  • Excellent! It's a genuine pleasure to listen to you play. Good. Good. Good.

  • Impresionante con el tenor, regards

  • Absolutely intoxicating! Just excellent.

  • Your playing remind me of Stan Getz...And obviously, both are extremely nice!!

    Compliments!

  • mmmmmm great interpretation

    just learning this one myself!

  • beautiful instrument!

  • so good.

  • Fantastic! Show....very good.

  • Can't find a better rendition of this song on youtube. Really really excellent.

  • Love your playing... it is some of the best on the tube. I love to play along with you, as I pratice. What is a good clip on mic for a tenor? Thanks CDD and keep em coming.

  • silky smooth.

  • Very nice playing.

  • Slow and sultry are some of my favourite things. I could listen to this all day! With the mic's, is there much difference between the 2? Over here the SM57 (on sale) us 1/3 the price of the NT2a

  • Hi YaniT991, the sm57 is quite bright and thin sounding compared to the rode. It depends what you want it for.... for playing out then the 57 is a great choice (although I now use a tom mic, an akg D22, better for tenor) for recording at home (assuming you have phantom power) then get a condensor like the NT1a.... you don't need to go for the 2a, I rarely switch patterns now. Good luck

  • WOW~ Extraordinary! Great work, great interpretation! Smooth, full of feeling, sensitivity and rhythm. Simply WOW!

    GG

  • very nice i think i may have to play this for one of our jazz band ballads even though we did a few years back on clarinet GO SAX

  • excellent!

  • nice i love blues but hopefully i get as good as u

  • Oh, I just noticed, you have two mic's set up. One high and one low. Please explain ? Thanks !

  • The bottom one is a Rode NT2a and the top is a Shure SM57, just to experiment. I did a video called "how to get good audio and video for youtube" if you look through my vids you will find it, that should help you.

  • Wow! Yes, I too am inspired to practice more. Wish I could get that good a response in the low register. I tried a JJ on alto but like the VanDorens better. The VanDorens on tenor are pretty good too. Anyway, keep it coming man !

  • Wow...Amazing sound. I just ordered a JJHR7* and I hope i can subtone like that

    :)

  • This is an awesome performance. I dream that someday I wil play like that. So here is the deal. When I see videos like this I am inspired to work harder. And when I see encourageing comments like some on here it makes me listen better. Thanks to all

  • Matt...I think I may have been one of your very first listeners right after you signed up here. I remember your first saxophone upload, and all I can say is..."You've Come A Long Way, Baby". You're getting a nice professional sound these days. In the beginning I thought this might be a hobby you were just toying around with, but you've pleasantly surprised me with the amount of dedication and steady effort you've put into it from day one. It's clearly paying off.

This is your best so far...

    CJ

  • Thanks CJ, you have been a great help. It has been lots of work, not always in the right direction. I think I am about 50% there if that, but I am enjoying it no end.

  • Hi Matthew, here's your Yani's new owner...and big fan! Great rendition, you really are mastering the slow, bluesy ballads like a pro!

By the way, JJ HR* is the gift I made to Yani, and he loves it too, they are little beauties!

  • Great sound especially in the low register... I am searching for a new mouthpiece too,my old Jumbo Java T-95 still satisfys me but after hearing you blow on the Jody I think I'll check it out

  • love this tune and your sound. i wish i could play like that. thank you big time for this vid, it reminds me why i started to play. kind regards, alex

  • so matthew...

i often sayed : great .. very good or soo... bud this song ist really top

burning a cd.. an selling it *laugh*

no, but i thing , you must do it

    the old man from germany..

  • Sounds better than most well known musicians. Its two beauties at the same time - beautiful composition, beautifully played. Go on crazydaisydoo, keep the world so happy. A warm hug to you.

  • Great as usual.

  • Very very nice Thanks

  • So beautifull, so full of soul, man i feel you everytime i hear you play... You are my number one, thx for sharing your unique talent...

If you ever come to Denmark you and your family would bee welcome, just tell me when and where :-)

  • Thanks Defem77! I have heard great things about Denmark, especially the jazz scene. Thanks for the kind offer, you never know!

  • Another favorite tune beautifully interpreted. Especially enjoyed the emotional outbursts @0:38 & 2:52, among many others!

This is a melody into which you can really sink your chops - and you CERTAINLY did that here!

    Fantastic interpretation - thanks, Matthew!

  • Thanks stradman, funny about that little blip at 0.38, it is partly the new mouthpiece and the leap up to top E can be tough. There is quite a nice little warble to this piece up high, because my chops are not used to it and I was using a softer reed, difficult to keep stable. It has a keening quality though which suits this tune. Thanks for the comments as usual, much appreciated.

  • Inspiring!

  • why the use of two mic if you don't mind me asking??

  • I had my shure 57 lying around, so I thought why not. My recordings still do not sound how I hear my sax in the room, it misses some brightness. With the shure pointing towards the top of the horn the whole sax is recorded. The sound on a saxophone comes out of the keys, not the bell!

  • Oh, Matthew you are making me REALLY want to get a tenor(as well)...that is gorgeous! Your progress has been awesome.

  • beatiful

  • a sea of sugar

  • Now that's hanuting soft and quiet sound... completely changed my mood! Touching performance, really! Keep it up, I really enjoy listening to you:)

  • Awesome just Awesome.

    Where did crazydaisydoo come from?

  • the name? My daughter is Daisy. The rest is just silly. You cannot change a youtube name.... or I would :-)

  • Hi Matthew! We seem to love the same songs. This is another one of your great "late night jazz club" titles. You must make a CD "jazz for melancholic lovers :-) ...

    The new mpc sounds good.

  • Thanks Ulli, the new mouthpiece is OK but the rails are wider than my reeds so it hurts a bit. It has a bit more brightness and a more expressive bottom end, but the top end is thinner. You can't have it all!!

  • Your sound keeps getting better and better! Bravo!!

  • Sweet..Just sweet Matt.

  • Great Video as always! How long does it take to create a new video?

  • Thanks! setting up 20 minutes, recording the tune 20 minutes (3 or 4 takes) editing the video 20 minutes, posting on youtube 10 minutes. Just over an hour start to finish. It depends on how many instruments, if I do one with 2 saxes and guitar, that can take 2-3 hours! Oh, and don't forget the practicing, could be 5 hours on a tune minimum

  • Are you telling us that not only you play the saxophone tenor, also the guitar and all the instruments that we hear in the video or is it only a playback?

Matt, really youre awesome thank you for share with us this music that high our souls.

  • haha! No not this one, I never play the piano bass or drums, but o some of my stuff I play the alto or sop as well and then a guitar solo. That's what takes the time

  • Very nice, I played it on my chromatic harmonica but faster, the sound of saxophone is so rich!

  • nice stuff you have on your page, I love the harmonica, and it's plaintive sound.

  • Nice.
