  • ey wer is deutsch

  • BEST THING EVER! I WANNA MAKE ONE

  • THEY SEE ME ROLLING, THEY HATING.

  • kurwa też zrobię coś takiego

  • So, instead of a car, you drive a cart to work.

  • Cool rig! Thanks for sharing. Hoping to find pictues of the actual CART.

  • Next Version: Schmidt couplings on the drive wheels with suspension (start with passive and then maybe we can move into active suspension. I've been wanting to try some linear actuator design anyway), Signal lights, horn, rollbar, and a standardized "accessories" connector for "things" ;-). I'll give you the batteries, but I only have a 760Wh worth. Maybe we can get some more through Yet-Ming.

  • @ruhtranortep

Or we can con the media lab into sponsoring SUPER LOLRIOKART which is infinitely better.

  • How do you get the groceries inside.

  • how fast does it go??? whats the range???

  • @Floridaboy7777

I found an article for this in Popular Science and I think it said somewhere around 30-35 mph tops or something like that. Pretty damn fast for a shopping cart, anyway.

  • Why the heck do some people just walk by and act as if they can't see it? Is this some sort of magical kart which only some people can see?

  • Yeah, there was a leaf on the front of the vehicle, so nobody could see me.

  • Because this sort of random-ass shit is pretty common at MIT.

I never attended myself, but I love the campus. :D

  • If was wondering if you could put two rocket launchers both side on funny shopping cart.

  • @scarymarket lol - that would be a "jackass" moment !

  • I should make one of these.

  • He is smart enough to build a motorized shopping cart yet we cannot build a half decent camera mount.

  • he built the camera mount :P

  • je je muy bueno

  • you must make this an instructable

  • My F*ck*n' Dream!

  • my god that is the coolest thing i have ever seen!!! i have subscribed and will follow your videos for the next 40 years, how fast can that go? and how long will it run on a single charge?

  • cool zeit

  • What does the red button do? I'm dying to know :P

  • Main power on/off.

  • Aaahhhhh. That makes sense! So no key-locked ignition? What if you need to park it somewhere unattended? Or would a bike lock suffice? :P

  • Battery disconnect (not the same thing as power on/off) is on a separate, keyed switch.

  • Seriously, Please please tell me the red button shoots an oil slick or fires the nitro or ejects the driver.

But seriously, all joking aside, this actually makes a whole lot of sense. The shopping cart is the perfect vehicle. It is time-tested as the premier load-carrying platform for high foot-traffic, urban areas. It's perfectly suited indoors, up and down the grocery store isles, as well as to be taken outdoors throughout the parking lot/streets. this makes 10x more sense than the Segway.

  • Maybe it shoots turtle shells.

  • How many mushrooms does it take to run this thing? How many coins does it cost?

  • Dude get some suspension on that sucker

  • Next version.

  • hey how much would it cost for me a non mit student to get one of those with turning signals cuz i would love to have one it looks sooooo sweet and it can go the right speed for public streets

  • very cool

  • perfect for those quick shopping trips :)

  • What happens when you press the big red button? lol E-break or Hyper speed?

  • Awesome!

  • How fast does it go and how long can you go without a charge?

  • Unlike what the interblags have repeated, it's currently geared for 35mph, and I can get maybe 30 due to the condition of the batteries. The 45mph is a previous gearing that I ditched because it was that much more suicidal.

The total trip in this video was about 6 miles. I guess probably another 2 or 3 remained.

  • おいらも乗りたいお。(^ω^)

  • THIS is fantastic. Watching it while listening to some remixes of themes from F-Zero make it even better.

  • AS awesome as it is, I think that'd be scary as hell to go that fast in.

  • haha, against the red lights :)

  • Zomg, press the red button! :) btw how fast where u going?

  • cha ;DDD good, wery good, i want it ;D 72km/h in the shop ;DDD abou how much i can buy it? ;D

  • you're a genius. true genius

  • Cool! But is it lawful to drive home-made electric go-karts like that around American streets? Reminds me of Britain's Sinclair C5 about 25 years ago...

  • Is it possible to do anything in today's pampered society without offending someone or breaking a law? No. So just stop worrying about it and go do it.

  • You should have had a helmet though. Did you get some dirty looks from people on the street?

  • He doesn't need a helmet. He's using his knees as crumple zones. They will absorb the impact energy and save his skull. :) Besides, everyone under 21 is immortal...unless they're not. :)

  • I wasn't worrying, just wondering! You should record some 0-30 mph (or maybe 0-40 mph!) times as you make mods...

  • Oh, trust me. This version is just stuff that kept me from being bored after classes. I'm pondering the redesign as we speak.

  • any shocks?

  • first time i have seen a cart turn into a kart lol

  • Very nice. Crazy.......but, very nice. :)

  • great video and looks fun but you lose smarts points for having no safety helmet, tut tut

  • there were no cops ??

  • So you need the police to remind you that you are not made of steel and hospital bills can put you in debt for years ??

  • I'm not?

    *presses magnet to self*

    Oh snap!

  • what is the red button on the front for?

    mushroom boosts? ejecting?

  • This kart is subsidized by the MIT or by yourself?

Because I can't imagine that MIT susidize proyects like this! xD amazing, but my universitity does not allow it...I'm jelous! haha

  • The project is primarily begged, scrounged, hacked, or custom built. Hardware and small parts were purchased. It was not funded or subsidized.

  • I thought so...xD In this case it has even more value! congratulations! you must be pride of your kart isn't it?

    Sorry for my "English" haha

  • It's cool that it works, but otherwise it's nothing radical or cutting-edge.

    (that's waiting for the rebuild.)

  • Why are the american streets so crapy?

  • Argentina's are lot worser

  • boston and cambridge are extra bad.

  • Characteristic of many northern US streets. Very cold and wet winters means water tends to freeze in the road, which expands it and causes cracks.

  • I Want. BADLY.

How long does it go on a single charge? I assume it's electric...

And also, is that seriously street legal? Nobody really seemed to notice! XD

  • All the running around in the video added up to be around 6 miles. I would guess I had another 2 or 3 left.

  • Are there breaks on that thing? I get the distinctive feeling that as soon as they got it to move, they filmed this.

  • no doubt~ 5star

  • Haha, where is West Campus in your tour? I would have loved to see to you zip by!

  • Swing by Miracle of Science and pick me up a Ronnie Burger!

  • I NEED IT !!!!!!!!!!!

  • you look like you really made that shopping cart go there...what speeds are you reaching...any idea of accelleration rates...

have been watching all your videos...congrats..
