nice video. out of curiosity why was the altitude at 40,000? was there turbulence in the 30s or by default 787 and/or ANA just likes to operate at high cruising altitude?
thats an awsome looking engine. How does the HUGE "vapor" trails, come out the tail section? I look with binoc's and can clearly SEE it coming out the tail section, I'm just curious about the phenominon. I understand all the "contrail" dynamics, commercial airlines don't spray, because the scheduals are random. It's military, but its even in china. The world is being juiced, WHY?
Oh my! Look at the wing! It really is different even in that perspective. And the window, it sure is wide enough for better filming! You don't have to poke your camera to the window just to have a nice view like most of the planes. This is the first in 10 vehicles I gotta ride before I die. Mate, don't you know how lucky you are? You know that?
Only flying at 446mph thats so slow. I thought planes normally fly at over 500 miles per hour. Is it because the alititute the plane is at is too high so it can't fly fast or is there other reasons like saving fuel??????
@zszs100 Well it depends from many things. If you are having strong wind coming from direction you are flying to it can drop your ground speed a lot as winds are much stronger up there than on the ground. And yes usually highest airspeed you can fly is not most economical one.
@zszs100 that's ground speed being displayed the speed relative to the ground, thats how fast you WOULD be going at sea level but down there you dont have 100 MPH headwinds the plane is still flying at 500+MPH
@ben7k Thank you. You made me want to fly on a 787 now, because the A330 was also strong on takeoff for me and had a silent cruise. Do you know when Qatar receive their 787s?
@EmadIV Sorry I have no idea about 787 deliveries. Hopefully Boeing irons out the issues and they live up to their promises on long haul flights. Otherwise it just an expensive 767...
@ben7k You also heard about it? That the 757 is more fuel efficient on short-hauls? I hope these issues are dealt with soon, because since the flight was as you described it, I'll like the 787 a lot.
What I find interesting is that due to the large wing / wingspan, the 787 doesn't have to go "rocket-nose up" (steep pitch) like a 757 does, in order to climb extraordinarily well. This is something I've noted over the years, and you see it in some turboprops as well: the pitch may be relatively flat, but due to relatively long wings, the aircraft climbs well all the same.
Oh yeah almost forgot, hear that high pitch noise on takeoff. Does anyone know what it is? I don't think it is an engine sound?
On my return trip to Tokyo, there was a different high pitch whine coming from the engines, I was sitting towards the front fo the wing this time, and it drove me crazy for a while, like a bad case of tinitis.
@ben7k I'm not sure if I'm correct, but this sound (ends at 2:15) it might be a gear hydraulic, when pilots put the gear lever in the middle position - this sound stopped. I'm just guessing : )
The video is cool. I finally happy to see normal wing view take off. The flexing wing is awesome : ))
@13BigLu13 I watched your video and heard the sound you are talking about. I think your's is just the engines. I'm sure it's not a problem for the 787 either ;-)
@ben7k Hi, I believe, since it is more of a electrical architecture, it produces some high-pitched sounds. Kinda like the sound u would find in hybrid cars
@ben7k I hear the highpitch as well... Did you sit in the same seat the other trip ? Highfrequencies resonate differently in every part of the cabin... But yea i heard it just stopped that noise. Weird...
@DanielKandiTV Yeah I sat in a different seat on the way back, over the wing, where it was more noticable at the time. I didn't notice/hear it on the outward flight until watching this video.
@ben7k I'm no expert nor do I know much but it could be to do with the engines at full throttle, maybe the whining noise ceased once they decreased the throttle. For example, the noise of an MD-81/2/etc taking is like a accelerating and decelerating whine/hum (sounds amazing!). But yeah, that's my idea. Anybody else?
@ben7k It is actual engine sound... Behind the wing most of you hear is just wind coming from engines blowing, but in front of engine you hear more of sound that comes from engine itself and some of it can be heard behind the wing too.
@ben7k Its a starter motor. What it does is that it forces compressed air into the middle of the jet engine to start the rotation of the blades. It shuts off once they are moving fast enough to keep spinning.
@KevinKevKev2 Yeah true, given it was a short domestic flight there would not have been much in the way of fuel , freight or luggage. It appeared that most passengers were "salary men" travelling with hand luggage. It was every bit the same as a typical rocketship 757/767 takeoff.
@jessecruzu ah, ok, I thought the 787 was replacing both... but the 737-900 is smaller than the 757...
The 737-900 can have 180 passengers in a 2-class configuration or 215 passengers in a single-class layout... the 757-200 can have 200 (two-class) or 234 (one-class)... the 757-300 can have 243 (two-class) or 289 (one-class).
@cdpakl Yeah it's great isn't it, that curve is really iconic of the 787. I didn't even look at the temp, didn't realise it was that cold! We had quite a strong headwind too, all that cold air coming from Siberia!
Congratulations man, you're one of the first (if not the first) to upload an actual takeoff from inside the plane. Now tell us, how did the flight and the environment inside the plane feel? Any remarkable facts during the flight?
@JohnsonPBX Thanks. Well what can I say, after all the years we've been waiting, and all the cabin shots that have been around for the last few months the interior was no secret. The mood lighting does look really cool, not that it was used to it's full potential on such a short flight. The higher air pressure inside does make a difference with regards to ear discomfort, I usually need to hold my nose and blow, on the 787 all I had to do was swallow about 2 times.
@JohnsonPBX The other thing I should note is, yes the engines are very quiet. Much like the A380 (given they are both derivitives of the same engine..) As you can see from the video, the take off was straight up, like a good 767/757 takeoff. Things might be different at the start of a long haul flight. It was exciting watching the wing on take off, watching the "bow"/bend develop as the wing created lift.
The 787 is really quiet on takeoff!!!!

Hey, I have questions I'd like you answer.
-Is it strong on takeoff, like the 757? Do you feel like it's a rocket? Being pressed firmly back on to the seat?
-Was that high-pitched noise (most probably the hydraulic system) loud? Did it feel loud at any part of the two flights?
-How quiet was it during cruise? We all know that the A330 has the quietest cabin during cruise.
Thanks!
EmadIV 2 months ago
@EmadIV Answers to your questions.
-Was a pretty strong takeoff. Would def compare to a 757 or lightly loaded 767.
-High pitch noise not that loud, just a bit annoying.
-Was very quiet, like an A380.
