the way interpreted it is that the government got him to assassinate his handlers just to make the project even more secret. His suicide was when he was of no longer use.
Damn probably the most disturbing death that David Cronenberg has ever did. getting shot by a tumor weapon and then agonizing on the floor, waiting to explode like a baloon from a fast apce cancer EEEEWWWWWW.
I could never understand what the flying fuck was happening in this movie, mostly because what happens in the hallucinations would manifest in reality...or so it looked like, or I thought. IDK, I had to watch Donnie Darko like 3 times, and talk to my sis who LOVES it, to understand the ending. (sighs) I'll unlock your mysteries yet velodrome...maybe I just need to, OH A PIECE OF CANDY !!
Is anyone else researching Videodrome? I think Youtube is a good community to begin a Videodrome research foundation. My goals are to make a hide able or apparent audio/video neural programing signal capable of acting as a hypnotic hallucinogenic mutagen. If your interested in offering expertise in this field please send me a message through Youtube.
I'm so lost right now....what is the new flesh. Don't ask me why i only found out this was a title of this movie and the last time i saw it was a couple years ago
@nightmare623 The movie is a hallucination, Max pulls out a cancerous gun. Because Cronenberg likes to involve disease and body horror in his movies. It switches from real to hallucination after Max watches Videodrome for the fist time.
@nightmare623 his hand isn't actually mutated nor the gun. That is him hallucinating from his brain tumor. He does actually shoot the man dead. But the mutation in his hand and all the tumors coming out of the guy he shoots are all in his head.
Videodrome is one of the most original movies I have ever seen. It's provocative, surreal and yet very realistic. Even as a kid, when I would be playing a video game and the screen was paused, there was some eerie, creepy feeling that something really scary would pop up after a while, or the wierd feeling that something bizarre was wriggling around in the nooks and crannies of its programming.
Videodrome perfectly exploits and represents this fear of the unknown regarding technology.
@Kemonokami Imagine if one of those hopping cyclops heads (called a "mono draw") came out of the NES game Faxanadu?! Or what if it was one of those flying squids? Or one of those gargoyle things with no legs?!
'Videodrome' has all kinds of inspirado to offer. Maybe I should do a video of me drawing some writhing clown guts or clown tumors with clown heads! XD
@Skillside it became a cancerous gun, that shoots out cancer. Watch eXistenZ to see another gun made out of flesh and bones that shoot out teeth for bullets, another Cronenberg movie.
@2010thekingofkings it is kinda sorta like the ring. people watch a video tape and it induces a brain tumor that triggers hallucinations. but theres so much more too. very intelligent. highly recommend.
@TheInerHollow Please ...this is not a piece of shit. It's obviously your first approach to art cinema. My suggestion...be quiet, watch and give yourself a chance to learn how to appreciate it.
Wow. Do not eat while watching the last four minutes of this clip. Those things popping out of that guy when he was STILL STRUGGLING made me so sick...
so at some point the hallucination becomes real, doesn't it? for people to be screaming at their hands. unless, they are actually holding guns, but it makes no snes.
Haha I remember when I was 8 and I was looking for a cartoon my mum had taped for me, and I came across this the tape had been turned of at 2:35 so I watched just that bit scared the life outta me.
My dad actually did that when I was about ten or so when I kept sneaking out of bed to watch TV. Believe you me I avoided the living room like the plague for a year or so after that.
The Convention was being held in Pittsburgh, but the sign on the boat says "Toronto Harbour Commissioners"
So something odd is going on spatially. I do not think this is an error on Croenburgs part, because the camera stops on the sign for long enough for you to read it. So the discrepency is intentional...but why?
Yeah, the old special effects are so much better than cgi. They are physical props that are crafted well and definitely more realistic. cgi licks balls
Maybe the best gory moment of David Cronenberg's career. It's very gory, but it looks brilliant and beautiful. Kudos to Rick Baker for designing such a horrifically bloody visual feast!! :D
that was some sick shit, and i loved it haha, that 80s feel in horror cinema is something we will never get back i dont think, the older "outdated" effects (which i prefer, i hate cgi f/x), the music, the sets.. classic stuff really
Agreed! I mean sure one of the reason used for CGI is cause it costs less, but I say before CG, these effects were state of the art and really showcased the director's & SFX departments real talent.
Totally agree - in this case the work of Rick Baker, who won an oscar for his make-up and transformation effects for An American Werewolf in London in the same year. Sadly, CGI is putting some real FX legends out of business.
Ya, CGI stuff is cheap and looks slick, but old school make-up, gore and prosthetics are way more realistic, gross and gritty. A well used effect like this can make up for 10 crappy CGI shots. This stuff is costly and labour intensive to make, so filmmakers have to really think out what they want to do ahead of time. All this planning makes for a more impactful scene.
@HaroldPlatypus Depends on the shot really, a lot of the time CGI is more expensive. Just look at the scene from Escape from New York where he flies through the city and the computer displays a green skeleton of the buildings. Sure you could blow all your money to render New York City in black and green, or you could do what they did and spend $200 on glow in the dark tape, put it on a model of the city, and turn off the lights. The only reason CGI is popular is because it's easy not cheap.
