canada is such a nice country and I really don't see any reason for making fun of it except for the music.

  • @patrick112590 as an American, I can tell you that we actually know about the Canadian police here:

They ride around on horses if they're federal, and on Zambonis if they aren't.

  • Haha they make it seem like Mounties are in those red outfits all the time! I kind of wish they were instead of those boring blue pants blue shirts blue hats thing they got going on.

  • I think they use the 'fruit machine' for pedofiles these days. To check if they in fact are pedofiles

  • Actually, David asks Stephen if all Mounties are on horseback and he replies "I don't know".

  • qi have got things wrong in the past, so write and tell them... they don't mind. Definetly the best quiz show on tv

  • And of course, not all Mounties use horses. Very few do, in fact. There is still a ceremonial aspect, and in some rural areas maybe, but they mostly drive around in cars same as any other cop.

  • OH GOD THE DALIKS ARE BACK?!?!

  • has anyone said anything about 'Escoffiay' yet? (forgive spelling i just went with phonetic) but in Australia(and possibly elsewhere), the word 'scoff' is used to describe a rapid eating practice. if you 'scoff' something, you eat it very quickly. I find it odd that this bloke has 'scoff' in his name....anyone?

  • 'scoff' is just the Ozzie way of saying "scarf", to eat greedily or hastily. It has no connection to Auguste Escoffier.

  • Yes -- "scoff" was an established slang term before Escoffier was born. In the same way that "crap" was already an established slang term before Thomas Crapper was born. Neither person's name had particular significance.

  • 3:03

    Alan has 4 ears :D

    He suddenly became much cuter.

  • That cockring thing that Stephen was talking about testing for testing, I remember reading a study that was cited on a wikipedia article about homophobia. The study got a whole load of straight guys, half of whom were homophobic. They were all shown gay porn and 50% of the homophobes got aroused by it but none of the non-homophobes.

  • ouch. my Canadiana cringes.

  • the whole mounted police thing is completely wrong, if your a police officeer in canada it doesnt make you art of the RCMP. the RCMP is federal and looks after the entire nation, but every city big enough has its own police force. cities not big enough to have a police force are looked after by the RCMP. If there is a crime in a major city, it will be looked after by the police from that city.

sorry that bugged me (as you can tell im canadian)

  • I'm also Canadian, and trust me, I cringed at the info they were giving as well. Almost made me want to write in. Who does the research? sheesh.

  • aaaand. I logged in as the wrong user.

  • WE FOUND YOU! 0.0

  • @isab3113 I would write in - QI accept they get things wrong sometimes, and they're always happy to correct it

  • is it incorrect?

  • @isab3113 The British really are as ignorant about Canada as Americans, aren't they? :P

  • oh, thank you for saying that. I can't believe Sir Stephen could be so very very wrong about the Mounties!! Now I tearfully have to question everything he swears is true.

  • @NewAgeEagles I really cringed when Alan said his great uncle was in the "Vancouver Canadian Mounted Police". Ouch.

  • @NewAgeEagles Can we blame you for the single dislike, then?

  • @NewAgeEagles thank you for explaining, so I didn't have to lol. Also, most RCMP use cars. The horses are mostly for special events like parades.

  • @NewAgeEagles lol, it's hilarious that david mitchell asks stephen, "so there are no canadian unmounted police?" and stephen actually struggles with the answer!

  • @NewAgeEagles When did they say all of them are?? They made a joke about the way Stephen made it sound, but they never said what you are saying, or went into as much detail as you have.

Have you read too far into the comedians trying to make people laugh??

  • @TheGaz1988 at exactly 1:58 when he says "if your a policeman in Canada, you're a member of the Canadian mounted police".... which didn't sounds like he was joking to me. this show isn't JUST about making people laugh. its about informing people, and getting the facts right. If stephen heard someone try and pass a fallacy off as fact, he would correct them, which is what i was doing. i was not "reading in too far", i was correcting.

  • @NewAgeEagles Very helpful. Thank you. :)

  • David Mitchell + Stephen Fry = awesomeness

  • Nice to see that even the British make fun of Canada. Traitors. :P

  • but we MUCH prefer canadians to asshole americans :P
